German origins of surname

My research has shown that the surname Schaumburg despite being literally translated as "foam castle" in modern German, actually has it roots in ancient German meaning "castle that looks over the land" as the namesake for the "Die Schaumburg" castle that overlooks the Weser river.

Transitions seem to be that in the earliest days (circa the year 1000) it was spelled something like "Scoenborg" or "Scowenborg", then transitioned to "Schauenburg" ("schauen"=to look, "burg"=castle), and then eventually today's Schaumburg.

There seem to be variations on this that still exist within Germany (Schauenburg, Schaumburger, etc.), and well as many variations that probably came about due to changes during emigrations from Germany.

If you do web searches on Scoenborg, Scowenborg, Schauenburg, and Schaumburg, you will get many German sites that explain much of this history, and the territories at points in time known as "Schaumburg". There is an enscription on the old stone tower at Die Schaumburg over the Weser with the old German version "Scowenborg" used.

I'm not a professional geneologist or a German history expert - but these are observations based on my personal web and field research. If anybody has more authoritative information I'd be interested.

Hesse town/village: "Karstenhausen" or "Kestenhausen"

I'm researching Schaumburg ancestors who were born in a town/village alternately listed as either "karstenhausen" or "kestenhausen".

I've searched the internet extensively and have yet to find any German town, modern or old, with a name similar to these.

The town/village referenced shoud be in Hesse, or Kurhessen. Any assistance identifying the current or correct former name of this town would be appreciated. Several Schaumburg's were born there in the early 1800s.

Thx

Does anyone have knowledge of Schaumburgs in Koenigsberg [Kaliningrad] in the first half of the 18th century? My ancestor Johannes Jacobus Schaumburg married in Belgium in 1753 - he was said to be born in Gumbinnen, the son of Zacharias Schaumburg.

Schaumburg

Simon Schaumburg born 1870 in Germany immigrated to the USA in 1892 with part of his family. His wife Anna Lindow (according to Death Cert. of Fred, it was Linda), had 4 known children:
William Albert 1894
Margaret Emily 1896
*Fredrich Simon 1898 in Iowa
Simon Herman 1900

*Fred married his first wife (not being sure what happened, if she passed away or if they divorced), he remarried Hazel Grove BELL in Iowa. They later moved to Texas. If any of this looks familiar to anyone please let me know. My husband (Terry) is wanting to know more about the only grandfather he knew. Though Fred is not biological, Terry had a great love for him, I know you will understand how he feels. He is definately proud of Fred. Thanks for your time. Deb

SCHAUENBURG, Laurie/Laura

We think the last name may be misspelled.

I am trying to locate a Laurie/Laura Schauenberg born 2/15/71. She was born at St. Annes in Los Angeles, adopted out of Covina Adoption Agency, California. Her birth mother is Katheleen Francis Daniels, birth father is Richard Gerry McGarrigle. Her adopted mothers maiden name is Trier.

Laurie/Laura's birth name was Channette Marie Daniels. This is my sisters child who she had no choice in the adoption. Katheleen was 16 and our mother took the baby from the hospital before Katheleen woke up. Our family medical history needs to be given to her. Katheleen has M.S. and all the women have died of cancer.

Any help?
