Re: Anita Sauls in Orlando?

Are we talking about the same Anita Sauls that was related to George Mayer born 1851 in Dodge County, WI? About 1868, George moved with his parents to Blue Earth County, MN. His parents lived with him in the town of Lincoln until George, Sr. (1804-1880) and Elisabetha (1806-1888) died. He moved his family to Virginia and then he and his wife later moved to Orlando where they both died. I am only trying to find out if anyone might have a death record or photos of George and his family. He is the only one left of the Mayer family that settled in Dodge County that I haven't been able to find information about. I haven't been able to find his son William after the 1920 census. I was born Mayer and have done a lot of research on the Mayer family.

I show Gracie J. Sauls to be born July, 1895 in Wyoming County, West Virginia and died Abt. 1965. She was married to Marion Plogger born abt. 1892 in West Virginia and died Abt. 1960 in West Virginia. There was one son Jack Plogger born abt. 1917.

Cora Lizette Sauls Born 1890 in Georgia

am looking for any further information on the family of Cora Lizette Sauls born in Georgia in 1890. She was married to a John Lorenzo Bylsma in the early 1900's and died sometime around 1927-29 from TB according to family lore. She lived in New Orleans, LA, Jackson, MI, Jacksonville, FL. I have at least tracked down Cora's father to be Elbert L Sauls from the 1900 Federal Census Brunswick City, Glyn Co. Georgia but no info on her mother. So I am hoping someone out there might have some more info on any of these folks mentioned. Thanks

The Sauls Indian Mound that you are referring to was named after my Great Uncle Johnny Sauls who was married to Coma Weir. He inherited the land from a Murhpy I believe because it used to be called Murphy Mound. The mound is in the Pinson Mounds State Park in Pinson TN. I knew my Great Uncle and visted him several times. His brother of course was my Grandaddy Sterling Obediah Sauls. I knew my Grandaddy very very well. He had a tin type picture that I have seen of 2 twin Indian women. I believe he told me that they were Cherokee but he could have said Choctaw. That is about all I know though. He did say that these 2 women were family members and that they were full blooded indians.

There has always been the family rumor that some great-great-grandmother (or further back) married an Indian medicine man. I always assumed it was Cherokee, but who knows? My father was Woodrow Wilson Sauls, b. 1912, Orangeburg, SC. His father was J.C. Sauls, Smoaks, SC. The tracing I have been able to do goes back to two Isaacs (Jr. & Sr.) in the low country of SC near the Combahee River. However, I can't positively connect them to my Orangeburg Sauls because of Sherman's rampage of arson which burned down the courthouse in Walterboro, SC. What genealogical info do you have on the Sauls?

I too have Sauls family members. My grandmother was Irene (Dorothy) Sauls born 1913 TN. My aunts tell me she had indian blood---they believe she was Cherokee. She was married to Nick T. Choate, my grandfather. Irene's father was James A. Sauls. Do these names fit with what you have?

Mrs. Sandra Jarrell Groover, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at the Hampton
Regional Medical Center in Varnville after an extended illness.

Born December 24, 1950 in Hampton, she was the daughter of the late
Rufus Jarrell and Alice Sauls Jarrell.

She had worked for many years at Westinghouse in Hampton.

Sandra is survived by her sister, Linda J. McAlhaney of Varnville.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at the
Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery near Hampton, conducted by Elder Robert
Dobson and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Friends may call at PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME, 300 Mulberry St.,
Hampton, SC 29924 on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 PM and prior to
services on Wednesday.

HISTORY NOTES: James Martin SAULS

James Martin Sauls was known as "Martin".

He was married in West Virginia to Mary Ann Chafins and had two sons
before he married Willie Jane Jarrell. The two sons remained in West
Virginia when Martin & family moved to Florida.

He and his second wife, Willie Jane Jarrell, lived in Matewan, West
Virginia. Martin had lived in Wheeling, WV prior to this.

In his young days, Martin was an advance man for a circus (it may have
been Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show). He went ahead of the circus to
set dates for shows, make arrangements for show grounds, advertising,
etc. In the last year he was with them, he came all the way down to
Florida - then across the country to San Francisco. He left them there
and took a job on a ship headed for London and then on to New York.
He then returned to West Virginia.

