Hi Kristen, thanks for your reply, I am going to England next month and am catching up with the Sammons side of the family. We are having lunch with Bertha Sammons Grandson and he is going to handover copies of anything he has to do with the family so we may solve the mystery. Bertha had 2 grandsons twin boys and John Sammons Flynn was my husbands father.
If I find out anything that may help you I will be in contact. Kind regards Trish Flynn

Trish,

I hate to say I don't know but I have yet to get back to the ancestor that we are certain came over from Europe but it is unlikely we have like ancestors given the dates you listed. I have been searching for clues/links to this dead end for almost 5 years and I just keep looking. So far, my hands are still empty. Family lore has it that the family came from England but I just haven't found which one and when/where. My earliest ancestor to date is John David Salmons (Sammons) born in 1805, supposedly in Surry County, NC and died about 1875 in Johnson County, Tn. He had two wives: Nancy Pettijohn and then Elizabeth Shore. I don't find any of the names below in my database so a common ancestor is unlikely. I wish I could help. Kind Regards, Kristen

Hi Kristen, I am researching the Sammon's family who at the time of my Great Grandmother's birth were living in Greenwhich. Bertha Sammons was born in 1882 to a William Sammons and his wife Lavinia, Bertha had 2 brothers Charles and Henry and she went on to marry Charles Cullinane and produced 2 children of her own Mary Ellen and George. Mary Ellen then had twin boys to Maurice John Frederick Flynn they were called Charles (still alive and kicking in the UK) and John Sammons Flynn who died a few years ago. Do you think that your family and mine have ancestors in common? Kind regards Trish

I believe your family is part of the NY Sammons. The parents
of Francis Marion are Jacob T. Sammons abt 1803 and Chloe
Dutton. The query from Lyn was quite a while ago, but I believe her ancestor is Jacob A., the brother of Francis
Marion. At least this may give both of you a place to continue your search.

Are you sure Julia was born in OK. It's hard to imagine how she got up to the No.East from OK. So different.
Anyway, I can't help you with your Mom if the adoption is
secret and the family is not telling you anything. That
would be information that just isn't available. All I can
do is help you with Julia's ancestry and I have all that.
I might suggest that you send for your mother's birth and
death records. That might contain a clue. If you contact
the State Human Resources Dept.of her birth and death for
a small fee they will send you a copy.

I believe the one I sent you is probably the right person.
B'dates can be a year off due to when a census record is
taken. Also, someone might have listed the wrong husband
on my source. Or she may even been married twice. Anyway
if you want to pursure this further. The parents I have listed for her are Lee Franklin Sammons, d. in OK 1971 and
Lydia Belle Bunch. I can trace this family way back to the
1600's.

I do have some information regarding Joseph Sammons, b. 1795 in DE and moved to Louisa Co., IA in the 1840. A lot of the information I have I received from Sue Grable.

Joseph Sammons had twin son Joseph Simons and Myron Sammons b. 25 Apr 1854. Joseph Simons ended up in Union Co., SD and Myron remained in SE IA. We have not bee able to determine why Joseph's last name became Simons and Myron retained the Sammonslast name. Joseph is my gggrandfather on my father's mother's side.

Joseph Sammons has been a brickwall for along time. I would be willing to share what information I do have. If you are familiar with www.mitsawkett.com you can find information from Sue Grable and others regarding Joseph Sammons under Delaware - Moving Out -- To Iowa.

Please feel free to contact me at ronsand@netzero.net
Ron Mackey

Annie,

Our next cleanup is scheduled for March 21st. I will try to find the graves then and take photos. The cemetery is in very bad shape and some of the graves aren't very accessible. If you or anyone you know is interested in what we have organized or coming to help out please let me know. I am trying to find any family of those buried there to let them know what we are doing.

Thanks,
Carly

I'm stuck and can't get past Robert Sammons.

He was born 1818 in Tennessee TN and died abt 1878. His wife's name is Rebecca Wells b. 1824 in Indiana IN. Information we have indicates that she couldn't read or write which might help explain why the census records from 1860 and 1870 list the last name spelling as "SAMMONDS". Robert & Rebecca six children James H. b. 1845, Sarah "Sadie" 1848-1929, Martha E. b. 1850, John Thomas 1853-1924, Mary I 1858, and Eliza J.

Just an update about the Julia Marie Sammons I'm trying to find. I just found out that she and Vernon Clarence Smith divorced, and they had about 5 children, 2 that are positively identified as girls, I have no names or dates of birth for these children. I'm assuming she remarried, though I have no proof. She also mostly went by the name Marie.

I thank you for your time and help, Im new at this and Ive keep coming up with dead ends. My mom was adopted and from what Ive been told there were 2 or 3 kids born to Julia before my mom, but Vernon didnt think my mom was his, and I recently found out that she had an affair with my "adopted" grandfather, or so we think. My mom has since passed, and her adopted family say they dont remember anything, which we think is a lie, but I really would like to find out what happened. Sorry to lay all this on you, but Im at my wits end! My mom was adopted in or around 1944-45, in charleston. Noone here will help me. All i have is few details. Also, vernon and julia got married in Newport RI, not Newport Oh. Thank you again for your time and help

Hello

My grandfather was George Handscomb Sammons and the person you mentioned was his brother and his parents. My grandfather married Doris Phillips and had 2 daughters Joan Revell Sammons and Brenda Handscomb Sammons who both married and have 5 children between them. Joan (now widowed) has Fiona and Alastair. Fiona is now divorced and has 2 children Gareth and Emma. Gareth has a son Oliver. Alastair is married and has no children. Brenda has Simon, Peter (now known as Basil) and Susie who have Barnaby and Hannah, George and Kate, Mollie and Angus.

My grandfather also had other siblings, Ernest born in 1895 West Ham, Frederick born 1901 Great Perry Birmingham, Henry and Nellie (twins) born in West Bromwich.

Unfortunately Ernest (my grandfather's brother) was apparently supposed to have committed suicide in 1955 and Nellie (his mother) just faded away and died in the same year. Very sad.

Nellie and Ernest were married on 4 February 1894 aged 24 and 23 at the Congregational Church Balaam Street Plaistow. James Sammons who was Ernest's father was a carman (which means he probably drove a horse and cart) and was deceased at the time of their wedding. Nellie's father was George William Handscomb who was a coppersmith and still alive at the time of the wedding.

AJ Sammons was born in Tennessee and was the son of William Benjamin Sammons. I have heard only rumors of Indian ancestry, but Mary Elizabeth Henderson Sammons was my great grandmother.
