Scarletts in Suffolk

I am descended from James Scarlett who was a butcher in Nacton, Suffolk in the 1830's and 40's. His wife was Maria Cork and they married in 1831. James was born circa 1806.
His father was also a butcher in Nacton and named James. His mother was Ann Scarlett. James Scarlett Senior was born in 1781. James Scarlett and Maria Cork left Nacton before 1851 and the butchers shop disappeared. Siblings of James Scarlett junior include John and Susannah.
Any information/contacts connected to this family line are welcome.

News Item - Jim Scarlett - Bonham, TX 1888

From the Los Angeles Tribune, March 18, 1888:

THE TEXAS CASE.
A Man Supposed to Be Murdered Comes Up Smiling.

BONHAM, TEX., March 17. – Contrary to the expectations of every one, the sensational murder trial of Jim Scarlett, commenced yesterday, has ended by Scarlett being admitted to bond in the sum of $3000. Not one-half of the witnesses were examined, as the evidence was conclusive that the man was living for whom Scarlett was standing trial for murder. The story all the way through seemed stranger than fiction. But for a technicality in the verdict rendered five months ago, Scarlett would, ere this, have paid the death penalty, while the man for whom he was suffering the extreme extent of the law would been alive and well. Lacefield, who was claimed to have been killed by Scarlett, but who tells an extraordinary story of escape from the river where his would-be murderer had thrown him, is still in town. While his strange statement bears many sensational features, yet supported as it is by the evidence of reliable witnesses, it is believed by almost every one. Scarlett, who was rejoicing over a short respite from hanging granted by the last District Court, can scarcely realize his good fortune. The strongest case that can possibly be made against him is attempt to murder, or possibly not more than aggravated assault, with punishment not exceeding three or four years in the penitentiary.
Stephen Scarlett North Carolina

Stephen Scarlett was born abt 1749 in Orange Co, NC. I descend through his son, James. I am trying to come to some consensus of his wife's name. I have found Sarah (Sally) Jackson, Sally Flinthem and Sally Laycock. Stephen died in 1817 in Orange Co. Can anyone help me solve the mystery of his wife's maiden name or tell me where to look.

In putting together a heritage photo album of my father and his family I came across a photo and a tintype of my grandmother's great-grandfather, Newman Scarlett. He is identified in her father's handwriting on the back of the photograph. The family was from the Indiana - Ohio area.

I have scanned front and back of the photograph and would be happy to share it with anyone who thinks they, also, link to this man.

lauraloub

Hasket Scarlett, Wapello Co., IA 1850

Does anyone know of a Hasket Scarlett? While doing research I found him on the 1850 Wapello Co., IA census. He was born about 1817 in North Carolina. His wife Sarah was born about 1817 in Kentucky. They had two children Ellen and Peter, and a Celia Quigley (age 14 in 1850) living in their household. I am wondering if this Hasket Scarlet could possibly be a child of John Scarlet(abt 1775- 1855) and Orpha Hasket? John and Orpha were born in North Carolina, they were married in 1793 in NC, but they lived in Tennessee, and in 1850 they lived in Barren Co., Kentucky. I would be very interested in sharing information about the Scarlet(t)'s or Hasket(t)'s. Thanks

From the Christian Guardian Newspaper Mar 7 1923 P 19

Sudden Death of Rev R.A. Scarlett

The following telegram received on Friday morninglast tells its own sad story. The news which it contains will be received with profound regret by the whole church:
"Portage La Prairie and surrounding community greatly shocked today to learn of the sudden death of the Rev. R.A. Scarlett, pastor and chairman of district. He had suffered from light attack of flu, and probably took up his loved duties too soon. He was very busy lately with pastoral duties, especially visiting sick. He led his usual prayer-meeting last evening, giving an earnest message, conducted father and son services last Sunday, was widely beloved and was completing a successful four year pastorate. His two sons are studying in Toronto.
R.O. Armstrong"

SCARLETT, David

I was not trying to research the SCARLETT name, but came across the name of David Scarlett. As a result. I decided to spend asome time researching the name.

As we step back in time to the 1800's we have the case of a London born Robert Henry SCARLETT. As the years rolled by, he married one Harriet Annie SINFOIL in the Wandsworth District of Greater London in 1893.

Robert and Annie would move to the Liverpool and Toxteth Park region
of England where Robert would serve as a School Master.

Son David SCARLETT was born about 1896 in the region of Liverpool.

As the years rolled by, young David would serve his King, Country and the Commonwealth in the call to arms during WW I.
Sadly, David SCARLETT, like so many others, was lost. He paid the ultimate price in 1916

Now, I do not know what happened to Robert and Annie, or if they had other children. But, David is one of the "lost green leaves" of the SCARLETT Tree..

William and Isabella Scarlett

I am researching William SCARLETT and his daughter Isabella.

Isabella was born in Durham, England on 11/16/1862. She is listed in the 1881 census as a domestic servant in York, England. She married Henry PROUD on 4/8/1882 at St. Paul's in Spennymoor, Durham, England. Her marriage certificate lists her father's first name as William; I do not know whether he was alive at the time of her marriage, and have no other info regarding William. Although Isabella is listed as having been born in Durham, it is suspected that the family is not originally from Durham.

Isabella and Henry eventually moved to Pittston, Pennsylvania sometime in the 1890's.

If anyone has any information or connection to this family, please contact me. Thanks.

I am a decendant of James Miles Scarlett and his wife Mary. They came to America around 1880 or so settling in Export, PA. Originating from a small town near Vienna, Austria. I don't know if this is anything significant. Let me know.

Minnesota Scarletts

Am looking for families related to George and Catherine Jane Scarlett, who owned a wheat farm in Forsyth in Koochiching township in the 1910 era. There were 7 children, and my grandmother was Margaret Statira Scarlett (also her maiden name). George was born in Canada and married my great-grandmother across the border in Minnesota. Wondering if anyone has done a family tree on our side of the Scarlett's.
e-mail rwcaprine@cs.com
