Annie Irona (Irana) scaggs married Albert Oliver Carr in 1889 in Missouri. Have been told her mother was full blood Cherokee or of the Cherokee tribe. I believe her father was John Scaggs and Elizabeth Jane Cowden but am not sure if the Indian issue is true.

Also Albert's father Joseph Carr born 1806 in St Clair, Illinois married a Martha Scaggs who was born in 1834 in Tennessee. Does anyone know anything about these people.

Would be interested in sharing information.

totally stuck! i have an Elizabath SKAGGS in cass co mo. 1860 she is found on the census being about 23 yrs old and living under her in the same house are what i assume to be 2 siblings. JOHN G. 12 and SUSAN 10.

i have all her info from 1860 to current. but her past is whats throwing me.

im sure shes related to the other skaggs in the area to include JD SKAGGS, LARKIN AND WILLIS.

but heres my problem....im not sure of who her mother and father were. family lore states she was left with family and possible smaller sibs while her fam went back to visit other relatives. which the story goes...they all drown crossing some river. resulting in elizabeth not really knowing how old she really was, when her birthday was or anything else for that matter.

im sure she fits in the KY SKAGGS line some how, but for many yrs we have just hit a wall.

anyone have any info that matches up with this, it would be a big help. maybe a missing skaggs line?

i dont think she is a sister to larkin and willis, but i do think she is related to them some how!

I have been researching my husband's family. His grandmother was Parthenia Scaggs b 2/12/1865. SHe married John Dow Lester on 30 Sept. 1886. I know her father was Andrew (who married a Peradine Akers) and his father was William and his father was Joseph. They are all from Auburn Twsp., Montgomery Co. VA. The only information I have about any of these siblings is Violet I. She married William Jennings Bryant Scaggs in 1923, and was pregnant by another man at the time she was married. She gave birth later that year to Owlen Clements Scaggs. She had two more children Geraldine Scaggs b abt 1925, and Francis Scaggs b. abt 1926.

In the Moses Scaggs will of Green Co., Ky. ca 1836, are the names of his brothers and sisters and some of their spouses and their children's names. Could anyone tell me who the spouse was of Moses Scaggs' brother John? It gives his daughter as Susannah married to William Query, and a daughter Rachel that was not married. Could anyone tell me any more on the family of John Scaggs? I would like to know the names of any wives and the names of any other children. Any help appreciated.

Newbie here, so be gentle! I'm just beginning research on my fiance's family tree, and would appreaciate any info you can offer. I've read the posts by Wanda Fay Schneider, and can add a little info to one of them. She mentioned an Issac Scaggs, that married Georgianna Choate, one of their children was Clinton W. Scaggs. He married a woman named Mary C. ?, they had children, two sons named William Jennings Bryant Scaggs and Clinton W. Scaggs Jr., and three daughters, Hilda (?), Alice, and Georgia. William married a Violet I. Clements in 1923, and they had three children, Owlen Clements Scaggs (1923-1986), and two daughters, Geraldine and Francis (ages 5 and 4 & 1/2 respectively, at the time of the 1930 census). Owlen Clements Scaggs married Dolores L. Wilson (1924 - ), they had two children, Owlen Clements Scaggs Jr. (1945 - ), and Carla Denise Scaggs (1960 - ), who is my fiance. Owlen C. Scaggs Jr. married a woman named Linda (don't have her last name handy), they had two children, Owlen C. Scaggs III and Timothy Scaggs. Both of THEM are married with children. Details if you would like them.
That's what I have to now. Anything anyone can add on either the Scaggs or Clements line (especially this one!) would be terrific, and most appreciated.

