They lived there, but settled in Northern Kentucky (Bellevue), mostly. Martin's parents were John Martin Sattler and Martha Swope. Elizabeth's parents were Jacob Mueller and Louice Scherer or Schwerr.I cannot find siblings for either of my 2nd gr gps. and am still looking for information on them if these are your Sattlers.
Thank you
Joyce

Re: SATTLER Family in Tadten, Austria

Kyle,

I saw your message to Al and can provide the information you requested (we're cousins and are jointly researching our family). The census info we have indicates Martin Sattler (our gr-gr-grandfather) was born October 1848 in Andau. He married Magdalena Pelzer in ~1874. We have a copy of his army dismissal letter that states he was born in Tarcsa, Hungary (now Andau, Austria). Our gr-grandfather, also named Martin Sattler, was born in ~1877. They arrived in the US in April 1888.

It appears Martin (the senior) and one or more brother's and their family all immigrated at the same time. On the same passenger list the following Sattlers were listed (with ages, when known, in parentheses): Martin (?) and Magdalena (?), our gr-gr-grandparents; Franz (?); Martin (?); Johann (?); Maria (43); Stefan (40); Martin (11), our gr-grandfather; Mattias (7); Theresa (6); and Josef (5).

On the Tischler side, our gr-grandfather was Frank Josef Tischler, born ~1856 and married Eva Baumgardner (spelling varies) in 1885 or 1886. Frank likely immigrated to the US in 1886 and Eva later that year or in 1887. We have not been able to find a link to the specific village but believe it is in the Burgenland area of Austria because of a few references to Hungary as the place of birth in some of the US Census records.

One other item that may be of interest; it appears Frank & Eva returned to Europe/Austria with their family in mid-1890 and came back to the US in May 1899. During their time in Austria, a daughter Frances (or Franceska) was born in ~1897.

My grandfather's name was Michael Frank Tischler, so it is possible there could be a link to the Tadten Tischlers.

Thanks for offering to provide any information you find on either the Sattlers or Tischlers.

Rick Tischler

I am a descendent of Johann Valentine Philipp Sattler b. 18 Jan 1768, Hessen Germany, m. Anna Katherina Hartman, 2 Sep 1799, Germany, d. 4 Jun 1834, Hessen, Germany.
Anna Katherina Hartman b. 1769, Hessen Germany, d. 18 Jun 1834, Hessen, Germany. Five children were born to them.

Continuing my line:
Johann Georg Sattler b. 7 Sep 1799, Hessen, Germany, m. Elisabeth Kempf, 2 Feb 1830, Germany, d. 10 Jan 1870, Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Elizabeth b. 3 Oct 1803, Hessen, Germany, d. 23 Apr 1875, Lafayete, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. 4 children were born to them: Margaret, John, Philipp, and Catherine. John came to America 28 Apr 1851. The rest of the family came 1 Dec 1854.

I have just found where son Philipp was married to a Catherine and they had a son Georg Philipp b. 8 Aug 1857 and baptized 24 Sep 1857 in St. James Lutheran Church, Lafayette, Indiana. According to the census records Georg Philipp was born in Indiana.
In going to the census 1880 I fine Georg Philipp 22 first in Star, Coffey Co., Kansas with a James Harvey family. Mr. Harvey is a carpenter and it says George P. carpenter apprentice.
In 1900 Philipp is married to Eliza A. and has 4 girls and is living in Westphalia, Anderson Co., Kansas and resides there through the 1930 census.
1910 he is living with a daughter, Bessie M. Tomilty and granddaughter Zoe. It says he was married 25 years.
1920 he is again the head of household and has daughter Lavina O'Banyon, granddaughter Wilma O'Banyon and daughter Zoe Sattler living with him.
1930 he is living with daughter Lavina Clamon, granddaughter Wilma Clamon.
I would like to find if I am on the right road with searching form my Philipp Sattler and hope to find the maiden name of his wife and what happened to them. Where there other children? Also, hope to find the maiden name of Georg Philipp's wife and the dates of all of the family.
Re: SATTLER Family in Tadten, Austria

Hi Al,

Sattler appears often in the churchbooks of Tadten and Andau. I have been going through these churchbooks and recording every Sattler entry. It is taking a while as there are just about two Sattler entries per page on the microfilm. I have finished the Tadten film as this is where my side of the Sattler family came after living in Andau. I just started on the Andau film. I will tell you if I find any entries similar to the ones you are looking for.

Do you know who both of the Martin Sattler's were married to and about when they were married? Do you know any brothers or sisters?

So far I have a Martin Sattler born 29 May 1830 in Andau to Johann Sattler & Theresia Weishapel. This was nearly my last transcription as I ran out of time. However, I go back next Tuesday and will look for your Martin Sattler.

Also, I noted that your last name is Tischler. This name appears in the Tadten churchbook also. I am related to an Elisabetha Tischler, daughter of Martin Tischler & Elisabetha Winkler. She married a Matthias Sattler. There are still Tischlers living in Tadten. I have a book called Chronik Tadten (Chronicles of Tadten), given to me by my cousin in Tadten. It includes a 1857 houselist and who lives in these houses today.

