It is most interesting to see the DNA results of Sandifers/Sandefurs/Sanderfer and Sandiford, and it is gratifying to see the DNA project growing.
My ancestor is Peter Sandifer, 1771-1844 MS. So far, two of his descendants have joined the DNA project. Their results show that Peter Sandifer, born 1771, who went from Barnwell, SC > LA, 1812 > Pike, MS, 1820, is not in any way related to Johnson P. Sandifer, who also went from Barnwell, SC to Mississippi, or to John D. Sandifer who went from Barnwell/Orangeburg SC to Mississippi. He is also probably not related to any of the other Sandifers who went from Barnwell, SC > Mississippi around 1820, plus or minus (William Nightingale, Joseph, Joshua, Benjamin and William Yarborough Sandifer), but DNA results from a direct male descendant from their lines are needed to be certain. (My feeling is, their DNA would show them related to Johnson P. and John D. Sandifer.)
This came as a big surprise to me, as I am sure it will to many others. Before these DNA results, I thought all of the Barnwell/Orangeburg, SC > Mississippi Sandifers were related in some way.
It is also interesting to see that Peter Sandifer, 1771-1844 MS, is related to Sandifords of Lancashire, England. WOW! There is a common ancestor back there somewhere. Hope we can find out who he was.
The DNA results show Johnson P. Sandifer of Barnwell > Mississippi is related to Abraham Sandefur who died in Chester County, SC c1810 (many of his descendants use the spelling of Sanderfer), and that Johnson P. Sandifer, John D. Sandifer and Abraham Sandefur are related to Sandifers/Sandefurs of Virginia > Kentucky > westward, and also to Robert Sandefur who went from NC > LA, c1800. All of these men have a common ancestor...maybe only a generation or two back from where their paper trails are stuck.
The DNA results can be seen from the link that follows; the RESULTS page will show the kit numbers and the lineages of the DNA donors, plus lots of interesting info about DNA; the YRESULTS page shows the actual DNA results so far available for the nine members who have submitted DNA samples:

To help break down the brick walls we all have, I hope more Sandifers/Sandefurs/Sandifords/Sanderfers/Sanderfords, etc., will consider joining this DNA project. If you need help to join the project or have questions, please get in touch.
