In case you are still looking for info on Georg Adam Scherer of Edelbach:

Georg Adam Scherer, son of Georg Adam Scherer (Edelbach Nr. 45), was baptized on 28 March 1827at Ernstkirchen in Schöllkrippen, Lower Franconia,Bavaria.

It is true that there are no civil records for Edelbach prior to 1876. However, St. Katharina's Catholic Church at Ernstkirchen (Schöllkrippen) has birth/baptism, marriage, and death records that begin in the late 1600s. These records can only be viewed at the Würzburg Diocesan Archives in Germany; they are on microfiche.

You may contact me directly at chessler@aol.com

charlie hessler
indianapolis, indiana
She arrived with her mother, Anna, her sister, Elizabeth, and her brother, Friederick.

I am trying to find information on her Clara's mother and siblings, where they moved to, who they married, when they died, where they are buried?

I know Clara found her way to Hamilton Co., Ohio, as she married Joseph Boehles there in 1854. She would have been 17 or 18 at the time. LOUIS SCHERER (1860-1923) b. MO. d. St. Louis. Occupation: PAINTER. Father: CHRISTIAN SCHERER, b. Germany. Mother: Anna Frick, b. Germany. Informant: BERTHA SCHERER.
CHRISTIAN SCHERER, b. abt. 1807 in Prussia. d. poss. 1860-1861, IA (?). Occupation: PAINTER. Father: ? Mother: ?
Married Wilhelmine Meinhardt in 1858, St. Paul, MN. 1860 Census - lived in Lansing, Allamakee, IA. CHRISTIAN SCHERER, b. abt. 1807, may have died in Lansing, IA, in 1860-1861, as he signed a quit claim deed over to WILHELMINE SCHERER (believed to be his 2nd wife). Wilhelmine was living with son-in-law and dau. in Atchison, KS, in 1865 census.

These Scherer men were all painters. CHRISTIAN SCHERER (b.1807) taught his stepson Ernest Meinhardt/Meinhart the painting trade. Ernest had a very long and successful painting business in Atchison, KS. He not only painted houses, but pictures and theater backdrops, etc. I'm eager to hear more from SCHERER men who became painters. Is there a familial connection?

Does anybody have obituaries of these men?
My Wilhelmine Scherer and Christian Scherer go further back in time. But I got to thinking that in your research with the same names, you might come upon info on my Wilhelmine and Christian. My great-great grandmother Wilhelmine (maiden name unknown) was born abt. 1811 in Saxony, Germany. Her first husband's surname was Meinhardt (later her sons spelled it as Meinhart or Minehart). On May 9, 1858, Wilhelmine married Christian Scherer (b. abt. 1807 in Prussia) at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. In 1860 they were living in Lansing, Allamakee, IA. In 1865 Wilhelmine was living with her dau. Mary (Meinhardt) Hertha & Mary's husband John Hertha in Atchison, KS. Wilhelmine was living in Kansas City, MO, in 1878. She died in Chicago on Oct 31, 1879, at age 71. It is very likely that "my Christian Scherer" had children by a prior marriage that were adults by the time he married "my Wilhelmine." Let me know if you come across a SCHERER that may relate to my Wilhelmine & Christian Scherer. Other spellings (or misspellings) seen on Internet: Schuerer, Scheurer, Scheerer, Scherrer, Schrier, Schreyer, Sherer. I will look in my old "Miscellaneous Scherer" file and see if there is anything I have uncovered about your Scherer family.

I am most interested in any information about Simon's parents, Andrew & Anna: when & why did the come to the U.S., what did Andrew do for a living, did they always live in Medina, etc. Do you have a copy of their death certificate or other documents? Please let me know what information I might have for you.

John Perdue
Brookfield, WI

Hello -

Not sure if I responded to this. Don't think so. My Grandfather was Charles Scherer. Don't think I ever heard of him refered to as Charlie. He was born Karl in Landstuhl, Germany in 1874. His wife was Annie Wagner and his children were Mamie (must have been a popular name back then), Viola, Charles (died at 1 or 2 yrs), Arthur and Walter. I never heard of any ohter Scherer's growing up, but after starting research, I find they're all over the place. Wish I could provide you some helpful info, but it doesn't look like it.

Best of luck!
Bob

I am responding to your message that is old, but I just discovered it. I have information on the Wilhelmina Scherrer you mentioned. The birth date, birth place and death date match exactly with the sister of my great grandfather who lived in Indianapolis. Her maiden name was Kuhn and she married John Scherrer in Connersville, Indiana, in 1864. I also have information on their eight children, which may give your mother some clue to the connection to her. I would be happy to provide whatever assistance I can.

Christian Scherer, b. abt. 1807, married in St. Paul, MN 1858.

Christian Scherer married Wilhelmine Meinhardt 09 May 1858, at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN. This was possibly a second marriage for Christian Scherer. Wilhelmine had at least 3 children from a prior marriage: Theodore, Ernest, and Mary Meinhardt/Meinhart/Minehart. In 1860, Christian, Wilhelmine, Ernest and Mary were living in Lansing, IA. Theodore m. Amelia Seigenthaler in Anoka, MN in 1859. It is believed that Mary married John Hertha (aka John Schilling) in St. Paul, MN, abt. fall of 1862. In 1860 Christian & Wilhelmine Scherer were living in Lansing, IA. Christian deeded house in Lansing, IA, to Wilhelmine in Sep 1860. She sold house in March 1861. Did Christian Scherer die bet. 1860-61? Christian is a mystery. Can anybody help me?

Joyce, my family has a genetic eye diseaes, retinitis pigmentosa. I don't know of any Shearers, but this is x-linked, passed through the females, who change their names with marriage, so it's hard to trace by family last names. There will be males with first cousins, amle, on their mother's side, effected, or also maternal uncles, or a maternal grandfather. If any males have passed it to a son, then it is not X-linked. Did you have SHearer males passing it to sons? Carol Carlson

Hi - it's possible that I may be able to share some useful information with you. I'm currently researching the Scherer side of my family - which is from the Milwaukee area. I don't know of a Raymond or Walter, but may know some of your more distant relatives.
Celeste

Contact me by email at normscherer@earthlink.net and we can discuss the rest of the family and why there may be communication problems.

Norm
