Services were held Saturday in Milwaukee for former Oshkosh resident, Mrs. John (Nora) Schock, 65, Milwaukee, who died Wednesday at home. Cremation followed. She was born Apr. 23, 1911, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Gustav and Clara Meitzen. She married John Schock in Oshkosh on Jan. 25, 1930. Surviving are her widower; one son. Gene Schock, Santa Barbara, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Carol Bollmeir, Mrs. Alyce Zais, and Mrs. Diane Walli, all of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Mary Ann Wolfman and Mrs. Janet Zais, both of Green Bay; four brothers, Nathan Meitzen, Marvin Meitzen and Earl Meitzen, all of Oshkosh, and William Meitzen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Bernice Crombie, Mrs. June Ahrens and Mrs. Joyce Bathke, all of Oshkosh, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Luzenski, Milwaukee; and 16 grandchildren.

Gottlieb G. Schock, 63, of 1302 Rush Ave,, died Saturday at 9 40 a.m. at Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient two weeks. He was born in the German Volga District on Feb 14, 1900, son of Gottlieb and Regina Schock, and was married in Canada to Miss Kathenne Kinzel on Jan. 26, 1923.
They came to Oshkosh in 1924, and he had been employed as an assembler by Bell Machine Co. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and IA of M Local 451.
Surviving are his wife, Kathenne; three daughters, Mrs. Victor Raddatz and Mrs. James Weidman, Oshkosh, and Mrs.
Ronald Mottl, Milwaukee; three sons. Clarence, Kenneth and Lawrence Schock. Oshkosh; three brothers, Fred Schock, Rostern, Saskatchewan, Jacob Schock, Cambridge, Wis., and John Schock, Milwaukee; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Tarala and Mrs. Albert Krueger, Oshkosh, Mrs. William Meitzen, Rock Isand. III., and Mrs. Albert Gerlart. Appleton, 12 grandchildren,nieces and nephews. Three grandchildren preceded in death. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerald Nerenhausen officiating Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
Friends may call at Marquardt Funeral Home from 4 p.m. today until 11 a m. on Tuesday, and at the church on Tuesday
from noon until the hour of services.

James Schock of 772 E. Railroad St., Monongahela, died suddenly in his home yesterday at 1 p.m. He was 68. Mr. Schock was born Nov. 17, 1914, in West Virginia, a son of the late James and Louise Arrions Schock. He was a retired employee of the Riverside Iron & Metal Co. of Monongahela. Mr. Schock had spent most of his life in the Monongahela area. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army's 45th Division, and was a Protestant by faith. Surviving are his wife, Garnet Heckman Schock, at home; two sons, James Schock, Jr., of North Charleroi and Alan Schock at home; two daughters, Mrs. David (Patricia) Speers of Rostraver Twp. and Mrs. Richard (Jo Ann) Stabough of East Monongahela; seven grandchildren; two brothers, William Schock of Charleroi and Ernest Schock of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and three sisters, Pauline Richison of Clarksburg, W.Va., Louise Walleck of Altoona, Pa., and Rachael Dolinar of Pittsburgh. Mr. Schock was preceded in death by three brothers, Jacob, Adolph, and Henry Schock. Friends will be received at the L.M. Frye Funeral Home, 427 W. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the United Mine Workers Local 1197 and was a member of the Pleasantview Methodist Church. His wife, Toledo Schock, died on April 23, 1965. On the 1870 census John Schock birthplace was listed as Wurttemberg. I notice your Schocks are from Wurttemberg also. Certainly John would have been JOhannes in native Germany

Hi John, Thank you for the email. In your FT their is a Wilhelm Schock born *03.04.1793 Prevorst / Heilbronn Wurttb. Gronau. He married Johanna Muller (dates unknown) They had a son Christoph Schock *28.04.1817 born in Borodino. He married Anna Schaber she was born in Borodino in *18.02.1821. Can your John :) be an younger brother of my Christoph? Are you sure that John is his name? Can his name be Johannes?

It is Schock, not Schark. It is also Caroline, not Carline

They are listed in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census as Schock, plus I have William Hiltner Civil War pension file and Caroline is lists her maiden name as Schock

Her father John Schock and married a woman named Christina. Besides Caroline, the other children are George, Sophia, Celina, John, Anna (or Emma) and Henry

According the the book, written by anonymous, Biographical and genealogical history of Wayne, Fayette, Union and Franklin Counties, Indiana on page 757
Lavina Swafford was the second wife of Jacob Shock. It says they had one daughter and five sons. Names weren't listed.
Jacob Shock's first wife was named Mary Miller and they were natives of Pennsylvania. It says Jacob Shock was born September 16, 1808.
With his wife Mary Miller, they had 4 daughters. Mary Miller Shock died at the age of 25.

Hello Alan. I won't go into a lengthy story right now until I'm sure that you will either see this and or be able to answer. I hadn't been using the message boards much but decided to look today and found your mention of a Cordelia Schock and most especially about a photo taken in the late 1800's of her siblings.
To make a long story short for now, suffice it to say that I have a copy of most of a letter written to my grandfather William Isaac Schuck by Alfred (a cousin) in 1905 I believe. He was trying to give Willam a running list of the genealogy of the family as he could remember. Your side of the family is but one of the branches, but I've been very interested in what happened to everyone.

Edgar A. Schock, 51, husband of the late Carrie I. (DePui) Schock, 76 Mt. Vernon Street, died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock in Graduate hospital, Philadelphia, where he was admitted three weeks ago suffering from a heart ailment. He was born in Tamaqua, son of Ruben and Amelia (Endy) Schock, moving 13 years ago to Pottstown. He was a machinist for Firestone Tire and Rubber company. His wife died in 1947. Mr. Schock was a member of St. John's Reformed church. Surviving are a daughter, June C., wife of Edward J. Sweeney Jr., 74 Mt. Vernon street; a son, Francis A., at home; a brother, Raymond, Reading, and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held Thursday, with brief services at a funeral home at 112 North Washington street at 9 a.m. and further services from a funeral home in Tamaqua at 1 p.m. The Rev. Paul C. Scheirer, pastor of St. John's Reformed church, will officiate. Interment will be made in Odd Fellows cemetery, Tamaqua.

Carrie I. (DePui) Schock, 49, wife of Edgar Schock, of 75 Mt. Vernon Street, died yesterday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock in Memorial hospital. She was admitted to the hospital three weeks ago. She was born and raised in Tamaqua, and was married there 24 years ago. She moved to Pottstown 10 years ago, and had lived the past six years at 76 Mt. Vernon street. She was a member of St. John's Reformed church and of its Women's guild. In addition to her husband she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William DePui, Tamaqua; a son, Francis, and a daughter, June, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Schock, and a brother, Arthur DePui, both of Tamaqua. Funeral services will be held from her home at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Further services will be held in Tamaqua, with interment to be made in Odd Fellows cemetery, Tamaqua.

William, The 1880 census reports list a John Schark, Carline, Emma and Henry. Carline is my gggrandmother by marriage. I'm researching my mother's side of the family and my grandmother's maiden name is Hiltner. I haven't been able to find anything on John's wife.
