Social network for related researchers

Hi everyone

Suzette here from http://www.estacaille.org
I wanted to let you know that I've recently started a social network for researchers that is related to my genealogy websites. It's similar to Facebook in concept. Schmudlach researchers are welcome to come and join (no cost), set up a personal profile and post photos, comments in the forums, read my research journals (upcoming addition). The link to the network appears on the bottom left of most of the pages at http://www.estacaille.org
You can also visit it directly at http://estacaille.ning.com
Hope to see you there!

Also, Just a couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be discovered by a Schmudlach cousin in Germany. He's provided me with 2 more generations and lots of cousins. I've taken my secondary Schmudlach database offline as there are a few errors in it. I'll be posting my revised ancestry in a month or two (I hope - lots to add)

I do not believe that my grandparents, Walter Carl and wife Helen, got married there.
They lived most of their life in Bensenville, IL.

I am trying to find anyone still living from that family that has any information on her Grothpietz family. Everyone else is long gone.

I suppose that I am your cousin as I am Emil's sister Ida's granddaughter. I used to correspond with two of Emil's son's, Adolph and Fred as I gathered family history information. I would be happy to share what I have. I also used to correspond with another Schmudlach cousin so distant we never did figure out how we were related but I have lots to share and lots of questions as well that I would love to discuss with you and Mike. So I hope to hear from you soon.

Marilynn Story

Re: Any Schmudlach

Dear Barb:

My grandmother was Ida Louise Schmudlach and although she died before I was born, most of my 7 aunts told me of the family tradition that the Schmudlach's were "royalty" and well-off. They talked about Alsace-Lorraine and the "Red Stocking", a tavern, I believe. Although they were quite old when I "interviewed" them and were not very specific as to details, at least I can attest to some support for the tale. My great grandfather was Daniel who supposedly left a family in Germany when he came here and started another. I have never been able to figure the tie between Carl and Daniel although another family researcher that I corresponded with years ago and I both think there probably is one. Maybe we can track this mystery down. Hope to hear from you soon.

Marilynn Story

Ernstine was my great grandmother, she married Christoph Gatzke and they lived in Ripon and are buried in Hillside Cemetery in Ripon, WI. I was just there last week and wrote the dates from the headstone on a tablet which I left at my brother's house, but they had children in the 1880's, so she was born in the 1860 ish timeframe.(I will soon have the dates).Their children were Theodore, Henry, Fred, Harry and Leo Gatzke. Do you think there is any connection with the branch you are researching? I have no other information, unfortunately. I would love to know more. Thanks for any info! Kathy

Hi Marilynn and cousins, I'm the person researching the John Schmudlach line. I am still no closer to finding the connection between my branch and yours. I was in Wisconsin this summer and made some wonderful discoveries. I found John and Caroline's graves in Ripon's Hillside cemetary and got a copy of Rudolph and Emma's (Seidlitz) marriage certificate. I also visited Schmudlach Creek which is east of Coloma. Marilynn, I plan to look over the Freidrick descendants file to see if anything comes clear. Take care everyone. Paula

Hi Marilynn,
It has been a long time since I wrote that. I had kind of given up. My husband is Gary, Clarence's youngest son we live in the Montello area and frequently go by the old store where Clarence grew up in Glen Oak. I had read some of Maynards notes and I decided to look into the history as far as I could. I got stuck on Emil though. According to Maynards notes he lived out in Mecan. Is that where Harold & Rosalie now live? So Emil had how many brothers & sisters and where was he born do you know? I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Wendy

Marilynn,
It would be easiest if you emailed me direct and gave me your email address. I believe that the Wendy Schmudlach in this note is my cousin Fred's wife. Fred would be Clarence's oldest son. My father is Maynard. My Dad has a lot of the original papers and photos of the Schmudlach's and has been putting together stories etc.. My email is msschmudlach@msn.com
Hope to hear from you, Mike

I was told that in Germany the Schmudlach's were very well to do and the actual name is Von Schmudlach meaning overseer, or Lord of the Land. I am wondering if any of you have run across such a thing in your searches. My Great Grandfather, Carl Schmudlach immigrated from Germany and it is said that when he came here that he did not want to be considered any better than anyone else so he dropped the Von. Let me know or if you would like to know more of what I know about the Schmudlach line as my mom was one, please contact me! Thanks !

My grandmother was Lilly Schudlach Schoenfeld. She was born in the 1890's and died in Feb. 1985. She married Otto Schoenfeld in 1917. They lived in the Plainfield, Ia area for many years. She had at least one brother named Emil. They both lived in Ionia, Iowa (New Hampton area) upon their deaths. I don't know anything else about there origins. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
