Claudia,
After reading your last post my heart almost stop. My Grandmother was Selma and they did move to Chicago. My father was named Benno Richard and Susie was his sister. Oma Selma though passed when I was a baby and Opa Richard passed in 1998. As I stated in my first reply I can not locate Susie. I also have a sister. And that deep dark secrut feeling you have about the family, I was hoping you would have been able to help me there. My father and Opa never talked about the family when they were together and never answered any quetions I had growing up. If they did talk about it I never understude what they said becouse they spoke mostly german around each other and I was never around enough to pick it up. But if there is more information you can give that would be great. I am still tring to find Susie becouse I think she holds the answers I am looking for. If I do find her and she give me any thing that might help us both on our quest to research the family I will let you know. If you know anything else then please tell my.

Thank you,
Angela

Angela,
thank you for your reply!
Please excuse my english,I´ve learned english by school long time ago.
Angela,I´m very sure(99%)that your grandfather was the brother of my grandmother Marie Sandau.I know from my mother, that uncle Richard had gone to America(Chicago) during or after the war.He was married to Selma. She was a schoolfriend of my mother.Richard and Marie were born in Litauen.I never heard of any other brothers or sisters. My grandmother died in 1942.I could not get to know her.
Try to find Selma! I spoke to her by telephone years ago.She must still be alive. She has two children, male and female.
Perhaps this can help you.
I myself also hope to get an answer, perhaps you can help me. There is no contact to my whole family during the last years.I think ,there must exist a deep, dark secret.Perhaps you will allow me to ask, later.

Thank you,Claudia

Jean Jacques Sandeau / Jacob Sandoe

Researching the "Sandoe" family of Pennsylvania. My grandfather was Clyde E. Sandoe and he recounted a family story that the surname was once spelled Sandeau and the line was from what was present day Germany. Most of this line of Sandoe's stayed in or near the Lancaster County, Penna area -- my descendancy line, however, decided to move all over the place making them very hard to search.

What we have pieced together so far is the following:
1) First Generation: Jacob Sandoe and Margaret Kimmel -- have him as Jacob Sandeau and Margeurithe Kimmel.

2) Abraham Sandoe and Anna Mary Schultz

3) William B. Sandoe (1815-1890) and Nancy Alvord (1820-1909) -- WB Sandoe was a traveling minister and moved from PA to OH to IN and back again during the mid to late 1800s.

4) George W. Sandoe (1842-1915) and Helen Everhart

5) John W. Sandoe (1869-1918) and Sarah Louise Lutz

6) Clyde Sandoe (1893-1970)

Hi Warren:

Yes...it is my mother-inlaw that was inquiring about her line of Sandau's. She was staying with me for a few weeks and has since moved on, but I can get the information to her. Her name is Irene Sandau, she had married Sam Himour and they had a son named Allan. I was engaged to him at one time and we had a daughter named Nicollette. I would love if you could send me the information for the Family Tree. Thank you so much for your quick response! Yes, they are the Sandau's from Canada. Mostly around Saskatchewan, but spreading out quickly. I look forward to viewing your information. If you could send it to my home at nett@shaw.ca in case it is too large to have on Hotmail. Thank you again!

Donna

Warren, thanks for the responses. It is always good to hear from a Sandau researcher.
I was a contributor to Marie Strippgen's book and have a copy. The German family history was news to me and I appreciate the tip. Family tradition says the name came from Alsace-Lorainne which might fit in with eastward migration patterns. Thanks again, Dave

We are trying to find more info on the Jacob Pastian family in ND. We know there is a Sandau connection between Gottilieb and Mattilda. We are also looking for info on Elizabeth Macahn who was Jacob's birth mother; she dies soon after his birth.

I guess a connection - or at least an easy one - is out. My Sandaus were already in Wisconsin at least as early as the 1870s. And my theory - to date - is that they were German. But the way those borders moved back then, who knows?

Thanks for you time.

-Ken

Email me directly and I will give you what I have so far.
jwaisner@gte.net.
The book also has pictures in it.
