Right now I just have my Grandfather's and Grandmother's information. Their name are Florentino Salinas from Sebastian, TX born September 7 1925 and Constancia Hernandez. As I get more information I will post it and see if anyone can help me out.

Re: Salinas Connections in South Texas

I have a few websites that will help you in your research as I am searching for very similar family names (Jose Luis Salinas) and in the same area. First I would suggest you print the IGI Mexico Batch numbers for Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, and Coahuila from the HOGAR de Dallas website. These batch numbers will be extremely helpful when researching the Salinas family on www.familysearch.org and their new pilot search site. Keep in mind that these locations are not the locations found in Mexico today but rather New Spain/Texas locations in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. If you can pinpoint the area with which your family line settled, you will find it easier to locate ancestors in any search utility.
Another site that may be of some use is www.famgen.net/campbell where you can search by state, surname, etcetera. Then of course you may check the cemetery records in Texas at www.cemeteries-of-tx.com.
I hope this helps you in your search and good luck to you!
Michelle Salinas
My husband is Richard Salinas son of Jose B. Salinas and Alicia Castaneda. We are looking for relatives of Jose B. Salinas born 1938 and died June 16, 1980 in Brownwood Texas. Jose had a sister in San Antonio but contact with the Salinas side of the family was lost after the death of Jose. Richard didn't know his grandparents but he believes their names are Catarino and Domitila. Jose and Alicia once lived in Hanford CA before moving to Texas and Richard believes that his grandparents are buried in the Hanford or Kings County area.
Any information would be greatly appreciated

Oh my God - that's so exciting, I've got a cousin! at last! I understand that it's all a bit difficult. I would be happy just to know that she is alive and well because when I couldn't find out any information it was upsetting. I knew that she was married in 1974 to David Mullane but didn't know she was divorced so kept hitting dead ends. You don't know how happy I am, seriously. You've made my day, week, year etc etc.

I know that she lived in Croydon during the 60's and was a student at the time. I know where she lived. If you could verify the name of her first husband and when she married then it would confirm that it is the same person. Betty Jo Salinas was my mother, I was born in 1966 in the Mayday hospital in Croydon, but was adopted shortly afterwards as she was only 15 at the time. I do not want to step on anyones toes and would not want to cause any upset. I am just interested in finding my roots and have been looking for information for some time but keep coming up with dead ends. If you can find out anything then at least I can confirm if it is the same Betty Jo, thank you.

I am not sure if this is the same Betty Jo or not, I would be related on the salinas side if this is the same person. Was she married if so what is her husband's name, because that would verify the information I have. Her father was Jo Salinas and he lived and worked in Croydon. Would she have been in Croydon in the 1960's before she was married.

Hi! My father, who passed away Feb.2008, was Tomas Salinas. His family came to South Texas during the Mexican Revolutionary War of the early 1900's. He was actually born in Mexico because his grandparents and other relatives still lived in Guerrero and his parents would make pligrimages before every child's birth. Alice, Tx is what we consider our hometown. I'm living in Corpus Christi now. Do you live in Texas?
I have worked on my family history on and off since 1995 and I can tell you that it takes a lot of time, money and effort. The cheapest way to go is to do research in your genealogy section of the library and at your nearest Latter Day Saints Family Research Center (usually in a church). That last choice will involve a lot of painstaking eye and neck strain looking through microfiles and xeroxing plus ordering files from Saly Lake City. But at the largest nearest library you may find books, microfilms, newspapers, really all kinds of stuff. The various genealogical societies can be the most help. They usually publish annual journals and books loaded with information. That's when you can start spending beaucoup money. One bookstore on the web that I have made rich is called Borderlands Bookstore. You can also spend a lot of money attending conferences where you will get much interesting information and have many opportunities to buy MORE books. I am right now temporary retired from this sort of research since I'm devoting my full time to the care of my sick mother. The last major thing I did was get DNA genealogy information on both sides of both parents from FamilyTree DNA on the web. You can find my DNA information on the Genealogy of Mexico site that Gary Felix takes care of.
Some prople don't like sharing what information they have worked and paid for and I don't blame them. But if you can find someone like that they can be excellent mentors with invaluable information. I can be contacted by you by e-mail if you want some of that valuable information, no charge-thank you very much.
Your cousin, Orfa

Can you tell me anything about other Bernardos prior to your Dad? Where was your Dad and his ancestors from originally? My Dad's family came from Guerrero (Viejo) in Tamaulipas and prior to that Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon and before that Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

I don't know too much about people in the not too distant past. My father was born in 1920 and I have mostly worked back from there. But the town your dad came from is very near to where mine came from. I could bet they are from the same Salinas family which originated with Don Pedro de Salinas who came to New Spain (aka Mexico) in the 1600's. Most Salinas' from Northeastern Mexico colonial families are part of that clan. What I'd love to figure out is if we are from the same branch.
