My great-grandfather, Agripino Saia, settled in South Boston. I was always told that he and his brothers were originally from Palermo. I also heard that he and a few of his brothers spent some time in Argentina to raise money (doing what, I have no idea) before coming to the US. My family has always pronounced the name "sigh-ah," but I and most of my family memebers don't correct people for pronouncing it "say-ya." Very interesting comments, I had no idea there were so many of us out there. I did spend some time in Palermo and looked up "Saia" in a local phone book... there were over 40 entries.
