I am trying to locate information on my greatgrandfather, Andrew Jackson Sammons. He supposedly came to this country from Dublin, Ireland, in 1840, apparently took a Commanche Indian as a wife sometime after that, served the Confederacy during the War of Northern Agression, having been wounded several times, worked for the railroads, acquired land south of Lawn(?), Texas, in the NW central portion of Texas near Abilene under the Texas Homestead Act around 1845-46. Approximately 600+ acres were acquired where he is rumored to have raised cattle & cotton. His children were: Paul Rinon (Rincon?) Sammons, my grandfather, Dave Sammons, Jack Sammons, who was a Texas Range from 1902-1920, Charles, James?, Irene, Violet, & Emma. Three of the children, including my grandfather, were rumored to have been from the Commanche woman, but which three has never been determined. Apparently, during Andrew Jakcson Sammons' tour of duty in the Confederacy, his Commanche "wife" rejoined her tribe, but no one seems to know her name. Thereafter, Andrew Jackson Sammons apparently remarried one Mary Elizabeth Henderson (possibly Hickerson). Dave's son, Paul Elmer Sammons, nickname of Rip, married Clara (last name unknown) in Sandia, TX. They had two sons, Kenneth & Neiland. I am trying to fill in the blanks in the family history on my Dad's side. The census is no help, and I cannot locate any mention in the Civil War muster or pension roles, although Andrew may have been serving under an alias or may have somehow escaped being included in either muster or census roles. I am attempting to verify the native american side of my ancestry, also, and hope that someone may have some additional knowledge of this side of the family. Hope you can help. Thank you,
