Schlichting from Prussia to Chicago

My great grandmother, Amalia Schlichting (b. 1839) married my gr grandfather, John Schoennauer, in Chicago in 1869. She died in 1919 in Seattle. Her father was Fredrick William Schlichting who apparently was born in West Prussia and died in Illinois (dates unknown). He had a son named Fredrick born in 1837, two years older than Amalia, and died in 1909. can anyone help with further information about the Schlichting name, possibly extending the line further back to its Prussian roots?
