The Rose Magdalena Schmutz I am looking for was born 02-19-1890 in Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri. She married Joseph Milton Allen Ford. I am looking for information her and her parents and any sibiling she may have had. Like I said before her parents were Rudolph Schmutz and Rosina Luginbuhl. I know she had a brother Rudolph and he married someone by the first name of Mary. I know this because I found a picture that say Rudolph and Mary and my aunt said it was taken on a farm in canada but she don't remeber what part of Canada. Do you think is the same Rose Schmutz as yours, what was your Rose's parents name. From what I understand from my aunt, Rudolph, Rosina and their son Rudolph came to the United States by the way of Canada.

ma'am, my name is brooke raley. i am the daughter of carol susan raley and the granddaughter of charlotte marie raley. i dont know what kind of information you are looking for, but here is what i have:
charlotte is still alive, and johnny passed in june of 1995. thier children, Margarette DeVore, Johnny Raley Jr., Norma Hagadorn all reside in Florida. Carol raley, my mother, just recently passed away of cancer in february of this year. aunt margarette has three children: thomas john who is married and has one child. Ashley nicole, 21 and single. charles (or lil' charlie) dean jr., single. aunt margarette married charles dean devore sr, and they live in gibsonton, florida.
aunt norma married uncle victor, but he has passed away of sickness a few years ago, they had one child, vance. they also live in gibsonton. vance is somewhere around 21-23.
uncle johnny (buddy) raley maried aunt shirley. they have two children. austin mack, 21 years old married and is expecting a baby girl here come end of august or begining of september. and alex, 14. i live with them in springhill, florida.
Carol Raley, never married but has one child with david shawver, and that would be me! brooke dylan raley, 14. like i said earlier, she passed with cancer.

now to nana, or charlotte. she is 69 years old, lives here with us in springhill. she and aunt barbera do not talk, there was alot of wrong done, and it never got handled out right. she has been meaning to get on here and look up the family, but i decided to do it today to see what i can find.

as for margarete watkins: her and uncle P.G. are still alive and reside in shelbina, mo. we talk to her family, but it is so confusing i just dont know what to tell you on that.

i really dont have any more information. other than that aunt barbera's husband, herold, died some time ago. she lives in new jerey.
if you have any questions or anything or just want to talk to charlotte, my email is brk_dln_rly352@yahoo.com
i hope that i was of some assistance

sincerely,
brooke raley

and ma'am, you said not much information on your grandparents, can i please have what information you do have?
thank you

Re: Schmutz and Y DNA

Hi George and Karl,

Thanks for your postings of Saturday, May 9.
George if your father also came from Switzerland, but immigrated to Kansus, not Utah, I wonder if he also came from the area around Bern? On RootsWeb there is a posting that has a Niklaus Schmutz born in 1831 in Bern who immigrated to Davis Co, KS where he married Harriet Alice Thomas. That posting says they had a son named Ralph Edward Schmutz in 1910.

Karl’s ancestor Johannes Schmutz II was also born in Bern in 1818. It would seem that two distant cousins of his through Johannes’s son Johannes III and another through another son Gottlieb have had their DNA tested by the Sorenson lab. (see http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/SchmutzLines.html) So he would likely match them. It would certainly be interesting if you were to have DNA tested too. Some older postings suggest the Kansas Schmutz family is not related to the Utah one.

Whether you would also match them, I can’t be sure, but it’s quite likely given the location.

Whereas my husband’s ancestors were in the SW corner Germany, albeit just north of Bern. His DNA does not match the Utah Schmutz family. Of further interest is that Karl says Johannes was really from Bollingen, Switzerland. There is also a Bollingen, Germany near where my husband grew up.

Thanks to both of you for sharing your lineage!

Cordialy,

Sheila (Stark) Schmutz
Hi all,

There are now 3 men named Schmutz who have been tested for yDNA. Two have a common ancestor in Switzerland and they match each other. The third man's ancestors are from Germany and his haplotype does not match theirs.

It would be wonderful if more men named Schmutz were tested, at whichever company they chose.

Please see http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/SchmutzLines.html or email sheila.schmutz@usask.ca for more information.

