I am looking for the names of Clark Edward Schermerhorn's parents and where they were born, etc. Clark was born Oct. 6, 1851 at "Shaska??" County, New York according to family lore. I do not believe this county name is correct so think maybe it was a mispronounciation handed down. His father may have been a Methodist minister and his family may have had 90 acres of land in NY where a Woolworth Bldg./Trinity Methodist Church is located. They may have moved to Wisconsin at some point and shortly after to Illinois. One of his brothers may have been named Robert (who wrote a book on training horses), and also Charles, George, Steven, & William. Sisters (possibly twins: Katherine and Axie Adeline who married a Frank Lucas and lived in Chicago), sister Rose A. who married Simeon Hathaway and lived in White Rock,Ogle County, IL and a sister Elvia who lived in Chicago and was a school teacher.
Clark married Sarah M. Whitcell in 1876 in Aurora, Illinois and moved to Iowa in the spring of 1878. From that point on I have most of the family information. Clark was my grandmother Leta's father. Any information about his/my Schermerhorn ancestors would be appreciated.
