MY GRANDPARENTS CAME TO THIS COUNTRY IN 1912 FROM MESSINA SICILY. THEIR NAMES WERE PAUL VICTORIA SAIJA. MY MOTHER ALWAYS SAID THAT THE SPELLING MUST HAVE BEEN CHANGED SOMEHOW WHEN THEY CAME HERE BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY "J" IN THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE. THEY PRONOUNCED IT (SAYA) AND BECAUSE PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE IT WITH THE J IN IT MY COUSINS CHANGED THE SPELLING TO SAYA. I REMEMBER A WHILE BACK SEEING A DEATH NOTICE IN A BOSTON PAPER OF A LUCY SAIA BUT I DON'T REMEMBER IF IT HAD THE J IN IT, AND YET IT SEEMS IT WAS, BUT I JUST THOUGHT IT ODD BECAUSE MY MOTHERS MAIDEN NAME WAS LUCIA SAIJA AND SHE IS CALLED LUCY. ANY CONNECTION
