I am a descendant of James Marion Sanders, b. 1827 TN. He is the son of
John W. Sanders, b. <1799> unknown Co. NC, parents b. NC NC, d. after
1880, probably Prentiss, MS and Nancy (Jones) Sanders, b. <1805> TN, parents b. VA VA,, d. TX.
Through Sanders DNA Project testing, we were found to be of Native American origin and classified as haplog group "C".
My brother was the test participant with a distance of one match to a
descendant of Samuel Blake Sanders, b. 1825 TN, d. AR, who is believed
to be the son of Major Sanders.
I am interested in your post that references John Willis Sanders, James M. Sanders and Samuel B. Sanders. These are all similar names in or closely connected to may family.
We have been unable to determine the parents of John W. Sanders b. <1799> NC, but keep being led back to Elias Sanders.
I have discovered information re: a Native American, identified only by Sanders "an Indian", on the 1713 Tax List, Perquimans Co., NC. Also, Perquimans Co., NC information that a Wm. Bundy, according to court records, assigned to Mary Scott all his interests to an Indian named Sanders, April 6, 1680.
Is there a male Sanders in your family that would be willing to
participate in the Sanders DNA Project to determine or eliminate Native American origin? This could settle the discussion of whether Elias Sanders was of Native American heritage.
