My grandfather was Rosario Savoie and lived in Lawrence Massachusettes. I went with my grandparents to visit his brothers when I was very young, if I remember one was a blacksmith, one a trolley driver? and I visited a few farms.
My grandmother told me the same story about the Indian ancestry for what its worth. We lost contact with our Canadian relatives when they passed. Hope this helps.

Have you discovered some new documentation to back up this old conjecture? There had been nothing previously found that connects Francois to the Duc. Who were Francois' parents, for example?

Henri IV de Bourbon, (The Great), King of France married Mary de' Médici, Princess de Tuscany. They were married on January 17, 1600. As a wedding present to his wife, he decided to wage war against the Carlo Emanuel I de Savoy, Duc de Savoy in 1600, from which he ... Finally, a truce was declared at Loudun on 21 February 1616.

Carlo Emanuel I de Savoy, Duc de Savoy was the grandfather of Francois Savoy, born Abt. 1621 at Loudun, France, the Acadian immigrant. The wife of Carlo Emanuel I de Savoy, Duc de Savoy was Catherine Michaela, Princess of Spain, she was the grand-daughter of Caterina Maria Romola di Lorenzo de' Médici.

The Treaty of Loudun was signed on May 3, 1616 between Queen Marie de Medici, the wife of Henri IV and the rebellious prince led by Henry II, the third Prince of Condé, the nephew of Charles Soissons de Bourbon, Comte de Soissons.

Charles Soissons de Bourbon, Comte de Soissons was the father of Marie Soissons de Bourbon, Princess of Conde, she was the mother of Francois Savoy, born Abt. 1621 at Loudun, France, the Acadian immigrant.

The agreement officially ended the revolts that many nobles in France had established. Based on the terms of the treaty, the Huguenots were allowed to unite their churches in France with those in Béarn. Moreover, the treaty granted amnesty to the princes of Condé. However, Queen Marie had Henry II arrested on September 3, 1616.

I believe there is Native Blood in the Savoie Line somewhere. I have a picture of my great great grandmother, she looks very Native, but I can't find any proof of the Native heritage.

I think we have the same line going here and I've heard the same stories about the Indian Princess! My mother's grandfather was also Joseph Savoie, but I think we stem off at him. Hi Joseph and Lizzie were my great grandparents, but I could never get past Lizzie's parents in a family tree. My grandmother used to say they were from Paris, but we can't prove that. Did you ever find any info on them? I'd love to see what you found!

Her maiden name, Savoie, came along with the story that her family was descended from King Humberto's Savoie line and that my great grandfather's great grandmother was an indian woman from Canada. I am new at attempting to research my mother's background.
She was a Savoie and all my life we quietly were told that there was royalty and an indian woman, my great grandfather's great grandmother,from Canada. The Savoie gentleman was married to her as well.
My great grandfather owned the Savoie construction and quarry here in Fall River, Mass.
I would love to go beyond Henri Savoie and his son, William Henri Savoie.

Hi,

If you look through the rest of the posts in this discussion group, you will see that the tree you are referring to has been found to be erroneous. Also, in my research on whether our Savoie ancestor married a Micmac native American, I have determined this is also not true. DNA sampling of one of our cousins showed no trace of Native American ancestry but only European ancestry.

the savoies that i know are from either montreal or quebec canada. my moms dad and his brothers are from canada. and yes there is indian in us and also royalty but we had reached the stone wall too.thier names are Euclide, osmond ,eugene, leander. rosario, dinnie and donat, and vivtorio. i have reached adead end on thier parents.

Yes there was a Julie Savoie born and baptised may 2 1834 in St. Barthelemy Qc. She married J.B. St-Hilaire july 14 1863 in Plessisville. Qc. Another daughter Philomene was born in this family. She married Honore Fortier march 3 1862 in Plessisville, Qc

Annie was James and Marcelline youngest child she was my grand-mother, she married Joseph E. Fournier Sept.16, 1935.
James and Marcelline had 8 children in all, I have all their names and most of their dates if you would like them.

Hi, I would try the Montreal centre first, you mentioned Ste-Elisabeth and i believe that is near Joliette. If you get nothing there then i would try the centre in Trois Rivieres. You usually will get a baptism certificate rather that a birth certificate because children were usually baptised within a day or two of birth but it will state their birthdate and their parents. You can also get the marriage and death records as well but you do have to have the exact dates for the events because the archives will not do any searching.

As for certificates, you can order them from the national archives du quebec. they charge $0.25 per page plus shipping. You just have to have the exact date of the event and they can send copies of records out to you. there are 9 regional offices and the addresses are listed at this website:

I am connected to the Bourbonnais/Kankakee Savoie families. I do not have information for the 1900s. Do you have names of parents and grandparents? To my knowledge all of the Savoies there are descended from Jean-Baptiste Savoie and Felicite Martin, married in 1829 at St-Leon de Maskinonge. They had 7 sons who lived in the area; your Clifford probably descends from one of them. I checked my copy of the death records for Church of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bourbonnais, no Clifford.

I have checked my database; those with the name George were born abut 1856-1859. I do not know the other names you mentioned.

No doubt I do not have all the children of these families. They had large families (some 14 children) with many sons.
The Savoie family who first immigrated to Bourbonnais came about 1847 with a group of other families.

You mentioned the girl's school. My father and 3 other boys went there one year, they did not have facilities for boys, so they boarded with a family across the street (who happened to be our relative).

Looking for further information on Joseph Savoie born 10 April 1873 to Joseph Savoie and Mathilde Pelisson of St. Damien Parish in Bedford. (This Bedford is outside Montreal, I think.) I think this may be my ggrandfather, but am not sure. He ended up in Richmond Virginia as Joseph Savoy and his parents were Joseph (b. 1843) and Mathilda (b.1844) Savoy, but every census he changed his birth information. His mother Matilda apparently had 12 children, all but 2 of who died young.

Would appreciate any help.

WILL SAVOIE DEAD
Will SAVOIE, formerly of Greenleaf, but who has made Chicago his home for the past twenty years, died at his home in that city last Thursday. He had typhoid fever, which resulted in other complications, the result of which caused his departure. he leaves a family of a wife and one daughter in Chicago, also leaves his aged parents of Clyde and a number of brothers and sisters. George SAVOIE has been in Chicago for three weeks and Mrs E H SCHLIER and Mrs Ed. HOGUE, his sisters, were also in Chicago and for the funeral which was held Monday of this week. interment was made at Chicago. Will SAVOIE was well and favorably known by the people of this section about twenty years ago. Those who remember him, will greatly regret his death.
