This is from an original paper my great aunt wrote for her 9th grade English class.

Biographical Sketch of My Grandfather, by Evelyn SARGOOD
Nov. 18, 1929

My grandfather SARGOOD was born in Wallingford, England, October 24, 1833. His parent's names were John SARGOOD and Mary.

He spent his childhood days in England and also went to school there.

He came to New York, when he was eighteen years old, August 14, 1851. He came over from England in a sailing vessel. It took him six weeks to reach New York. He was accompanied by his sister.

While in New York, he did cabinet work, which was making bureaus, tables and cupboards.

He came to Sunderland, Vermont, November 21st, 1855. While in Sunderland, he did cabinet work as in New York and lumbered some, as his father owned a wood lot. His father had arrived in this place quite a while before him.

He was married to Emily Harriet BACON, daughter of Ziepha BIRGES and George Washington BACON, May 30th, 1858.

After his marriage, he bought a farm and settled in Sunderland. He worked in a Chisel factory and later in a spoon factory. He was the father of seven children, five girls and two boys.

Grandpa was an honest, good natured man and was well liked by everyone who knew him.

He was sixty-four years old, when he gave up working in the shop, but was able to do his work around the farm.

He sold butter, eggs, milk and fruit from his small orchard.

Grandpa died July 21, 1918 at his homestead in Sunderland, Vermont, seven years after the death of his wife.

The end.
