Sash's of Wayne County, Michigan

Looking for more info on the Sash's that lived in and around Trenton, Wayne, Michigan. The farthest back I go right now is Charles Sash who was born on 23 Sep 1832 in MacHelburg, Germany and emmigrated to the US sometime between 1873-1879. He brought along his wife, Mary and his children, Charles, Anna and Herman Charles. Charles died on 22 Sep 1909 and is buried in Bloomdale Cemetery, Trenton, Wayne, MI. Would love to make the Germany connection and confirm when he arrived in the US. Any info would be greatly appreciated. jeanettestevens@yahoo.com

My husband's family on his mom's side are the Sash's that lived in and around the Trenton, Wayne, Michigan area. Charles Sash was born 23 Sep 1832 in MacHelburg, Germany. He emmigrated to the US sometime between 1873 and 1879 with his wife Mary and his children, Charles, Anna and Herman. This is as far back as I have been able to go.
Sash's in the UK

I live in the north east of england and only a small number of people are called sash say about one in half a million here in the uk including my immediate family.

We all come originally from Poland sashakowsky and shortened to sash in Germany and France and from there to various places around the world.

its great being a sash as everyone remembers your name and you come up on search engines rather than being lost in the mix of all the other surnames...

I am a sash and proud of it?
It is all very interesting.. When I have time I will tell you about a chap from New Jersey (Robert Sidden) who has done a full history of the sash namew and came accross to meet my folks in Hull, England! I missed him as I was in Egypt at the time..

He knew all about my dads father and all kinds of interesting things.. he then went to Alsace to meet with more Sash's hence my statement...

Have you a photo?

It all starts on the Austro-Hungarian Bourder shortly after the Hapsburgs inherited Austria.

The name is very common on both sides of the border. The Hungarian form is Sach with an umloute over the "a".

I think it is related to an order of Knights transfered from Spain to Austria by the Hapsburgs to protect the border with the Turks.

Most Sashs who live in the US are decended from Sashs who emigrated directly from Germany.

Just spotted this on the web.. my name is Phillip Sash I live Yorkshire England age 40yrs..

Hardly any sash's here in the UK.. my understanding is that it all starts in Poland (sashakowski) and was shortened to Sash pre world wars.. The bulk of sash's then settled in Alsace France before spreading into the US. and beyond..

Proud to be a Sash anyone called sash send
me an email

Phillip and Dinah Sash 1850's and 60's Springfield, IL

People with the Sash Surname in the US appear to be decended from a number of independent immigrants primarily directly from Germany.

My surname is Sash and I know my Sash Ancestors in Bureau and Pike Counties in Illinois back to my Great Grandfather Henry Sash who appears to have been orphaned during the Civil War. He lived with a Ham family until he was old enough to work as a farm laborer.

I believe that he is the son of Philip and Dinah Sash who emigrated to Springfield, Illinois from Baden, Germany in the early 1850's. I think Philip Sash was killed in the Civil War in 1864 and is buried in the National Cemetery in Knoxville. I would like to know what happend to Dinah Sash and her child Edward who appear to have disappeared between the 1860 census and 1870 census. I have not be able to find a record of Dinal remarrying,

I will probably have to go to Springfield to attempt to find the death records.
