My family tree goes as far back as to the birth of Joseph Sanderson in Currituck (or Craven, I can't remember of the top of my head) County, North Carolina, circa 1706. Joseph is a direct ancestor of our Asa Sanderson. I'm not sure how many generations it goes back from Asa to Joseph (maybe like four). I will have to look it up and get back back to you. All I remember right now is that the geneology goes something like this: Joseph Sanderson &gt; Joseph Sanderson II &gt; Joseph Sanderson III &gt; Shadrack &gt; Asa Sanderson &gt; Oscar Percy Sanderson. I have all of their wives and some information about years that I can get for you later. Hope this helps!

Find one in your own state, there should be plenty around. <br><br>Your family is Milltown Cemetery (which is where I have been to and seen your family cemetery plots), which is just near Lough Neagh if I remember rightly. They will also be buried in Tartaraghan church yard and Drumcree church yard. <br><br>I have a list and I will try to find it for you with the burials in Drumcree and anything I have found in Tartaraghan.<br><br>The Milltown ones were definitely yours and if I can find the photos, I will send them too.<br><br>Cheers<br><br>DS

Yes. thank you for the information. Unfortunately, IGI has no irish census records on the website as of yet, so i will try and find a local LDS church ancestry building. we have several in this state. that may be faster than waiting for them to mail me a copy from Utah. I will see how that goes. Is there any way of finding out where my family of Saundersons were buried in Armagh?

Thank you for the info. So far, I believe I have found my family on the 1911 census records. John Saunderson was age 73 in 1911 and married to Martha Saunderson age 60. they were married for 38 years in 1911. total of 8 kids, 7 still living in 1911. 2 still at home; Mary age 37 and Tommy, age 19. They lived in Clonemakate, in the Tartaraghan division in North Armagh. The census just states they were in house number 9 from the census, but gives no address. The 1901 record would give me other kids names to confirm i have the correct return, but this one leaves almost no doubt.

I found a free website "census.nationalarchives.ie" which is working on the 1901 and 1911 census records. they just put all Armagh county 1911 records online, but won't have the 1901 records completed until late 2009, early 2010. I really need the 1901 records because my great grandfather was still living in Ireland at that time. And, i'd be able to find more info on his parents to start tracing backward through the Saundersons in Ireland. Maybe, I will try and find a local Morman organization to do some research on the 1901 irish census. Thanks for the advice. Off to bed now. it's almost 1am here now. gotta go back to work tommorow. Take care. David Earl-U.S.

oh okay. Wasn't sure. I know my great grandfather was very religious. He was diagnosed with Leukemia from exposure to certain mustard gases during the war and died in 1939 from it when his kids were young. He'd be in so much pain and would go into the woods with just his bible and return a couple hours later feeling better. That was my grandmothers account, Laura Sanderson was her name. That faith has traveled down throughh the generations. I'd absolutely love to visit my heritage in Portadown, Ireland. My grandmother tried to go years ago but there was too much violence going on at that time and the family there suggested she wait. Unfortunately, she got cancer and died before ever getting to go back. But, she was very close to Annie Saunderson, who lived on a farm that was in the family in Portadown. I think I have a couple old pictures of her picking apples in front of a big white house on the property.

My great aunt lives in Hinsdale, Massachusetts, USA. her father, James Sanderson moved to Washington, Massachusetts from Ireland in the early 1900's. I flew back there with my family and she filled me in on some things regarding the Saundersons from Northern Ireland, but I'm still looking to find more links. Would you mind e-mailing those photos to me if possible?? I'd love to see them. I found an old photo of a Joseph Saunderson from Ireland in my great aunts photo album. Her name, by the way, is Kathleen "Sis" (Sanderson) Drosehn. She is one of 5 kids that James Sanderson had. Only 2 are still alive. I only have one photo of my great-grandfather, James. It is a World War I photo. He joined and received U.S. citizenship for doing so. His brothers all joined as well, except for David of course. I am very interested to find out how David died. Thanks again for the information. It's great to have met you on here.

