YOUNGSTOWN – John P. “Jack” Saunders, 87, passed away Sunday evening, March 24, 2013 at Camelot Arms Care Center.
Jack was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of John Edward and Catherine Barry Saunders, and has been a lifetime area resident of the Mahoning Valley.
He graduated from Rayen High School with the Class of 1944.
Jack retired in 1985 from Conrail after working for the railroad for 40 years.
He was a a member of the Eagles Club.
He will be missed by his wife, Margaret J. “Peg” Thompson, whom he married June 7, 1947.
He also leaves to treasure his memory, two daughters, Mary Beth Brooks of Austintown and Margene Foster of Reno, Nev.; two sons, John E. “Jack” Saunders of Columbus, Ohio and Michael J. Saunders of Youngstown; a brother, Richard Saunders of Austintown, OH; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a grandson, Barry E. Brooks Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Saunders; a brother, William Saunders; and a sister, Rosemary Russo.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
There will be prayers at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home and then a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Christine Church
