Your guy John J Scattergood of Providence is listed in the Albany Directory on ANCESTRY.COM. "John J. Scattergood clerk 110 North Main house 39 Vandewater Providence RI 1890, 1891, 1892" The 110 Main Street address was the Scattergood FURNITURE STORE that was founded in England by William Scattergood. If you go to the SCATTERGOOD-MOORE website you will see photos of the Providence Scattergoods. They were his ancestors.
