I checked an old record by Vernon Schrank (deceased). Arlene born 1914 and died July 25, 1982 (cancer),buried in Sioux Falls, SD. Arlene lived in Colorado Springs, CO at time of death. Arlene was married to Earl Thomas. Arlene's husband preceded her in death. Believe he perished in a winter blizzard, place and year unknown. Arlene and Earl had three children. One of Arlene's children came to visit Ruby Schrank, a number of years ago. Ruby said she believed his name was Robert. He was single at the time and his profession was that of attorney. He said he had two sisters. Contact has been lost since then.
I have several pictures of Mary Louise if you are interested in copies.

I am researching Arlene Johnson 1914-1982. She is the daughter of Bennie Johnson 1874-1933 and Mary Louise Schrank 1876-1926. I was wondering if you had any details about Arlene and her husband, Earl Thomas ~1913-~1960's? Earl is the son of a distant cousin of mine from Ontario, Canada (Annie Jane Shortreed) 1893-1978.
Is it possible to have a scanned copy of the page, or for a hard copy to be mailed to me? I visited the farm and the on-site gravestones. My mother-in-law, Gladys Lena Sell, was the daughter of Emma Bertha Elizabeth Schrank, the daughter of Ferdnand Schrank. I would be happy to pay for the coppy and postage. It would mean a lot to us.

Victoria Crayne

August L. Shrank Family

August L. Shrank was born in Germany Nov 3, 1852 and was married to Augusta Acktenberg, born Dec 27, 1854 in Germany. They were married in April 1876 and left Dramberg, Germany in 1877 with one child, Mary (later Mrs Bennie Johnson). The boat trip took six weeks. Their first stop was St Charles, Minn. They lived there three years and during that time a son, William C., was born to them on Aug 3, 1878.
They moved to Acton Township in 1881 and settled on a farm 7.5 miles east and two miles south of Grafton. August had several brothers, sisters and his father living there. His father's name was Wilhelm. He was born in 1820 and died in 1910.
The brothers' names were:
Ferdinand
William
Amelia ( a sister) (Mrs Nick Dipple) and Mrs August Schultz, one other sister lived in Wisconsin. All of these sisters and brothers lived within a radius of a few miles. The Shrank and Dipple land joins and is still in the family. None has been sold to anyone outside of the family, but some has been handed down to the next generation. The farm that William C. bought was purchased from W.C. Lestikow 75 years ago. August's land has been in the family for 94 years.
Eight children were born to the August Schrank family:
Mary (Mrs Bennie Johnson)
William C.
Frank A. August
John
Rose (Mrs Henry Peters)
Lizzie (Mrs William Thomas)
Minnie (Mrs Carl Hoenke).
All of the brothers and sisters lived on farms within a radius of 10 miles of each other all their lives. In 1923 Mr and Mrs August Schrank retired and moved to Grafton and lived on 5th Street. August died in Jan 1937 at age 84 and Augusta died in June 1941 at age 86.

This biography from Walsh Heritage Centennial book, ND Vol 1, 1881 - 1981 - page 38
Dieter,
These children could be one of Johann's brothers.
We know he had brothers that went to America but nothing else. Not even thier names. Johann was the only one to come to Australia.

Are the names of the father and children available on the belgard.org site? It will be useful information

Thanks for your time and effort to collect this information, maybe one day it could fall into place for me tracing my ancestors

Regards
Ross Schrank
Hello, Fellow Schrank,
My great grandfather was Henry Schrank and he was born (we think) in Hamburg in 1837. We don't know the date of his emigration, but we do know that he was in Akron, Ohio, in 1861. How he got there and when is a mystery. What intrigued me about your message was the mention of the name Kunzler (various spellings). I have in the files a 19th century portrait of the Kunzler family, as well as one of a young man named Emil Kunzler and one of two young women named Marie and Anna, all dates unknown. I had always assumed that they were related to my Swiss grandmother, not to Henry, but who knows! I will be glad to send you JPEG copies of these if you are interested. I will need your e-mail address. Perhaps the Schrank family came over together and split up after they arrived.

Paul Schrank
Raleigh, NC

Hi Teri

Radke (and its variations Radtke and Ratke) seem to have been rather common names within Pomerania, but seem to have been unique to the area.

Suggestions for research:
- Have you checked the data at Die Pommerschen Leute, DPL, German Pomeranian Newsletter, http://feefhs.org/dpl/frg-dpl.html? If you haven't done so, consider submitting your data to them, so others can find you.
- Have you looked at www.genealogy.net ? There are a number of good sites listed there for Pomerania that can give you an idea of where you can look for data.

Which area of Pomerania are your Radkes from ? Mine all came from the village of Klempin, Kr. Saatzig.

Good luck,
Joachim

11 Schivelbein churchbooks lost till 1945 were found. Three months ago I made a complete copy of these books ( more than 5000 pages ). Today I checked the book "Schivelbein Births and Christenings 1859 - 1868". There is a problem.
You wrote:
"Parents:
Johann Schrank / Charlotte Buss
Children:
Albertine *1865 Schivelbein
Emilia *1867 Schivelbein"
I found only ONE birth with the name Schrank in 1865 and ONE birth with the name Schrank in 1867. BUT 1. the given name of the father is completely different, 2. the name of the mother is another, 3. the given names of the children are NOT Albertine or Emilia.
What do you think about it ?

Sincerely,
Dieter Schimmelpfennig
--
Der Kreis Belgard-Schivelbein in Pommern http://www.belgard.org
Belgard-Schivelbein Mailingliste http://de.groups.yahoo.com/group/Kreis-Belgard
Die Genealogie der Familie Schimmelpfennig http://www.genealogie-schimmelpfennig.de