After moving with his family to Florida in 1903, he spent his first
year farming and then, until 1914, he worked as a carpenter. From
1914 to 1926, he worked in the Everglades with the State Drainage
Board where they were digging the flood control canals. His final 10
years, he had an automobile repair garage in Tallahassee.

Martin was a member of the Florida National Guard.

I just visited the Lorraine American Cemetery in St Avold, France and found a WWII vet named John Sauls, who died in combat in 1944 and is buried in the Normany Ameican Cemetery in France.
I am researching a genealogical connection to my grandfater, Sylvester Sauls, SSG, WWII vet of the famed Red Ball Express, service number,34673277, from Wilson, NC - (b) May 1918 - (d) August 1983 in newark, NJ. He married a Mattie Best (Sauls) and had (2 sons-Sylvester and Ed Lee, my father) and he remarried Mamie Hilliard (Sauls). His mother's name was Minnie Sauls (the father's name is what I don't have) but she re-married a Mr. Edwards (Wilson, North Carolina and the surrounding areas, Black Creek, NC). Mrs. Irving Magee Dies

Mrs. Irving Magee, after a long life of more than four score of years, died Thursday , March 24, 1926. The funeral was observed at Mt. Moriah Church yesterday morning at eleven o'clock, Rev. J. A. Taylor, of Brookhaven Baptist Church officiating in the presence of a large congregation of friends and relatives. Mrs. Magee, although at 85 years of age was still counted as an active member of Mt. Moriah, whose history was made in her lifetime.
Mrs. Magee was the widow of the lamented Irving Magee, one of the best citizens Lincoln County has known. Five sons are left to mourn the loss of "Mother"; they are J. P. Magee, of Denton Texas: J. I. Magee, Hazlehurst; Edward Magee, New Orleans; C. F. Magee; Ackerman , Miss.; (this is Quitman, the thank you article listed him as C. Q.) M. C. Magee, Cleveland, Ohio. A sister, Mrs. Russell of Monticello, and Ike Sauls of Fulton and B. N. Sauls of McComb, two brothers, also survive.
Mrs. Magee had outlived her generation and felt the loneliness and decreptitude that came, at last, despite her fine philosophy and Christian fortitude. Like many, old saints who now " immortal reign" she fought the good fight of faith and was a heroine, although living quitely at the old homestead. Her arms became empty; but her heart was always filled with love for her boys and girls and pride in them.
May her rest be sweet, and may the influence of loyal, steadfast life last throughout all time.

James Sauls b1877 TN and Edna (Watson?) Sauls b1879 TN are my ggrandparents. Irene Sauls b1913 is my grandmother. Irene married Nick T. Choate b1903 KY, Nick is my grandfather. Nick and Irene had several children, William F. Choate b1930 is my father.

Thanks for your reply. It appears to me that your information after the 1860 census refers to a different Lawrence than the Lawrence son of Gideon. I base this on the birth state your information shows. Do you have other information that indicates otherwise?

I do not have info but i am looking for Sarah (Sally) Sauls.
She was born in Sc in 1868. I noticed that Georgianna had a daughter named Sally. My Sally had a daughter named Georgiana in 1904. Is this just a coincidence? Also, Sally moved to Effingham Co,GA married my gggrandfather, E.J. Myers. I have found a Edward Myers, their son, living with an Abraham and Eliza Sauls in Ga. Is there a connection between the Sauls? Brothers?
Any help figuring this out would be so appreciated!

I have found info on Mary Sauls. I have found no references that dates that match for her father. I have found information on her grandfather, Abraham Sauls Sr. The Sr had two son's, Abraham jr, and Absolam, but which one is Mary's dad? The automatic information that comes up to link with my tree appears not to be correct.

I too am a decendant of John Robert Sauls, through his son John Parham. My father is actually named John Parham Sauls Turner. I would love to see the information that you referred to in your postings regarding information on James Sauls. I have not been able to find much info at all on him.
