Emanuel or Ethel Saults

I have a copy of a family death certificate for my grandfather. His mother's name was Ethel Helen Saults. Daughter of Emanuel Saults and Sarah Cecilia Hill. Ethel was born 19 Apr 1894 in Sidell, Illinois. She married Ray H. Payne at some point. They had two children. Eugene Lavasa Payne and Betty Gene Payne (although Pierce was on her birth certificate). Ethel then married at some point James E. Krug. They had no children. She died 24 Aug. 1963 in Amarillo,Potter, Texas. She is buried in Pampa, Gray, Texas. I know next to nothing other than a few stories. She was a registered nurse. Eugene(my grandfather) was born in Oakwood, Illinois 2 Aug 1921. Betty in 28 but not sure if she was born in Ill or Indiana. Both are buried in Pampa, Texas. Does anyone have any information on this family?

In the 1860 US Census of Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois, there is a Nick Sample (b. 1844 in Ohio) living with a Eve Salts (b. 1814 in KY). I don't know if this helps, but I'd like to know the connection. They lived nearby my ancestor, Stewart Thompson who married Susanna Salts. Susanna's sister, Elizabeth, also married a John Dugan and was living next door. I believe the Thompsons, Salts, and Dugans knew each other in Ohio, married, and moved together to Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois together, probably around 1850-1853. But, I'm looking for more to turn this from a theory to fact.
Steve

The Parents of Susanna Salts

I am having problems researching the parents of Susanna Salts, b. 1815 in Ohio. Supposed parents are William Salts (b. 1803 in Virginia) and Sarah UNKNOWN (b. 1793 in Virginia). She wed in 1837 in Ohio to husband, (I'm sure), Stewart or Steward Thompson (b. 1805 in Ohio).

Problems:
You can see William probably was too young to father Susanna. Also, some family trees list Sarah as being William's sister. Possible, I suppose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Steve Royce

My Eliajh Salts and her Milan were brothers, their parents being William F. Salts and Hannah Reliance Tichenor Salts. Not sure when the Salts originally came to US or from where.

Hope this may help you.
Salts, Saults

The earliest Saults' that I have been able to uncover are: Melvin G. Saults, and Tom Saults(my GGG Grandfather). I do not have their exact dates, although from the ages of their children I can assume that they were born in the early to mid 1800's.
Melvin G Saults was married to Jane Wales. She was born on Jan 5, 1947. They had three children: Nora, b. 3-9-1833; Robert; and Calvin Lawrence, b. 7-4-1879.
Tom Saults married Margaret Alice Flowers( My GGG Grandparents). They also had three children: Alexander E.(my GG Granddfather, b. 1-17-1869; Anna; and Jerome "Joe".
Have you been to the family cemetery in Washington College, Washington County, Tennessee? I live near it, it may have some names or dates that may help you. The name has been spelled many ways, my grandfather's last name was spelled Salts on his birth certificate, although he and his parents went by Saults. Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar.

Allen Salts of Dist. # 17, Campbells (Bowmantown) Washington Co. TN

Allen Salts was born in 1816, believe his parents were Henry Salts and Mary (Braun) Brown. The marriage license that he & Sarah applied for on 31 May 1841 at courthouse in Washington Co. Jonesborough TN showed his name as Salls. Allen Salts and Sarah J Erwin were married on 4 July 1841 by a W. Milburn M.G. Uriel Methodist Church, Jonesborough, TN.
1850 census for Wash. Co. TN list Sarah as 25 years old.
1860 census finds Allen and Sarah living at Dist. #17, Campbells, on Big Limestone Creek, Washington Co. TN. 1870 census finds Allen and Sarah living at Dist. # 17, Cherry Grove, Wash. Co. TN. Allen is found on Poll Tax list
for 1848 in Wash. Co. TN. Allen is on Tax List 1847-49. Allen was listed as a farmer from 1830-1880. In 1870 Allen's real estate was valued at $1,500 and Personal effects at $960. Allen is listed in account book of Bowman Mill. Campbells would become Bowmantown/Ducktown later on. Sarah was a housewife and they had 11 children. One of which was Andrew J. Salts, my grandmother Mary Emma Salts father. Mary Emma married my grandpa William L Smith. Allen and Sarah died in 1880. I assume they were buried in the Bowmantown community or on their farm in
Dist. #17. Looking for data/documents on Allen, his parents and Sarah J. Erwin. Assistance will be appreciated.

G. W. Agnew
Columbus, OH

Parents of Andrew J. Salts of Washington Co. TN

I have begun tracing my mothers line. She was a Smith.
Her parents were William Lewis Smith and Mary Emma
Salts. They were from Greene Co. TN in around the
Rheatown TN area. Mary Emma's father was Andrew J.
Salts (Dob between 1856-63) in Washington Co. TN around the Telford/Leesburg, Jonesborough, TN area. His wife was M. Alice Whitaker of Washington Co. TN. The married in Washington Co. TN on Dec. 03 1885. After marrying they moved to Rheatown, Greene Co. TN. Andrew died June 17, 1917 and is buried in Milburton cemetery in Greene Co. TN. Alice Whitaker died on Jan 11, 1918 and is buried in Milburton cemetery. What I am looking for is Andrew's parents. I believe but have no evidence to the fact that Allen Salts and Sarah Erwin are his parents. They were married on
4 Aug 1841 in Washington Co. TN. However, the Allen
I have pursued also married a Martha J. Gibson in Washington Co. TN on Sept 9, 1873. Allen was born around 1816 and died in 1880 in Washington Co. TN.
Would appreciate any info that may help me find Andrew J. Salts parents, grandparents, etc.

GW Agnew
Columbus, OH
