Charles W. Hopson died Nov. 22, 2004, in Cañon City, CO. He was born on June 20, 1933, in Guymon, Okla., to Irvin and Edith (Sade) Hopson. He was raised in Texhoma, Okla., and graduated from Texhoma High School, where he played basketball. Mr. Hopson then moved to Liberal, Kan., and worked for Safeway.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked for 47 years in various Safeway stores in Colorado as a meat cutter. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Union Local 7. He was also a troubleshooter for grocery stores in La Junta, Rocky Ford and Lamar.
Mr. Hopson retired from Safeway 11 years ago, but continued to work at Cañon Market until it closed.
He is survived by his wife, Ireta (Manly) Hopson; children, Bill Harrington, Tammy Miller, Patty Smith, Francis Hopson, and Ervin Hopson; five brothers; one sister; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements were handled by Holt Family Funeral Home.