Yeah as a matter of fact David was rumored to have gone missing and then found to have been killed either in a accident or earthquake or something. My great aunt told me about it this summer when I visited. I will check out rootsweb. David sanderson came to the u.s. In 1904 with my greatgrandfather James. They were visiting their brother, John James sanderson. Where did you hear the rumor?

Regarding your William born in 1805, John Saunderson on my side was born about 1838. Do you know if your William's son John is the same? the years would match up. I also found another census report with William Saunderson born around 1844. That could be the son of your William born in 1805???? He married a Martha Saunderson and they lived in Loughal, Armagh County with Williams' brother John. both were around 69 years old. maybe this will help in finding a connection. Let me know. thank you. David Earl

Wow. that is very interesting. My great-grandfather left Northern Ireland in 1904 partly because he had been threatened by a priest in the town he lived in and came to the U.S. I am n ot sure if the Saundersons/Sandersons from Northern Ireland on my side are connected to the Sandersons on your side from Canada. Let me know if you have any information on it. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, David Earl.

Thank you so much for the information. I've been desperate to find information on any Saundersons from your area. Thus far, I know that John and Martha Saunderson had about 7 or 8 children. My great grandfather was one of those, James Saunderson--changed his last name to Sanderson when he came to the U.S. from Portadown. I found a census record from Portadown, Clonmakate, Tartaraghan, Northern Ireland. James came to the U.S. with his younger brother, David in 1904. Their older brother, John James Saunderson came over first, in about 1903. I also know of a Thomas and Joseph Saunderson as well as Robert who are all brothers of James and sons of John and Martha. The census report for John Sr has him born in about 1838. Not sure of Martha's maiden name. She was born about 1851. Do any of these names ring a bell? I know there was a cousin of my grandmother named Annie Saunderson who lived in Portadown. She may or may not still be alive. They kept in touch over the years when my grandmother was still alive. She may have been a daughter of Thomas, but I'm not certain. <br> You and I may be distantly related. Would you mind sharing who your parents and grandparents are on the Saunderson side? I'd love to find more information on this. You can respond through this message board or e-mail me at "<a href="mailto://fourearls@gmail.com">fourearls@gmail.com</a>". I live outside of Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A. Thanks again for your help. Sincerely, David Earl.

not sure about the bible. i think that mjy great aunt may have it. i know that my great-granfather, james' grandmother was a jew from romania. unsure of her name, though. i know that there was james, john james (born about 1883), robert (moved to springfield, massachusetts), david (died in accident), joseph (may have stayed in northern ireland and married there), and thomas (may have also stayed in northern ireland), he was younger. their parents were john and martha saunderson. the parents both stayed in portadown or around there, but had come to the u.s. to visit james and robert and possibly john james and then went back home to ireland. probably are both buried there in or near portadown. I think Annie saunderson was thomas' daughter. she kept in touch with my grandmother and great aunt here in the u.s. last i heard, she was in a nursing home in northern ireland. not sure how to get a hold of her if she is still alive. i found david and james on the ellis island records when they came to the u.s. on the celtic ship in may of 1904. that's about all i have so far. i've been looking at the irish census records from 1911 but would have more info to find from the 1901 records, but i think they will not be ready for online viewing until late 2009 or early 2010. does any of this help you? i will keep researching and see what i can find out. i know the saundersons have stayed in or around northern ireland for a long time and probably originated from scotland at some point in the 13 or 1400's.

Yes the Mormons are very good on this sort of thing.<br><br>You just go to the Family History centre, pay a $1 or something very cheap and they order the microfilm from Utah, probably take about a week in your case, and you can go through the film at your local centre. <br><br>You should check out the other stuff as you can find lot of great stuff there.<br><br>Cheers<br><br>DS

Hi<br>Clonmakate is a townland (dot on the map) between Portadown and Lough Neagh. It is not very far from Portadown and people who live there probably consider it part of Portadown. It is typical Irish countryside wtih farms etc, whereas Portadown is a town. I think is is part of Tartaraghan parish, and in the part of the world called the Birtches. I hope this helps. Cheers DS

Dad knows about it somehow, probably told by his Dad or my granny. Dad left Portadown in 1970. Where does your great-aunt live and what is her name. I have pics of Saundersons in Milltown cemetery near Tataraghan that are probably related to you by the way. Cheers DS
