John Salin - South Seas Whaler

Does anyone have a John Salin in their family tree that might have gone whaling to the south seas in the 1820's? John would have left London in 1817 for the South Seas. I am researching south seas whalers for my website:
www.myancestorsstory.com
If you think you might know this John Salin, please let me know.
Thanks!
Juanita

I am also trying to find out any info on the surname Sinisalo, particularly Elias Sinisalo who was my great or great great grandfather ( the lineage isn't clear) All I know is that my grandmother, Bertha Sylvan, was born in Helsinki approx. 1888 and immigrated to chicago about 1912-ish. Thus far, in all my travels around the geneology sites, you're the only one mentioning the name Sinisalo. Per my mother, whose maiden name was karvenen, many Finns who came to the states shortened their names. For example, her last name was changed from Karvenen to Carven though, she's not sure why the 'K' was changed to 'C'. My question is= since you're posting, have you found out any info on the surname of Sinisalo? I would appreciate any leads you might have.
colleen

My mother's maiden name was Salin (pronounced "saw-lean"), and it is a Finnish name. My mother lived in Helsinki, Finland. Originally, the name was Sinisalo, but I do not know why it was changed. If you know that you have Finnish ancestors, please contact me and I may be able to give you some great websites to check.
