Elaine Elizabeth Leifeld, daughter of Henry and Cecilia (Scherbring) Scholl was born March 6, 1934 on the family farm near Raeville, Nebraska. She received her elementary education from St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Raeville and graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic High School at Petersburg, Nebraska in 1952.

She was united in marriage to John B. “Jack” Leifeld on August 19, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. After marrying, the couple lived and farmed north of Albion, Nebraska for 50 years. They moved into Albion in 1998.

Elaine was a homemaker and also worked as a seamstress at Dee’s Draperies and Creative Window Designs for many years, and also worked at the local Coopp.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion and the the Altar Society where she served as president. Elaine was also a member of the Albion History and Art Club, VFW Auxillary, and a local bridge club. Previously she had belonged to the Happy Homemaker’s Extension Club. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and her flower garden.

Elaine passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at her home in Albion at 72 years of age.

She is survived by her husband John of Albion; two sons: Jerry Leifeld and wife Cindy of Albion; Mark Leifeld of Albion; four daughters: Donna Werner and husband Robert of Columbus, NE; Kathy Palmer and husband Tracy of Albuquerque, NM; Connie Schindel and husband James of Albion; Ruth Molt and husband Rick of Albion; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 step-brother: Edward Majerus and wife Delores of Petersburg, NE; 1 brother-in-law Elvin Beierman of Albion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Viola Redler and Marilyn Beierman; an infant brother Dwayne; step-father Nicholas Majerus; and step-brother Anton Majerus.

VISITATION: 4-8pm Thursday, February 22, 2007 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with 7:30pm wake service.
