Jeremiah (also appears to have been known as "Jerrett") married Patsy (last name unknown - was still alive in 1870 when my Great-Grandfather went to visit her). They appear to have had several children, the 1850 census lists Patsy as head of household (Jeremiah died betwen 1840 and 1850) and several young adults, including Wiley, the youngest at 18.

According to my Great-Grandfather, Wiley came east to Richmond county in the 1850's with his cousin to work as a Woodsman (lumberjack). He married Virginia Thrift in 1860. Their oldest son was my Great-Grandfather, William Fleet Schools. He was born on July 4, 1861. He had three younger brothers, one of whom died as an infant. His father, Wiley, was in ill-health after the Civil War, and died in 1870.

After Wiley's death, his wife Virginia, and surviving sons went to live with Wiley's elder brother, Robert Schools, whom Virginia eventually married.

William Fleet Schools was married twice, and had 13 children. My Grandfather was his youngest child (born in 1917), his name was Arlington Foxwell Schools.

My Grandfather had two children, Ann and Elwood, my father.

William Fleet Schools lived to be 96 years old, and lived with my Grandparents during the latter part of his life. My father was very close to him, and listened to his many stories regarding his family and early life.

Karen,

I believe I am also a descendant of Gabriel Schools. I too have not been able to trace any further back than him.

I believe my line is as follows:
Gabriel Schools, George Schools b. bet. 1751-1760, Elijah b. bet. 1766-1784 [Mary Langham], Elijah Schools b. abt. 1814 [Catherine Martin], Betty Schools [Richard Franklin Alexander] *Note Betty was his second wife; first wife was her sister Maria Louise Schools.

Betty was my great great grandmother. They were all from King and Queen County, Virginia.

I know that Jeremiah was the son of George Schools but I have no other info on him or his son Wiley. Would you be willing to share? Thanks!

Jeanette

There are some of us Schools in Richmond, Westmoreland , and Lancaster counties. My ancestor is Wiley Schools, son of Jeremiah, son of George Schools. He moved east with a cousin in the 1850's to work as a woodsmen. Were you aware that George Schools' father was Gabriel Schools, who was in King & Queen county as early as 1740? My sister, who works at the DAR Library in Washington, hasn't been able to find any info prior to Gabriel, including where he may have come from. We had always assumed England, but that may not be correct. Apparently, there are very few people in England with that surname, all in Lancashire currently.

Karen Schools

And your grandparents Cornelius Schools and Mary Jane Slagger? is so then we would be distantly related, 4th cousins once removed according to my computer. I would be descended from your Great Great Grandfathers brother! I have info on the Schools line back that far, and a lot of side branches.
You can e-mail me at fitz1959@hotmail.com
Bernie FitzMaurice

If you are still looking, I have some information on Rosser. He and my great-grandfather, Clarence H., were brothers. When my grandfather, Hezzie, was alive, I remember him telling me about his Uncle Rosser. He also was close to another of Rosser's sons Calvin.

I have had some luck tracking the family back past Rosser and Clarence's parents, George W. and Adeline/Melvina, and would be happy to share.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You post has helped me so much! I finally figured out how Solomon G. Schools links into my family tree.

You are right, the Schools are so confusing! My grandfather was Hezzie J. -- the first son listed in the 1920 census. He was the grandson of George W. and Adeline/Melvina. From his stories, her name was Adeline Melvine Schools and she was a Schools indeed before she married one. My grandfather said there were three lines of Schools in all.

Schools families in New Brunswick and Maine

Hi everyone,
I have traced most of the schools families in New Brunswick and Maine back to 2 brothers and a sister. I am descended from Thomas Schools (1791-1876) who only had daughters, so most of the Schools families are descended from his brother Nicholos Schools (1785-1853). Their sisters name was Margaret Schools (abt. 1785- after 1851). Thomas was born in Londonderry,Ireland, so I assume his older brother and siter were also. Has anyone else traced back their Schools family to Ireland or Scotland? Does anyone have any evidence of a name change when they immigrated such as Scoles or Scools to schools?
Thank you,
Bernie

My family used to live on Territorial Drive in Benton Harbor in the late 70's. I am trying to find out the name of the school I attended which was located only a few blocks up the street from where I lived. I won a Halloween Poetry Writing Contest while attending this particular school and am trying to get a copy of my poem from either the school or local newspaper in that area. Can ANYONE PLEASE help me???

Hi George... My grandmother was Margaret Schools. She mar. 1. Laurence Brennan. Their son was Daniel Lawrence Brennan (my f.). She mar. 2. Ernest Patchell and had Dale Stephen Patchell. Margaret d. 50-60's & Ernest mar. her sister Mary. I wonder if, after Laurence & before Ernest, she went back to Houlton (lots of Patchells there-abouts)?
My Dad was always telling us stories about the Haynesville woods and how he was from Houlton. But, records indicate he was born in Springvale, York Co. 1927.
I do know Margaret & Ernest lived in Portland & So. Portland.
I'd love to know more about Margaret's family.
Any clues greatfully accepted.

Special Ed school in Suffolk country, LI

I'm trying to find out if there were any special Ed schools in LI (suffolk county) in the early 70s.

My grandfather mentions having a daughter at a 'school' in that area, but he didn't give a name. She would have been about 30 at the time, so it had to be for special needs.

Any help would be appreciated.
