Missing Link (Salters/Dawkins Connection)

We are trying to determine how the Salters(Sartor/Sortor)are related to the Dawkins family (Bill and/or Tom). The families are both from Carlise (Union County, SC) formerly know as Fishdam and/or Santuc, etc. Aiken Salters, then termed a mulatto, was my great grandfather and we are unable to determine who his parents were. We do know that he was of mixed descent, probably African American and white, maybe Native American.

Mamie Salters, b. 1890 Daviess County, daughter of Joel Salters and Sarah Trowbridge.

Mamie married John A. Sinclair in Washington, Daviess County in 1903 or 1908 (marriage transcriptions are conflicted).

John Sinclair was the son of James W. Sinclair and Mary Ann Miller of Daviess County, a direct descendant of the George Washington Sinclair/Rachel Sharp line.

Mamie and John were divorced by 1910; John is living home with his family as "widower" and Mamie is back home with her family as "divorced." Joel and Sarah had 10 children, 8 living in 1910 and they had moved to Knox County.

Mamie is also on the 1910 census as having one child born one child living, but this child is not living with her or with John.

Looking for descendants of this Salters family or someone who knows what happened to Mamie and/or her child.

Does anyone have the names Peter Salters and Virginia Garner in their family tree? I have nothing on them but their names. Anything would be a great help. I think they may have been from the Arkansas or Missouri area, but can't even be sure of that.

I have some info about Henry Bankston Salters. He lived in Limestone Co., TX in 1900, in Palo Pinto Co., TX in 1910, in Eastland Co., TX in 1915, in Erath Co., TX in 1920, in Dallas Co., TX in 1930.

He died 8 Feb 1939 in Dallas and was buried in Oakland Cemetery in space 35-21-26.

I am looking for information on Thomas Salters born about 1780. He married Nancy Smith May 19, 1807 in Hardy Co. VA. They had three children, but I only know of John Salters born 1808. I know that your message is almost 3 yrs old but I hope it will be found that you are still looking for info as I am. I am related to Salter or Salters (I've seen both spellings in my research). My grandmother Fannie Loftin/Lawson Kittrell had cousins by the name of John Salter son of Phillip & Ann/Amy Salter, sister Hattie Salter Turner, Susie Salter Bowman. I am seriously looking for more info on the Salter family because my grandmother's mother died when she was a baby possibly at birth and no one in my family knows her name or anything about her. I believe the connection of the Salter family comes from my gmom Fannie's mother. I know for sure that John Salter willed his home in Nashville to my grandmother and she lived there until she died in 1950. Any info you have about TN Salter's or Salters would be greatly appreciated.

You have no idea how happy I was when I saw your post. I almost cried! I never thought I would find any of my family because so many have died and left very little family history.

I just received a call from Grover Salters last night and he gave me his email address. I know he is related to me and your wife just not sure how yet. He has always been around and Hoyt Salters wife Sara gave me his number. He's also interested in researching the Salters. We are planning on exchanging information but I thought I would pass on his email address to you so we can all get together on-line and hopefully fill in some holes.

I also received a email from a Joyce Sherman jws47@alltel.net from the Holman family name forum (where I posted a message). She thinks James Isaac Holman maybe her great-great Grandfather. It is great to find another researcher! I had the other 2 children that you mentioned and I find that I left off Mary Jane Salters, born December 11, 1872, died May 15, 1874 in Weldon Illinois.

You are missing two children for John and Minerva. Lillie Salters b. 2/14/1875 d. 2/26/1875 and Unnamed Salters b. 7/13/1861 d. 7/24/1861. Also I am looking for parents or siblings of John William Salters...have you found any information? I have found out that he lived with a possible Uncle when he was 11 it's in the 1850 Census for Ohio, Champaign Co. and am awaiting more info on that regarding his parents from someone who has his death certificate. I will let you know if anything comes from it.

In doing research of 1880 Upson County Census I have ....
Siou D. Salter age 62; wife Mary J. age 48 with three children; Louisa age 17; Julia age 13; and Ida age 7.....the two next door neighbors to him are James W. age 27 and family...also Thomas C. age 25.... I have them as his two sons but know there were at least two more in 1860. I believe one of these may have been James T. born 8-24-1850???
Does any one know this family???

I found on the 1860 Poor School of Upson County with teacher John Franklin...Siou D. parent with 4 children.
Other Salter parents at that time were Srou D..with 4; Benjamin with 3...James with 2...

Ramona Young, I to am searching for relatives of a Myrtle Salters. She was my great grandmother who was born in Oklahoma on an Indian reservation in 1903. She was Chickasaw or Cherokee Indian. She had only one child, Margaret. They both rest in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. This Myrtle had a sister names Florence and other brothers and sisters that I do not have the names for.

They are Hubert Lesley Terrell (my grandfather), James Terrell, Albert Terrell, Dorothy Terrell, Sara Terrell. That is all I know. Don't know exactly where they are from. I was glad to read your posting. I too am researching the SALTERS Family.

My wife's mother is one of the twins you spoke of ( Blonnie Salters).

Blonnie is widowed and living in Hunstville, Alabama.

I would like very much to exchange information with you and if possible photographs too.
At present I am having difficulties with my home computer and hope to have it repaired soon.

I have several earlier postings here.

As you can see your Grandfather is James Anderson Soulters and
your Grandmother was Evie Minnie Holman-Salters.
He is buried at State Line Cemetery near Tennessee/Alabama State Line.
Evie is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery Huntsville, Al.

This is all new to me and I just found out that my great great grandmother was a Salters and married a Harvin. My greatgrandmothers name was Mary Elizabeth Harvin and they called her Mollie, she married Jacob Levi Holcomb Gentry--he died in April 1939. They lived in Cascilla, MS. I am trying to trace my tree back but when my Father passed away and all that information went with him. So that part of my tree looks more like a stump. All I have are photos with very few names. All but one of my siblings have passed away but my sister Gwendolyn Elaine Salters along with my sisters (who passed away this last years Marjorie Imogene Salters) children would LOVE to find out about our family.

If anyone can help me I SURE would appreciate it. This is what I know.

My Dad had brothers named

I also found a newspaper article about a Aubrey H Salters who was killed by a Ollie Neely who was his father-in-law. The article is from The Pulaski newspaper dated Wednesday October 9, 1968. I'm not sure how this figures in with my tree but I figure it does because my Mom and Dad kept it all these years. And when us kids were growing up I can remember hearing about this.
