I am very interested in your Nancy Safewrite who married William Williams in 1780. We have never found evidence of who William Williams' wife was, except that she was thought to be Nancy Safewrite. I must say that several generations down the line in the Williams family, there are many, men especially, who strongly resemble some of the Safewrites in the pictures on Jennifer Taylor's website.

Can you tell me where you found the record of the Nancy Safewrite and William Williams marriage?

Do you know which Safewrite family Nancy comes from? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am searching for information on the Safewrites of Wythe Co, VA. Unfortunately, I do not know the actual name of my ancestor. I have seen different names that she was called. I can say that she married Benton Price Christley (there are different spelling variations of Christley, family tradition says Krisle was the original spelling and they were from Germany). They were married the late 1890s or early 1900s. I have saw the name Tina Louise associated with her, also Teenie, Tennie, and Leenie. I do not know her parents, what county in Virginia that she was actually from. The things that I can remember being told is that the Safewrites were Dutch and that the original spelling of their name, as they knew it, was Safrid. Also, does any one know how to acquire a Wythe County marriage license. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks for reading this.

Shirley, Sorry for the long delay, you can tell I don't dedicate much time to my ancestry pursuits! I don't have much of anything on Manasseh Pethley Burnett other than he married Mary Ellen Saferite. I do have the following write-up from a "Saferite-Burnett" family history paper I found in my records: "Manasseh Pethley Burnett, a farmer, was born in Clark Township, Montgomery County, Indiana, on October 10, 1844, to William Burnett, Sr. At the time of his birth, his father was nearly 60 years old. Manasseh, whose name is derived from the Bible (the oldest son of Joseph and the brother of Ephraim) was one of 10 children. His mother died when he was very young. On July 25, 1874, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, he married Mary Ellen (Molly) Saferite. At the time of their marriage, he was living in Labette County, Oswego Township, Kansas. He died at the age of 55 on August 2, 1899, and is buried in Cedar Vale Cemetery, in Woodson County, Neosho Falls Township, Kansas, next to his wife." I also have some information on his father, William Burnett, Sr., but not his mother (name unknown). Manasseh was the only child of the 10 with the name Pethley. If I find anything else regarding this I'll let you know. Karen

I looked at your website (it's very good) and didn't see mention of Eli's daughter Mary Ellen (b. 1854 in Plainfield, IN) who I am descended from. My records indicate she married Manasseh Pethley Burnett and their son Otis Reeves Burnett was my grandfather. Do you have any information on this line?

In 1904 Ann Frazier Way wrote in a letter about her grandmother Rebecca Safrite and her siblings: "...one son, John, and the girls were Elizabeth, Katie, Dinah, Amy and Rebecca. Lizzie married Thomas Nilson; Katie married an Edwards; Dinah, William Hodson, a miller; Amy, John H. Hodson; Rebecca, Isaac Frazier." These do not exactly coincide with what is known by others. Of course, given names in the records may not be the same as the names family members use. Can any of you Saferight's shed more light on this? Rebecca was my g-g-g-g-grandmother.
Bill

I am a direct descendent of Eli and Mary
Jane Gibbs Saferight. I have written
documentation by one of Eli's chidren of
all marriages/children of all of Eli's
children. Eli and his brother, Asa, and
sister, Irene, were all born in NC and
then moved to Indiana with their
grandparents -John and Wilhabmetta Saferight-
and their parents -Jesse and Irene Saferight.
You won't find Jesse or Irene in the censuses
because they lived with John prior to 1850 and
after moving to IN died in the 1840s. At that
time John and his wife became guardians of Eli
and his siblings. If you want additional
information, please email me. Thanks

I don't know what pics are around. My mother would have them. I can find out when she returns from New Orleans. The book we have is one that George Willis Saferite wrote about the decendants of Eli Saferite. George was my gr gr grandfather. He began writing this journal in 1910. But he begins it in 1827 with Eli. But I also have Eli's father and some other info now. Have you seen Jennifer Taylors website? She's a Saferite decendant. If you haven't, let me know and I will send you her address. She has some pictures there too.

Have you ever been there?
Both my mother and father came from Iola, KS and
moved to Ventura, CA in 1925. Thanks for your reply
to my query.
