Ione Marguerite Jacobson, the daughter of Sever and Emma (Zessin) Sanderson was born on January 22, 1911 at Newman Grove, Nebraska. She was baptized on March 12, 1911 and confirmed on May 10, 1925 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE. Ione graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1928, she then attended Wayne State College in 1930 and Washington State Normal School in 1932. She started teaching at Boone County School District #20.
On May 21, 1938 Ione was united in marriage to Kading Jacobson at Newman Grove, NE. They lived in Newman Grove, Los Angeles, CA, Ingelwood, CA, Culver City, CA, and in 1957 they settled in Albion. Ione taught school at Madison County School District #62 and Boone County School District #35. Until two weeks ago, Ione lived at home with her son Keith. She entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center after suffering a stroke. It was there that she passed away on Friday, May 13, 2005 at 94 years of age.
Ione was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion and the Ladies Aide there. She was also superintendent of the flowers at the Boone County Fair for some 30 years. Ione was a member of the Christian Women, she volunteered at the Albion Senior Center for a few years and volunteered at Albion’s Head Start for 13 years. She was lovingly know as Grandma Ione. She truly loved reading to and working with the children. Ione’s pastime was her flowers, up until a few of years ago she was still showing them at the Boone County Fair.
