i am also looking for my grandfather by the name of Emilio Santiago. I dont know much because I never had the chance of meeting him or the family. My mothers memory isnt very good anymore either so I am in a alone search with what I was able to gather.
From the info from my mother. Emilio had married Elizabeth whom past away 3-4 years ago. My uncle, Tony Ramos (best friend of my father) told me she had. The childrens names are as follows:
Emilio, Elizabeth, Elma or Alma, George, Eddie, Goca, Freddie(my father), Hector and possibly 2 others. Again I really dont know how accurate the information is that was given to me. But its a shot Im willing to take. Let me know if these names rings any bells. thanks

I am wondering if you have these names in your family tree? They are my relatives. I found them in the 1920 census for Puerto Rico in Coamo living at 235 Baldoriotti (from what I could decipher on the census). They are: Angela Santiago y Aponte who was born in 1872 and at this time was head of the household. Her daughters were Adelina (my grandmother), Maria, Angelita and one son who did not live at home. My mother, Maria L.Mercado y Aponte (born 1916) is also listed with a sister (I believe) named Aurora Mercado y Aponte (age 1.5)

Adelina told me that her property was called "El Nido" and that her mother owned a white horse named "La Paloma". My grandfather's name was Nicomedes Aponte.

The entire family eventually went to live in Manhattan, New York.

If any of this rings a bell please email me at velhuston@yahoo.com. I do remember that my grandmother was very fond of her Santiago relatives.

Carmen Santiago indicated in a post on this site dated July 8, 2004 that she is searching for Jose Enrique Santiago Espada (born in Coamo). Could this be your grandfather?

My father's oldest brother is also named Jose Santiago Espada. He was born in Coamo on March 25, 1910 and died in 1997. He is the son of Olimpio Santiago and his common-law spouse, Pertonella Espada. This Jose married an woman named "Minita." Other than the fact that he has a surviving sister, Alicia Santiago Simon, this is all the information I have for him (along with his anscestors).

I have family names very similar to those you are searching for although these have mostly all passed away.

My father's oldest brother, Jose Santiago Espada was the son of olimpio Santiago (born in Coamo) and his common-law wife Petronela Espada. Jose married a woman named "Minita."

The big difference in your search is in the ages. This Jose Santiago Espada (Pepe)was born on March 25, 1910 and died in 1997 in PR.

His sister Alicia Santiago Simon is the only living sibling of that generation.

Could your father be related to this Jose?

My husbands name is Angel Luis Santiago. He's 27yo so I doubt he's your father. However, my father in law is also Angel Luis Santiago. I have no idea where in P.R. he lived. He now lives in Lorain Oh. but I don't think that's going to be much help. There are about 30 A.L.S's living here. It's a very popular name. If it helps here's what I did when I tryed to find my father. I went back to the last place he was known. I talked to everyone that may have known him and showed the picture I had. It braught me to his brother who told me quite a bit about him. From there I was able to talk to a few (and when I say a few, I meen way too many) old girlfriends. Within 6mo I found my father. I'm not saying it will take you that short of time but just start asking! From an old job, to neighbors, to anyone, that may know anything about him.
Hope you find him.

Oh, no, I'm sorry. My Father had 15 brothers and sisters in total. My father is a Plumber, he knows how to do just about everything though but I guess there are 2 Angel Luis Santiago out there living almost the same life (as far as there relationship with there children goes). But Cayey sounds so familiar. MY father is so secretive about his past. Do u remember how he looks? I think for the longest time he had a mustache almost like Hulk Hogan. He was also in the Army at one point during Vietnam he says, but only for a little while.

I dont know if he lived in that part of puerto rico back then but I do know that he has another daughter about your age if I'm not mistaken, well he said he might have another daughter, he said he wasn't really sure because the woman might have been pregnant already or something like that but he said he never met the girl. He has a good amount of children here and there. Anyway let me know if your still looking. I can try to send u a picture of him.

Santiagos from San Sebastian PR -- A Greek connection?

Hi,

I am researching my father's side of the family, who originate from Robles in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. My Granfather's name was Lorenzo Santiago, born in 1929 to Nicomedes Santiago and Valentina Serrano. Nicomedes is most certainly a Greek name. His children were:

Confessor
Damaso
Filomena
Nicanor
Esmeralda
Cecilio
Generosa
Etanislao
Salvador
Gregorio
Eleuterio
Diego
Dionisio
Damaso
Agredor
Angelo
Fermin
Pablo
Paula
Sindo
Susana
Lorenzo

Many of these names are of Greek or Latin origin. Nicomedes' father's name was Candido. I cannot trace any further back than that. Is anyone aware of any Greek migration to Puerto Rico and to the San Sebastian or Karst region in general?