The 1857 list includes a Josef Tischler, Matthias Tischler, Elias Tischler, Georg Tischler, Michael Tischler, Martin Tischler and Johann Tischler.

The current day list includes a Gerhard & Anna Tishler and Lorenz & Caroline Tischler.

Maybe you're related to them?

Hope this helps. I will write again once I continue transcribing the Sattler entries in the churchbook.

Greetings,

Kyle Sattler
Milestone, SK, Canada

Sorry it has taken me about a year to respond to your message. My grandfather, Peter Sattler, was born in Weisburg (will check the exact town as I am not using the computer at home) in the southern part of Germany, an area that went back and fourth between Austria and Germany. As a young boy, he was sent to live with & learn to be a druggist. Not to his liking,.at 16 he stowed away for the U.S. Landing in New York, he eventually migrated to Cincinnati. He joined the army and was taught to be a baker. When he left the army, he & a friend took one ticket in the Louisana lottery & won. With his half of the winnings, he opened his own bakery in Madisonville. Does this fit any of the Sattler's info?.

Kyle,

I saw your message about your Sattler connections to Austria and was wondering if there was any connection with my Sattler family there. I have a Martin Sattler born in Burgenland on October 8, 1830 and then his son (my
gr-grandfather) Martin, born in 1878 also in Burgenland. It might be a longshot, but I thought I should try. I am currently living in Prague, and that part of Austria is only a 5-hour drive from here - so I might make a trip there
in the coming months.

Thanks in advance.

Al Tischler

PROBABLY NOT IN THAT GENERATION. IF THERE IS A CONNECTION IT WOULD HAVE TO BE IN THE LATE 1700'S OR EARLIER. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF SATTLERS AROUND DARMSTADT AND AROUND SALZBERG, AND SCATTERED ALL OVER BAVARIA AND EASTERN AUSTRIA. BUT IT NEEDS TO BE MORE SPECIFIC THAN THAT.

My Sattler line came from Baden area of Germany and "Prussia" in the late 1800's. They changed their name to Sadler around 1915. At this time they were living in Cleveland, OH. I say that to say this...that it doesn't sound like there is a connection, does it? Happy hunting; CAK

My mother is Lucille KIMBALL nee SADLER. Her father was adolph SADLER, before ca. 1913, SATTLER, from Cleveland,OH. Adolph's father was Joseph SATTLER. Now, my lineage has descended to meet your Joseph's!!!! I'm very excited because this ties in my G.Grandfather's line and I have been researching this for about 3 years!!. Thank you. You don't know the half of it, but i will just say that I hope you will be able to provide me with more details. Don't tell me you live in or around Moersch? I don't think my heart would stand it!! Glad you were able to help us..... It is 2300 here, I am in Baltimore MD, and my mother is undoubtedly sleeping. I can't wait to phone her tomorrow. Speaking of Baltimore, the SATTLERS imm. to Balto. in 1892.then rode to Cleveland on the train. Did you say joseph had a sister in Cleveland?? Sounds like you have a good command of the English lang. Look forward to hearing from you. Charles Kimball.

Hello,

I am searching for my SATTLER ancestors from Tadten, Austria (Austro-Hungarian Empire). Tadten is called Mosonteteny in Hungarian. The original family immigrated to the area from Germany after the Thirty Years War.

I only know as far back as Franz SATTLER, born January 20, 1858 in Tadten. He married Marie LAZARUS, born May 30, 1863. They had eight children: Franz, Johann, Martin, Andreas, Matthius (my great-great grandfather), Michael, Paul and Herman. Franz died on April 13, 1927 and Marie died on November 2, 1940.

I am still searching to find generations further back.

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Michael,

I am not sure if you got the e-mail that I sent to you so I am posting it on the message board as well:

Hi Michael,

My e-mail is bpsattler@sasktel.net

I live in Milestone, Saskatchewan, Canada. Several of my dad's aunts, uncles, and cousins have been over to Tadten to visit relatives. I believe Matt and Dorothy Sattler had been there several times and I know Elsie Sattler has been to Tadten before. My dad's aunt, Dorothy had drawn up a family tree of all the relatives that she had met in Tadten. I know all of my great grandfather's brothers as well as their children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Unfortunately, it needs to be updated. I am wondering if your family somehow fits into what I have already.

I am the great grandson of Matt Sattler, son of Franz and Marie (Lazarus) Sattler. My grandfather was Frank Sattler.

My dad's cousin, Elsie has talked about getting me in touch with our relatives in Tadten. Maybe this is a start.

Greetings from Canada,

Kyle Sattler
Milestone, SK

Coat of Arms

Does anyone have a copy of the Sattler Coat of Arms or know if there are more than one version. I have seen two different ones and am not sure if one of them is correct or not. A book that I bought some years back (The knew World Book of Sattlers) has a Vulture with spread wings setting on a log and a knights helmet on top, I have also seen the sheild with the Stag on it. Any help would be great as I have two sons that want us to have the Coat of Arms tattooed on us.

Tom Sattler

As his english and his computer skills aren't the best, he asked me to contact you and ask you for your mail-address (the message board in engilsh is too confusing for him) because he may have further information for you.

Michael Sattler
