There are two orgins of the Salyers family one from England and the other from France.
The Salyers of French Extraction had its earliest hom in the southern part of France where generations of them lived for centuries. Authorities claim that the name goes back 2000 years to the time of Julius Caesar, when Salye tribe resisted the conqueror, holding that part of France known as Provence, despite the valor of Caesar's legions. The history of the Salyer family in America began with Benjamin K. Salyer a French Huguenot who emigrated from his native land and settled in or near Charleston, South Carolina, about 1700. In the course of time her became a wealthy planter of South Carolina, having died at Guilford Court House, that colony in 1754. There is some definite information with respect to at least two of his sons who have numerous descendants in Virginia and Kentucky and scattered throuthout the southern and western states. One of these sons, Benjamin Salyer, Jr. born in 1730, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War under General Greene and was wounded during the retreat from Dan River in Virginia. Another son named Zachariah Salyer also had service during the Revolultionary Was and was with Washington at Valley Forge during the winter of 1776-7. Just a little history

Yea, his first names was James, he had several sisters. They did live on the south end of Bethelridge on the left just below a church that sat up the hill. He wrecked a bicycle in front of his house. Rear axle broke and locked the rear wheel. We had been down to Fishing Creek. Do you know where any of them are at? I know that Frtiz had died. Last account I had, Pauline lived in Yosemite. Had a crush on Cynthia many years ago. If you see or hear from any of them, have them e-mail me, thanks Dave.

I am chasing down some branches of the family tree, which includes a Sally Salyers, daughter of Martin Dunn Salyers and Frances Padgett. Sally supposedly married a William Camden in Lincoln County, Kentucky in 1805. I have been unable to find confirmation of this marriage and date. Does anyone ahve any info on them?

I have William camden and his wife listd on the same census page as Martin Dunn and family (and his son Zacariah's family) on the 1820 Federal Census records for Crab Orchard, Licoln County, Kentucky.

My wifes grandmother was Goldie Salyers who married McElroy Estep and they lived in the Portsmouth, Ohio area most of their lives I believe Goldie was born in the late 1800's around 1897. If you have any information on her parents it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Steve

Hello, my mother had an uncle by the name of Earl Salyers
from Kentucky. I have just started looking for our Salyers lineage. If Earl Salyers was related to (my grandfather)nickname: (Boza) Benjamin Salyers m.Virgie Newsome then there would be an connection with our family . I hope this makes sense to you. Please email me at blevens@calis.com . Thank you in advance for any news.
Betty

Thanks again for all the great info on the Salyers. I really don't need a death certificate as they are not a direct line for me, but thanks for the offer. I am actually working on the Carter & Martin family from Caroline Co Va which is the family that Bert Jr. marr into.
Was hoping to find out if he & Cheryl Carter had any children. I guess they got divorced since he remarried in 1996.
Ollie

Do you have any more information on this line as in names of children of Will and Mattie Salyers? As in Llyod Salyers being their son? I know Mattie was my grandfather's (Llyod) mother and my mom (Nancy) said the Cherokee blood came from her father's side. Also, all of my family lives in Holladay and Camden, TN.

Re: Willie McKinley Salyers

I think my grandfather's (Llyod Salyers) mother was named Willie (almost positive, but all my info is in TN and I live in SD not). He had a daughter that died about the age of two that was name Willie Mae. Maybe the "Mae" was a cutesie way of getting the "Mac" of McKinley into the name? Anyway, Lylod was born in the 1920s so my Willie Salyers would have at least been born by 1907 to be of child bearing age in 1920. Hope that helps.

He lived in Westland, MI prior to his passing. Please if you have any information at all I would greatly appreciate it. My email it pamela122277@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance, as this would mean a great deal to me.
