Their children were: Julius, Edith both of whom were born in Germany. Also Otto (G., I believe), Anna, Violet born in Ohio, Edward (Possibly born in Ohio), Albert,Laura, Hilda, Rosa born in Indiana.
I know Anna (Mrs. Anna Kolar), Violet (Mrs. Violet Pellow), Hilda (Mrs.Hilda Reeder), Laura (Mrs. Laura Glidden), and Rosa (Mrs. Rosa Thompson) all lived in Detroit at the time of Alberts' death in 1952.
Albert's brother, Edward, also lived in Detroit Michigan, where he died, May 8, 1929.
Albert was married to Lillian Wright and his second marrieage was to Elizabeth Mandeville.
I'm trying to make a conncection from Edward back.
Salzer, Kassel Germany to Illinois to IA.

Family lore has it that Andrew (Andt?)Salzer fled Germany approx 1889. His brother (name unknown) was perhaps killed also trying to escape the military obligations. Andrew kept much of the family history secret out of fear. It is known that he was born in Kassel 28 Sept 1867.
Any information regarding Salzer of Kassel would be considered a lead! thank you.
Found an error in Edward Salzer's family. The Edward Gotfried Salzer born March 31, 1898 in MO has parents of Stephen Salzer born abt 1861 in Hungary and Paulina born abt 1867 in Hungary. Their children are Alma, born abt 1890 in MO; Herbert, born abt Sep 1891 in MO; and Minnie born May 1895 in MO. The 1900 Census finds this family in Cuyahoga, OH with Paulina's father Frederick Fassenger, born Jul, 1842 in Hungary. Edward went to Canada for a while and was an optician.

According to the 1900 Census there were 11 children of Edward Salzer(born 1853 in Germany) and Paulina of which there are 10 of 11 children listed. The Edward Gotfreid Salzer(brother to Julius, Edith, Otto, Anna,Violet, Albert, Laura, Hulda and Rose) born in 1898 had four children born in Ohio three of which are listed on the 1930 Census and his last known child was born in Sep. 1937. There are quite a few Edward Salzer's, but the one you and I have traced are the right family.

I went to the library yesterday to check on your Gustave Salzer. The ages were totally off, and I realized that we're not related.

I believe that my Gustave was from an island (Frisian?) near the German-Danish border. His wife, Emma, was born in Wisconsin. I don't know where they met but by 1880 they were living in Iowa.

Good luck in your research.

--Jacqui

Hi, I am doing research on a Gustave & Emma Salzer from Clinton, Iowa. I don't believe that Emma's maiden name was Schmiek. I believe her name was Kademann or Hartmann. Gustave was born in Germany around March 1854, and emigrated to the US in 1870. Emma was born in Wisconsin around Nov. 1857. Both her parents were born in Germany. They had 8 children.

Please confirm if this is or is not a relative of yours. Thanks.

Dear Sonya--

I am searching for Salzers from Wuerttemburg, Germany. My Great-Great grandmother was Christina Salzer. She married John Glasbrenner. They emigrated sometime before 1859. She lived in Norwich, Montville, Connecticut area and died there in 1915. She was born in 1831. There were relatives in Peace Dale, Washington Rhode Island and some ties to Salzers near Albany. Anything you can suggest would be appreciated.

Sonya, I believe I have a version of that tree. Samuel's wife was Besla/Bertha, and he had four children, Jacob, Maier, Mrs. Soloman Reis, and Mrs. Rosenstein. I hope this is the same as yours. Query: my version is quite old; I think it dates from the 60s. Is yours fairly recent?

Samuel and Besla were my 3g-grandparents. I am related to them through their son Jacob, and through his son, Edward. How are you related?

Regards,
Brian

The family moved to Los Angeles around 1910.

Hugh went on to pioneer the Chiropractic profession and left for St. Louis. He developed the "Logan Basic" method and founded a College with his son, Vinton. Hugh & Wilhemina divorced. She later remarried someone named Fredricksen.
Hi Tina,

I'm so happy to hear from you. These message boards are wonderful for conncecting people.

I live in Encino and have only recently begun to research family history. But I do have quite a bit of information which I will gladly share.

Last night I spoke to Rick Kucera who is another cousin of ours. By checking the other messages that you posted I knew you must be Margaret Logan Hall's granddaughter but I was worried that you weren't checking your email.

Let me explain (briefly) our connection to Rick Kucera.

Gustave Salzer emigrated from Germany to the US in 1870. He married Emma Hartmann and they lived in Clinton Iowa and had 9 children: Wilhemina, George, Lillian,Herbert, etc. Wilhemina married Hugh Logan (from Clinton) and they had Vinton, Margaret, Wilfred & Harold, my grandfather.

Here's the connection to Rick Kucera (who lives in San Diego). His grandfather was George Salzer--younger brother to Wilhemina!

Rick and I are going to meet when I go down to San Diego in a couple of weeks. It turns out he has lots of photos of our ancestors.

I look forward to meeting you.
Believe it or not, you are the second person to reply to me giving me the same information. Actually, there were two Gustave and Emma Salzers. My Gustave was born to Joseph and Anna Salzer who were born in Germany, but who immigrated before the birth of their son Gustave. They moved to Washington State, (while it was still a territory), and that is where Gustave married Emma Shimek, and lived out the rest of his life.
It is so hard to believe that there could be two Gustave and Emma Salzers. I'm not sure if there is some relation distantly between these two or not. Do you know the name of the village in Germany that your Gustave came from?
