I'm in the same boat my grandfather told me a few months back that kurt von Shleicher is my great great great uncle (don't know how many greats :P) with the information i know i have a feeling you're the descendent of Kurts sister. I was told Kurts brother or one of moved to london quite early on and further down the track the family line on his side ended up here in Australia. I also have a similar change in name going from von schleicher to just schleicher and then due to world war 2 and tension with the germans my great grandparents started pronouncing shleicher so that it no longer sounded German. mygrandfather however pronounces it as usual and was attacked by my great grandmother about it up until she dies early last year. that's about all i can recall of the story at this point in time but if you have any questions i might be able to help with im certain my pop will have constructive input... p.s cool we're realted somehow XD