Cordially,

Sheila

Hi,

This may be the persons you are seeking:

1900 United States Federal Census > Missouri > Pettis > Sedalia Ward 3 > District 113
1613 255 256 Kahlstrof Rosa Head W F June 1849 50 Wd? 0 0 Switzerland Switzerland Switzerland - ~ ~
Smutz Rudolph Nephew W M Dec 1879 20 S Switzerland Switzerland Switzerland 1885 15 -
_ Rosa Neice W F Feb 1890 10 MO Switzerland Switzerland at school

It would seem that their parents immigrated in 1885 but died between 1890 and 1900. The children are likely with the married sister of Rudolph Schmutz since it is unlikely their mother Rosina would have a sister named Rosa.

I do not find the Rosa Schmutz, b. 1890 in the 1910 census but she may have married by then. I believe this is her brother and his family:

1910 United States Federal Census > Missouri > Moniteau > Walker > District 100
141 148 Schmutz, Rudolph Head M W 42 M1 20 Switz Switz Switz Farmer General Farm
Emma M Wife F W 48 M1 20 6 4 OH Switz Switz
Samuel G son M W 17 S MO Switz OH Farm labor Home Farm
Ella M.
Hello debbie,

By the way, my father and mother (the lady from Spain) just divorced this year, they had been married for over 36 years. My parents are still in Spain. I am currently living in Sicily.

Wow! I am excited! I would really appreciate information on our grandfather and his brother. Also, do you have any information on our grandfather's parents? Regarding Veronica's heritage, I had heard that she was "part American Indian" on her mother's side. Do please, send me any information you have.

By the way, what was your father's name? Which of the brothers was he? I don't think my father knows of his passing.

Thanks for responding so quickly, hope to hear from you soon.
Veronica

Hi Veronica! Your named after our grandmother! I remember your dad and his first wife, I was little. They moved to Spain, do you still live there or did you all move back here? Since I posted that message I've met a 2nd cousin who has given me so much info. Her grandfather and our grandfather George were brothers. Is your dad still alive? I found out from cousins that my father ,"the black sheep", died last June. I can share lots of info with you that our cousin Eileen gave me. Our grandmother Veronica is the difficult one. Really hard to find much out about her and her side of the family tree. Were you also told that she was part American Indian? I would love to prove that. Well anyway, email me and I will share what info I have and we can talk and maybe fill in some holes. Debbie

We need help with this family tree branch. The writing was unclear on the documents we've seen - it looked like Schmcltz on her daughter's death certificate, which doesn't make sense. In the 1910 Chelsea city directory her maiden name was listed as Selchety.
Elizabeth Schm?ltz was born ~1839 in Bremen, Germany. She died ~1930 in Maine? She was a wife of Jacob AYEN. He was born 20 Feb 1835 in Germany. He was a butcher. They lived in Togus, Maine. They had five children: Melissa Louise, William, Katherine, George J, and Elizabeth "Lizzie" AYEN born between 1862 and 1877. Jacob AYEN divorced Elizabeth and married Mary and lived in NY. He was a civil war veteran.
Any help in figuring out her real surname, siblings, parents, places, dates will be appreciated. Please send e-mail

Hello,
I am looking for any info on a Josefa Schmutz that was married to Mathias Rieser. They had a son Maximilian Rieser, who was christened on March 24th, 1843, in Baden. I know that some time later at least Maximilian came to the United States and settled in the Hoboken, NJ. area, where he met and married a distant relative of mine named Juliana Schmutz. She was the daughter of Hermann and Elisabetha Schuler Schmutz of Doylestown/New Britian area in PA. These Schmutzes are mentioned in the book Rebels on Eighth Street, by Avis Bermen. Hermann and Elisabetha arrived sometime after the revolution in Germany in 1848. The name Maria Schmutz has come up also and I have not been able to make any connection in regard to her yet. Any further info would be of much help. Thanks.

Eileen

Looking for help with Kentucky Schmutz

Hello to all,
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me out with info. I recieved this info from a Jim Smith & his daughter Julie Mazzu in West Seneca, New York.

Hello Eileen, Yesterday you emailed back a friend of the family, Eugen Schlaak, about a John Schmutz from your family. This was for my dad, Jim Smith. The John Schmutz
we are looking for was born on March 21, 1820 and died in Sept. 20,1883. He lived in Greenup, Kentucky (USA). He was originally from Baden. He married Caroline and had 6 children, possibly 7 - Eliza, Johanna, Elizabeth, Mary, Charles, and Chris. This doesn't sound like the same John from your family. Do you have any other John's in your family. Also , how can we get information about Baden, is it a town?

I would appreciate any info that I could forward to this family.
Thank you, Eileen
