He married Nancy Donaughie in Dumfries in 1921 and I was Born In Maxwelltow, Kirkcudbrightshire in 1926.I was an only child.His brother was Leslie Saddington a coal miner of Kelloholm, Scotland. Leslie married Agnes Hanby (I am unsure of the name and spelling).Leslie had a son and two daughters. Mary Saddington married William Illston 4 Oct 1838 at Aylestone, Leiceester. They had John 1840, Richard 1842 and Sarah 1844.William died 1855, Mary 1859. Both had been married before, he = Jane Innocent 1802 in Kibworth and she = Henry Kirk in Leicester 1830.

Joseph Saddington m. Mary Charlotte Pink 1824 London

Looking for information regarding Joseph Saddington who married Mary Charlotte Pink on 17 Apr 1824 at Saint Bartholomew The Great, London.

I have a copy of a letter dated 15th July 1831 written by Mary in Lisbon to her brother Thomas Pink of Woolwich Common, Kent, in which she requests a Saddington death certificate: “I was informed that he died of a decline, in his father’s house two years back”. I had assumed this to be her father-in-law but noticed that there was a burial of a Joseph Saddington aged 23 at Church Brampton, Northamptonshire in 1829, which would tally and could conceivably be her husband.

Mary and Joseph had two children although only George is named in the letter; Joseph was obviously in the Army although I’m not sure at this time as to his regiment or rank.

Any Information would be very much appreciated.

I am seeking information on Arthur Charles Saddington also known as Arthur Taylor who lived in Middlesbrough 1901. He had sons called Garnet, Penrith, Nathan, David and Arthur. Thanks so much for that. I had already found Arabella Saddington born 1715 in Knossington and guessed that she married a John Chamberlain but my John Saddington Chamberlain wasn't born until 1778, so I assume he must be their grandson??? Any more info you may have will be greatly appreciated!
Just a quick query - I am trying to discover who ran the Fox and Hounds in Knossington in the late forties as my Father remembers visiting relatives at the pub as a child but can't remember who the relations were. (We think they were Chamberlains) Not sure where to turn for the info?

What does the "CD" stand for next to Arabella , daughter of William and Eleanor?
John Saddington Chamberlain (b. 1778 Aylestone) was my Gr Grandfather x 4. Anne, William, Henry, Susan and Arabella were his children (all born Aylestone /Knighton)but I have been unable to find out who their mother was.I think your info - 1851 census shows their mother as being "Ann" and more besides I didn't know about! Thanks again so much. Are you related?

Thanks - I am amazed that something came up so quickly, I have only just started researching my family and I am surpised how well it is going.
I am afraid the Saddington name didn't carry on much further down my line as my great grandfather Frank, son of George had 5 daughters - Ella, Muriel, Joan, Barbara and Freda. My father Gordon was given Saddington as his middle name by my Grandmother Muriel.
I have found 9 of George Saddingtons children -George (who I believe died in1898 aged 35), Martha, Mary Ellen, John Thomas, Ann Sophia and Frank. In the 1871 census there was also Elizabeth and Sharlott, as Sharlott didn't show up in the 1891 census I presume she died as she would have only been 12 then.
Frank was born in1881and maried Annie Maude Walters in Birdwell, Barnsley at the Methodist New Connexion Chapel on the 1st of January 1907. He was living in Rotherham at the time. His Father George had died between October and December of the previous year in Leicester.
Do you know whether it wasThomas or John who was the Father of George? How did you manage to find out about them and their parents?
I would like to share as much as I can with you about our Saddington ancestors and to see how our 2 lines fit together, I am still looking into the life of Frank and I haven't even started looking at where all of my grandmothers sisters ended up.

Judging by the 1901 census index, your David and Nathan of Middlebrough are the children of Arthur and Hannah Saddington. The index says that Arthur was 35, born in Stukley, Hunts, and working as a blast furnace labourer. Hannah was 34 and born in Darlington. Other children included Garnet, age 14, Penreth, age 10, and Arthur, age 1. All five children were born in Middlesbrough.

There are also 4 other Saddingtons in the 1901 census, either born or living in Little Stukeley, Hunts. One of these, Agnes, is 32 and could be Arthur's sister. The other three are over 60 and could include Arthur's parents.

My wife, nee Mary Elizabeth ROOKE, is also a descendant of Joseph SADDINGTON and Faith FELLOW, through John SADDINGTON and Mary MARROT, Joseph SADDINGTON and Sarah ORME, Thomas SADDINGTON and Anne HEAFIELD, Edwin SADDINGTON and Selina BRADFORD, Harry Cartledge LAWLEY and Georgina SADDINGTON. Georgina is my wife's greatgrandmother.

I have much information on the descendants of Joseph and Faith, including many living descendants, but no earlier generations. I would like to exchange information with other descendants of Joseph and Faith. Hopefully someone can provide parents for Joseph and Faith.

Last night I found a Joseph Saddington and wife Sarah living in Oswego County, NY in the 1900 U.S. census. This leads me to believe that it was the Joseph with wife Sarah who were the parents of the Emma Saddington in my brother-in-law's family tree. I also found what may be them on two different voyages from England -- one in 1885 that brought Joseph by himself, and one in 1886 that brought Sarah and a number of children (but not Emma who was already married). I'll have to look up the names of those children again and will get back to you on that.

