Michael Sailers, b. 1758 (PA to NC to GA to TN)

Looking for information on the following Michael Salers/Sailors:

There is a Michael Salers/Sailors on the White co., TN tax list for the years 1813/1817/1818. Before this he lived in Blount co., TN, and was living in Jackson co. TN on the 1820 census, age 45+ (b. 1750's in PA). He lived to be at least 100, as he is listed on the 1850 census and noted as a Rev. war pensioner, age 100.

I think I've correctly identified his pension application (Sailers) which confirms this information, but it is very difficult to read. It says he was born in PA in 1758, enlisted from Burke Co., NC, then moved to GA after the war, then in TN as before stated (also in Missouri, but details were illegible).

I believe he may have been from Wilkes co., GA, as that is where my Phillips family lived. I'm trying to determine if he had a daughter named Elizabeth, b. bet. 1790-1797 in GA, who would have married into my Phillips family.

A Jackson co., TN book says he had a dtr. named Rachel, and his wife was named Louanna Mason. Possible sons living in White co., TN were Frederick & Leonard.

Can anyone tell me anything about this Michael and his children?

Thank you!
Amy.

Hi There,
The name Sailer is one of several spellings all meaning the same and coming from the same place.
It means Rope maker, spelled Sailer probably means Ropes in ships. The spelling of Seiler and Syler both mean Rope Maker. Germany and France is where the name is most common.
My Great Grandfather Leonhardt Sailer came from Wurttenburg, Germany and settled in North Annville, Pa. until 1889 where he eventually moved to Chicago, Il. on the East Side.
He was in the Civil War. He changed the spelling of his name to Leonard Syler either before the Civil War or During. I still have not found out why? Bonnie

Re: Johannes Sailer/Barbara Fuchs

I believe I have found what happened to Johannes Sailer and Barbara Fuchs after their arrival in the US in 1847. In 1850 they appear to be living in Monroe County, Ohio. There is a John Sealer and wife, Barbara, living ther in 1850. Some of the information from the census does not agree to my records - their birthplaces are given as Switzerland and their eldest daughter is named Mary rather than Margaretha. However, other records show that this is most likely the family I am looking for. "Mary" Sailer married a Jacob Kreichbaum in West Virginia in 1867. They lived in Belmont County, Ohio. Her death certifciate gives her birthdate as May 16, 1846 in Germany and her mother as Barbara Fuchs. Margaretha Sailer, daughter of Johannes Sailer and Barbara Fuchs, was also born on May 16, 1846 in Oberlenningen, Württemberg. "Mary" and Margaretha are undboutedly the same person.

John (Johannes) Sailer was in Belmont County, Ohio in 1860. Barbara (Fuchs) Sailer must have died for John has another wife, Mary, and step-children living in his household. Death certificates for her children identify her as Mary (Lowe or Loew) Rock. By 1870, John Sailer was dead and Mary (Lowe or Loew) (Rock) Sailer was living with her children as a widow.

Johannes Sailer/Barbara Fuchs

Johannnes Sailer who was born in 1823 in Oberlennigen, Donaukreis, Württemberg (now in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany). He married my ancestral aunt, Barbara Fuchs. She was born in 1818 in Oberlenningen and was the daughter of Jacob Fuchs and Barbara Diez. Johannes (also called Johann) and Barbara had one child while in Oberlenningen, Margaretha Sailer, born 1846. Johannes, Barbara and Margaretha Sailer immigrated from Württemberg taking the ship, Rascal, from Le Harve, France and landing in New York City on September 1, 1847. I cannot find them after that date. Barbara had brothers in Monroe County, Ohio. One of them was married to Johannes' sister but I see no evidence of their residing in that county. I have tried various spellings in the census records for 1850-1880 without luck. Can someone please provide some assistance?

She married Daniel Nehr Malseed (Born Apr 1829) Married 1852. I am looking any family history on the Sailer side of the family. Louisa Sailer was my great great grandmother and raised my Grandfather William Washinton White (Born Oct 4, 1890) after both of his parent died. Any information would be helpful.
Saylor-Sailer Family, Germany to PA, Web-site

http://home.comcast.net/~kylem86/

The SAYLOR family traces its roots back to
Gemmrigheim, and Ilslfeld,Württemberg, Germany.
The name SAYLOR, originally SAILER, is claimed
to be of occupational origin, meaning "Rope Maker"
in German . However, all the known American
descendents of this SAILER family spell the name
SAYLOR, among the other spellings of the
name are SEILER, SAILOR, and sometimes SEŸLER. Hans SAILER is the earliest known ancestor
of the family. He was born about 1650 in Ilsfeld,
Württemberg, Germany. Hans’s trade was as a Butcher,
which he would pass down to his son Hans Michael SAILER. Hans Michael SAILER, born about 1680 in Ilsfeld,
married Anna Elisabeth RÖSCH in Gemmrigheim, which
appears to be when this branch of the Hans SAILER
family moved to Gemmrigheim. The next significant event in the history of the
SAILER family is when Georg Conrad SAILER and his wife
Maria Catharine SCHOLL immigrated to the United States
in 1831. The family entered through the port of
Philadelphia and settled in Lower Pottsgrove Township,
Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Dear Suzanne:

My name is Marie Sailer Key. Charles and Agnes Sailer were my grandparents. The date of birth you have for Charles must be my great-grandfather who was born in Germany and died in 1947. My grandfather was born in 1866, married Agnes Friel October 3, 1906. Charles and Agnes had fifteen children. My father was Joseph. There were three boys named Charles. Some of the children died in infancy, others as young children and young adults. Joseph (7/30/09), Agnes (1911?), Helen, Frances (2/14/18), Mary(1923?) and Charles(1924) were the children who lived the longest. Mary is the only child remaining today.

I am only just starting to do the research and would appreciate any information you might have and will certainly inform you as I go along. I know Cornelius and Ellen lived across Rosehill Street from my grandparents and there were other Friels in the neighborhood.

This was my grandfather's dad. He worked with his son David in a grocery/meat locker business. David died in a car accident as the history goes. Robert was my grandfather. He passed away in 1986. I am looking for information on John's dad Frederich. I have traced Chris and August's lines but I can't get passed Frederich going backwards.

He lived in Annville pa. and Bellevue Pa. he moved in 1889 to Chicago, Il. He married Catherine Yingst in Pennsylvania. He came from Wurttenberg, Germany. I don't know when , I do know that most of the those that came to the US sought out relatives already here and in most cases went to the towns they were in. Is there a connection here at all. Apparently both were born in Pennsylvania and later moved to Ohio (probably Jackson Co.). I am trying to find out if this John Hutchison is the John Hutchison who was the son of William Hutchison (1757-1825).
You can check out my web page and get back to me if there is any connection? How far back do you go with your Sailer family? There are not many early Sailer's. Mine lived in Mount Holly two hundred years ago. My oldest relative, Samuel Sailer, was born abt 1780 in New Jersey. And I am thinking that his wife might be from the Irick family as one child on his tombstone has John Irick Sailer and is William i. Sailer and a daughter has Mary i. Plummer on hers. There are Irick's and Sailer's married to each other as far back as 1740. I would still like to view your Sailer tree.
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/r/a/Joann-Kranz...

Agnes Friel is the daughter of Ellen Delaney. Ellen Delaney is the daughter of John Delaney and Mary Harbour, who are my great-great grandparents. I have been reconstructing the family of John and Mary for quite awhile.
If this fits your profile, you could double check with the tree I have posted on World Connect in Rootsweb.
