Thank you for your response to my query. The information you gave me was SO O O much more than I had before...which was only that Walter W. had been adopted by Harry Starr of Douglas County, CO.
Since I do not know his biological parent's names, outside of "SARRE" I'm not sure just where to start looking from here. Perhaps there are more records in the county of adoption. Someone must know who put the young boy up to be adopted.
But thank you VERY much for taking time to reply and give the information you did. If I find some solid names to go on, I may get back with you. I will keep your letter and e-mail address on file.
Thanks again,
Niona Case

Hello Niona,

I have just read your message posted some time ago in reference to the name Sarre. I am a descendent of the Island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It is only twenty miles from the French mainland, but comes under the sovereignty of Great Britain. Guernsey is self ruling with its own States of Guernsey Parliament. The name of Sarre is quite common on Guernsey, and I have several marriages that took place between my family (Torode) and the Sarre family. During the early 1900's many Guernsey families travelled out to the New World to start a better life. My family were some of them and I correspond with their descendents today. The Sarre family also went over, although I do not know exactly when. If you were to check the US Immigration records between 1800 and 1850 I am sure that several of them will appear. I found my Torode family travelling over in 1816 on a ship named Racehorse and landing at Baltimore. They were all stone masons and helped to build Kenyon College in Ohio, before buying land in Elmhurst, Illinois. They were some of the first settlers. If you can trace your ancestry back to Guernsey then I might be able to help you with tracing your roots on the Island, or certainly give you the addresses of people who can help you.
I hope that this information is of some help and wish you the very best of luck with your research.

Many Regards
Brian Torode

SARRE, Walter W., orphaned in 1878, Denver, CO
An adoption indenture, issued by the County Commissioners of Arapahoe and Superintendent of the Poor of the County of Arapahoe, city of Denver, Colorado, on the orphan Walter W. Sarre, and approving his adoption by Harry Starr and Ellen Starr of the City of Denver, County of Arapahoe, State of Colorado, on 6 May AD 1879.
This Walter W. [Sarre] Starr grew up, met and married Lily, and they raised their family in Douglas County in the West Plum creek vicinity.
He was my husband's grandfather, by adoption, and we would like to reconstruct as much of his heritage and background as possible, at this late date.
Information on ascendants/forebearers of course would be appreciated, as well as relationships to Starr relatives, in Colorado or other states.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.