My brother-in-law is the great-grandson of Emma Saddington and James Henry Barritt. According to the 1891 census for James Henry Barritt and his wife Emma Saddington, Emma was born in Cranford approximately 1862.

Just this evening I located two Saddington families in Cranford St John who both had daughters named Emma. One is the family of Joseph Saddington and wife Jane; their other children include Frank, Frederick, Allen, Elenor & John. The other is the family of Joseph Saddington and his wife Sarah; their other children include George and Joseph. The Emma in the household of this second Joseph Saddington is closer in age to the Emma Saddington who married James Henry Barritt in December 1884 in Leicester.

According to another family member, Emma Saddington's parents immigrated to the U.S., probably to upstate New York (perhaps Oswego County but not sure about that). Several of Emma Saddington and James Henry Barritt's children immigrated to the U.S., but as far as I know, James and Emma remained behind in England. They were living at 100 Regent Street in Kettering during the 1891 and 1901 census enumerations.

Is Emma Saddington, wife of James Henry Barritt, among your records?

The index for the 1901 census shows the Iggulden family living in Fulham, London.
Wright 41 Cagdriver/Groom born Surrey
Amy 39 born Surrey
Lillian 14, Sydney 12, Ethel 9, Frederick 7, Henry 3 born Chelsea.

The BDM index shows an Amy Saddington born Mar1862 Qtr. Registered = St.George S. (1d 132)

I cannot find Amy on the 1881 census.
Was she a spinster aged about 24 on the marriage certificate, was her father John deceased or a live when named on the marriage cert. Were any of the witness's named Saddington ?

The IGI shows the following entry;
Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire.
07 Feb 1806
John CS of Joseph & Ann Saddington.
Now I know the area well, Kings Cliffe is very close to the village of Apethorpe, which I don't think has a church of it's own. Could this be the Thorp he gave in the census return. Did John have any children named Joseph, what was his trade.

Joseph Saddington = Ann Leach
Did any of the children have a name {middle name} of Leach.
I have a lot of data of the Saddingtons in Wakerly & Harringworth Northamptonshire only a few miles down the road, also Nth & South Luffenham & Market Overton Rutlandshire, if it helps.

Yes I agree Ann (70) on the 1851 census is John S Chamberlain's widow.
My grandmother was a Saddington, I can trace her families to c1600 in Foxton, Leicestershire. I found the Saddington - Chamberlains at Aylestone when looking at the marriage of one of my (Mary) Saddington ancestors, she married an Illston.
I think your connection with Saddingtons begins with the following marriage.

I am related to the same Saddington families of Leicester, our lines merge with Thomas Saddington & Margaret Hanson who were married in 1794 via their sons Thomas & John.George born c1832 in Leicester married Susan Amelia Robinson 1Mar1856 St. Margarets Leicester.They had over 12 children.I have some data of their children. Hi David, thanks for the reply. My John Saddington was a carpenter. He Married Elizabeth Ruff in Oundle and the records state that he was of the parish. His children were Mark 1827, Harriet 1830, Charles 1832 (my GGGrandfather), Emma 1835, Mary Ann 1837, George 1839, Caroline 1842, Matilda 1847 and Helen 1850. All were born in Oundle. I know that by 1861 he, his wife and some of the children had moved to Battersea, London and he died in Ifield, Sussex in 1883 where he was estate carpenter. I am aware of the Kings Cliffe John Saddington but there also seems to be one born in Market Harborough around the same time as well as others and the census returns have suggested that these are not the right John Saddingtons as they still seem to be around the area later on unlike mine and the children don't match. I'm sure he must be there somewhere. Thanks for your help and ideas, I'll keep plugging away.

Hi, My 3X GGrandfather was John Saddington, a carpenter of Oundle, Northamptonshire. His birth varies with census returns between 1803 and 1811. He married Elizabeth Ruff in 1826. I am struggling to find how he relates to the other Saddingtons of Northamptonshire/Leicestershire as his birth place also differs from Oundle to Thorp and then just Northamptonshire. There seems to be several John Saddingtons in this area all born within about ten years of each other. Any suggsestions or help to tell which one if any he is or who his parents were would be gratefully received.

Hi, my great great grandfather was Charles Saddington who married Ann Vowels nee Long in Margate 1873. He died in 1881 leaving several children Isaac Robert (my great grandfather, Elizabeth, Nelly, Mary, Charles, John. I would love to hear from anyone who can shed some light on his birth date and place. I know it was around 1833 and his father was John who was a carpenter but I cant find him on the 1871 census at all. I have a hunch he might have come from Northamptonshire but can't prove it yet. I am trying to trace the Saddington side of my family and if anybody has any info that may help it would be appreciated.
I have Frank Saddington born 1881 in leicester, married to Annie Maude Walters in Barnsley, Father George born about 1832 in Leicester, mother Susan Amelia (maiden name unknown) born about 1835 Hinckly Leicester, brothers George (died age 35 in 1898), John Tom, sisters Martha, Mary Ellen, Esther and Ann Sophia(Firsby) - all born in Leicester.