This Morning

Greenup -- Andrew Benton Bays, 93, died at 5:30 a. m. today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Addie Scaggs of Rt. 2, Greenup. He had resided with the Scaggs family for the past 19 years, and moved to Greenup County 60 years ago from Elliot County.
He was born Jan. 4, 1865, in Indiana, a son of the late Charles and Mary Bays.
The body will be removed this afternoon from Riggs-Sammons Funeral Home to the Scaggs residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p. m. at the Smith Branch Church. Elders Ira Adkins and Baxter Osborne will officiate and burial will be in Smith Branch Cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, Charlie Bays of Lloyd, Ky., Sam and Alfred Bays of Franklin Furnace, O., Ellis Bays of Smith Branch; four daughters, Mrs. Laura Thomas and Mrs. Nancy Scaggs of Route 2, Greenup, Mrs. Dean Holbrook of Grahn, and Mrs. Lillian Moore of Wurtland; one brother, William Bays, Wurtland; 42 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mrs. Leota Bays, died Dec. 4, 1947. Three brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

There was two Scaggs Families living in Tishomingo Co. Ms. in the 1830-1840's. My family Cally Scaggs was one of them, and when Tishomingo Co. was divided he ended up in Itawamba Co. The other family was Henry Scaggs. I don't know what become of Henry. Does any one know who Henry Scaggs was. I have no idea who Callys parents or siblings were so any help would be appreciated.

I am searching for my great grandmother Cora Elizabeth (Warren) or Warner. She married Thomas Monroe Scaggs (born 2/27/1872 died 10/4/1953 Tennessee) married on or about 5/27/1901.They lived in Hurricane mills, Tennessee. They had four children Lena 8/10/1903 Carter William 7/1904(Carter was my grandfather) Geneva 5/16/1907 Charlie 12/25/1909 also one child that died Almonzo 9/16/1911.They divorced and she left the children behind with thomas.she was born around 1886.Some say she left Tennessee with a man named Kincaid? It is also said that she went to Oklahoma. I have been told she was full blooded Cherokee. Later he married Donnie Warren born 3/9/1889 died 8/27/1938 Any information would be greatly appreciated. No one knows what happend Cora not even her own children.

My grandmother was Fannie Helen Scaggs (b: abt 1888 in DC). Her father was Eugene Charles (or Charles Eugene) Scaggs (b: abt 1859 in DC). He married Fannie ? (b: abt 1868 in England; immigrated in 1885). His father was James S. Scaggs (b: abt 1827 in MD). He married Martha C. ? (b: abt 1838 in MD).

My sources for Eugene are family history and the 1920 and 1930 Censuses. My sources for his father James S. are the 1860 and 1870 Census. There is a Scaggs listed in the 1850 Census with no first name - he was living in a boarding house. The location, age, occupation and place of birth are consistent with James S. but since no first name is given, that is pure speculation. I am still researching the years between 1870 and 1920.

I am especially intereseted in anyone who might have information on the maiden names of the wives involved here, as well as any other information on Eugene or his father.

After Samantha died, Henry remarried around 1904, but the marriage is not recorded in Rowan Co, so it may have been in Elliott or Morgan Co.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Hogtown prec., E.D. 156, page 15A, lists as family #237:
Scaggs, Henry, 61; Berry Bell, 51; married 6 years, 2nd marriage for both. dau Ethel E.,18; dau Clary B., 13. All born in Ky.

What was Berry Bell's maiden name and who was her first husband? Are Ethel and Clary her daughters instead of Henry's? Their names do not match those of Henry & Samantha's younger daughters:

I would like to know who Dora's parents were. They were from West Virginia, around the Wheeling area (I think!) I know that Dora had a sister named Belle who live her adult life as a artist in New York and used to take tea with the Teddy Roosevelts. She died of diabetes in early 1930's in Scaggsville, Maryland and her sister's house. Dora Nancy married Lemuel Amos Welsh Jan.1,1882. Dora was born in West Virginia in 1859. Her marriage to Lemuel was arranged by her mother, who was big into geneology and the "right" blood lines. Dora also has a couple of brothers but I don't know their names or anything else about them. One of the brothers had a son named Jake. He was a member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire department and was also a janitor at the O.W.Phair Elem. School in the 50's and 60's and early 70's. He died in the late 70's.
