My GGG Grandfather Abel Ruhl was born in Hesse Barnstadt in 1820 and immigrated in 1832 or 1842. I'm looking for his parents and brothers and sisters. He came to Baltimore and lived there until he died about 1900. He had 7 children and I can only find two names eventhough six were alive in 1900. I'm still looking.

Kevin Ruhl

Wilhelm Alfred Sauer born about 1889 in Germany/Kingdom of Saxony

Yet another Sauer relation stepping up. I don't have a lot of information, but I'm hoping what little I do have might trigger something.

I'm looking for any information on

Wilhelm Alfred Sauer, born about 1889 in Germany/Kingdom of Saxony (Bautzen). His mother's name was Emma, and he is sometimes listed as Alfred Wilhelm.

Family oral history says that he was in the German Navy, and he jumped ship while in port in NYC approximately 1914/1915 to avoid the first war. We know that he married a woman name Marie/Mary, who was born in NYC but had German immigrant parents.

I've found documents showing that the entire family - grown to include my grandmother Elsie Emma and her sister Dora Louise, who were both born in NYC - left Hamburg in Oct 1921 on the SS Mount Clay for NYC. On arrival, he petitioned for naturalization.

Unfortunately, the whole questionable way he entered the country means I have little else to go on, so I am hoping that his name might be on someone else's lists.

Thanks!
-K

I am another Kless relative. My mother's maiden name is Frances Kless. My grandfather was Augustus C KLess. His father was John Kless whose father was Sebastian Kless. Sebastian Kless married Mary Sauers. They arrived from Germany in 1852- settled in Ulster Heights, NY. Sebastian Kless was a brother to Joseph Kless who married Crescentia Sauers. (Mary and Crescentia could have been sisters)
A Joseph Kless arrived in New York from Bremen, Germany on Sept. 16, 1852 on the ship "Charlotte" He was born about 1821 and was 31yrs old. Place of origin listed is Bavaria. A Crescent Sauers was listed above Joseph KLess on the ship list.
I looked for Kless' listed from Bavaria who sailed from Bremen, Germany around 1852. A "Leb Kless was listed. I looked at the ship list and the "L" for Leb Kless was actually a fancy "S". It was Seb. Kless. Seb. short for Sebastian. Also listed was a Maria Kless next to Seb. Kless. Sebastian Kless married Mary (or Maria) Sauers. The sailed from Bremen, Germany. Place of origin also listed as Bavaria. Sebastian and Maria Kless arrived from Germany on August 6, 1852 about 5 weeks before his brother Joseph arrived. Sebastian Kless was listed as being born about 1820. He was a year older than Joseph. They probably were close since they were only a year apart. My mother said that Sebastian Kless was from Germany near Alsace Lorraine region in France. In 1852 the region in western Germany next to Alsace-Lorraine in France was considered part of Bavaria. Sebastian Kless' daughters were noted for their lace making.
Gloria

Can't find a connection nor could I find those names. Do you know what city or county in Illinois?

Here is the line I'm working on-
John Willems & Nancy Lernerts (sp) living in Germany (probably died there. Children-
1) Margarete Willems, came to US 1888, married John Sauers & had 11 children around LaSalle Co, IL.
2) Katherine Willems, born 1870, came to US 1888, married Karl Korstick & then John Klever, living in Streator IL
3) Female Willems, came to US, married Nick Wahl.
4) Female Willems, stayed in Germany
5) Matt Willems, came to US & lived in Mission TX. Had 2 sons- Joe & John.
6) Phillip Willems, came to US & lived in Little Rock, Arkansas. One son John was a politician with a large family.

As expected, some of these people's name converted to WILLIAMS as I find marriage records under that name. Makes it difficult to search for descendants not knowing which spelling they used. Very interested in descendants of Matt & Phillip in TX and AR.

I also have a prayer card that was in my grandmothers' belongings for a Nikolaus Willems, born 1856, married 1882 to Anna Katharina Conrads, died 1928 in Germany. Not sure who this was.

I am also searching for Willems from IL. I don't have much information to go on but if any of these names sound familiar please let me know. Theophil Willems married Irma Hemeryck in the mid 1800's they had at least one daughter Margaret. They lived on the west side of IL. Margaret's married name was Bogaert. She was my mother's mother and died when Mom was only 8 yrs old so I have very little information to go on. After her father remarried she did not see alot of her mother's family.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Teresa

There are a number of towns and villages around Baden-Baden I can't find. My Great Grandfather Adolph Sauer is said to be from "near Baden-Baden". His wife Elizabeth Mayer Sauer is listed as from Bavaria, but likely a town near by.

Our ancestors share the same generation and geographic area. This is hopeful in finding a connection. Sauer is a common name and is sometimes spelled Saur.

Adolph's father, Joesph Sauer, arrived with his name spelled with an "e" so I am not sure it is an anglicized version. I saw Adolph's christening record and his name was also spelled with an "e". I think this might be due to regional or national differences.

Joseph Kless had a son Fred Kless who had a son Ellis Kless. Ellis married Ida Henniger. Ellis Kless was a cousin to my grandfather Augustus kLess. They both were close friends and were automobile mechanics in Ellenville, NY at the Jansen's garage. Later my grandfather owned his own garage in Ellenville on the corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue- the North End Garage. My grandmother Pearl KLess rented a room to Ellis in the 1970s in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ellis died a few years later of bone cancer.

Joseph Kless may have been a brother to Sebastian Kless who came over from Germany in the 1840s. They came from the Alsace Lorrain region of Germany- near the French Border. They were lace makers. Sebastian Kless was married to Mary Sauers and they settled in Ulster Heights, NY. They had 6 children- a son named John and 5 daughters: Barbara, Carrie, Nettie, Katherine, and Anna. 4 of the daughters- Carrie, Nettie, Barbara, and Katherine never married. They lived together across from the St Andrews Church in Ellenville, NY. They made all the lace coverings for the alter and also made communion veils for the children. Anna married Frank Hoff. John married Susan Henniger and they had 4 children: George, Henry, Augustus, and Fred. Augustus Kless was my grandfather.
