Thanks so much for the information. It doesn't sound like he was a close relation to the Medina County Schultes, unless the relationship went back to pre-immigration. I know Schulte is not an uncommon name!

Thanks again!

The information that I have shows a birth date of September 6, 1907, born in Hallettsville, Lavaca county, Texas. He was the son of John and Matilda Bludau Schulte. Erwin was a first cousin to my grandfather. Erwin was attending barber cillege in San Antonio, Texas during 1930. Eventually he ended up in Bandera, Texas where he died in December 1997.

Been a long time since I have been on the message boards....Still researching my Schulte line and still getting nowhere.

My grandmother Theresa Schulte was born in 1872 and according to 1880 born in Illinois. Her dad was John Schulte. She said her mom was a Winnebago woman named Mary Birch. She said that her dad suffered a horrible injury and her mom ran off. She said she was put in an orphanage/convent. Her dad recovered and brought her to live with him in Chicago sometime. She was married in Chicago in 1892.
I have not found her parents and seem to be shooting holes in her story. I found a Theresa Schulte in the 1880 census of the right age and born in Illinois living with a family (Wehri) in Ohio in 1880. One of the sons was married to a Josephine Schulte. Could this Josephine be Theresa's aunt? I have not been able to connect John to Josephine. I have an old e-mail from 5 years ago that lists an Anton Schulte as Josephine's dad but have not found a record for an Anton with the wife listed in the e-mail. Does anyone have a John and Josephine Schulte brother and sister born in the 1850s in their line? They would have probably been born in Oldenburg.

Re: Fred (Friedrich J.) Schulte 1871-1951 and Ida Louise Salz 1873-1948

The story in our family was that Bernard Hermann was sent over in 1883 with two maiden sisters. Nothing was ever said about his parents, Bernard William and Maria Elisabeth Tiedeken, coming over or any of his siblings.

I have not been able to find to find exactly when they came over.

When we moved to Chicago in 1991, I started rereading some letters from Bernard Hermann to my grandfather, William Bernard when he, William, was visiting family in Chicago. the letters are wonderful, and mention many aunts and uncles and cousins, but unfortunately they do not contain any last names. In one of the letters to my grandfather, he is told to go put flowers on his grandparents' graves. At that point nobody that I talked with in the family had any knowledge that Bernard H and Maria had even come to America, or when, or where. We didn't know when they had tied or where they were buried. One day, my husband decided to go to St. Boniface Cemetery since it was German and just start walking. We walked about 2/3 of it, but did not find anything. Several years later after much searching and the help of some kind genealogists, I know that they are indeed buried at St. Boniface, along with two of their children.

Bernard William Schulte b. 14 Feb 1830 in Emden, Germany and d. 12 Dec 1902 of typhoid pneumonia in Chicago, IL.

Maria Elisabeth Tiedeken b. 15 Aug 1833 in Loga Leer, Germany and d. 13 April 1907 of pneumonia in Chicago, IL.

Their son Frank b. 16 Jul 1875 in Emden d. 21 April 1907 of pneumonia in Chicago, IL, is buried with his parents at St. Boniface.

Anna Schulte is buried their also. She died in April of 1927. I assume she is Anna Maria Lucretia who was born in Emden 21 Jan 1868.

I know that Bernard William was in St. Louis in 1890, but was in Chicago by the 1900 census.

Bernard Hermann, was married in St. Louis. For a short time the family lived in Superior, Wisconsin, but the rest of the time they lived in St. Louis. Bernard and his wife Anna Gibbins are buried there. All four of his children lived and died there.

My grandparents are William Bernard Schulte b. 1894 d.1967 and Edna Mary McBride b. 1893 d.1985. They had three children - Dorothy, Robert, and Mary Lou. Dorothy is my mother and the only one still living. Robert and Mary Lou stayed in St. Louis and many of their children and grandchildren still live there. My parents moved to Texas right after their marriage. They still live there as do three of my four brothers and my only sister and their families.

Do you have siblings? Did Stella and Helen have children? I know Katherine had Gloria and Jean from the 1930 census when they were living with Fred and Ida. Where did your family live? I know Fred and Ida lived in St. Louis and died in California. Fred's two sisters, Helen and Marie, moved out there after living in St. Louis and Chicago.

I have so many questions and so much I'd like to share with you. Do you know what port they left from or where they arrived or where they all settled. Is your family in the St. Louis area also?

After so many years of looking for your branch of the family, I am so excited to learn more. I can't wait to tell my mom about you. I will gladly share whatever I have.

Friedrich Johann Schulte, your grandfather, was born a year after Bernard Hermann Schulte, my great-grandfather. Their parents were Bernard William Schulte and Maria Elisabeth Tiedeken.

Bernard Hermann Schulte married Anna Theresa Gibbins. They had four children:William Bernard, my grandfather, was born in 1894 and died in 1967; Anna was born in 1897 and died in 1928; Harry was born in 1900 and died in 1991. In 1914 when she was 41, Annie Gibbins Schulte went to the doctor convinced that she had a tumor and was dying. Instead she was pregnant with her fourth child, and on February 22, 1915, Theresa Marie was born.

I believe a similar pattern happened in your mother's family. The three oldest girls were pretty close together and then your mother followed after quite a few years. Theresa thinks she remembers your mother. My mother remembers your grandparents.

I'm so glad to have the last names of your aunts. I was able to find the last name of Katherine because she lived your grandparents after she was married, but I was never able to trace Helen and Stella after they left home.

I have a lot more information on the family that I would be happy to share.

None of the Schulte girls are still living, my mother having died in 2004. She was a lot younger than her sisters so I never knew my grandparents (Fred and Ida), and my recollections of her sisters are all from a child's point of view. Katherine Schulte Polklesner died in 1960, Stella Schulte Gray died in 1966, and I think Helen Schulte Hayes also died in the 60's.

Is Theresa your grandfather's sister? She must be elderly!

I'd be interested in any Schulte information that you have.

Hi Sharon - I came across your posting while searching for the Soporowksi surname. My great grandparents last name was "Sporowski", and I haven't found any. I'm now thinking this may have actually been "Soporowski". I have done quite a bit of East Prussia research though, and thought it may be of help to you to let you know that my Sporowski's are from Kreis Johanisburg, East Prussia. Great grandfather Gustav Sporowski was born in the village of Kotten in K. Johanisburg. He married Louise Nikolowski from Grunewald, Klein Jerutten Parish, Kreis Ortelsburg. I would be interested to know if any of these locations or names are familiar to you, or if you find Kreis Johanisburg indeed turns out to be where you find ancestors as well. Thanks, Lisa

Franz Frederich Schulte - MISSOURI(?)/TEXAS

Looking to solve the mystery of my great-great grandfather, Franz Frederich (Frank) Schulte, born June 24, 1827 in Hannover, Germany. He immigrated to the United States sometime in the 1850s. He married Hilke Harms Gerdes May 17, 1856 in Medina County, Texas. They had the following children: Anna Katherina, Franz Christian, Engelina, Johann Heinrich, Orlando Ehme, and Maria. Franz is shown in the 1860 and 1870 census as being in Medina county, but after that he VANISHES without so much as a trace. Some of the family thinks he may have come to Texas via Missouri, but that hasn't been verified. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Josephine Schulte

Recently found on 1880 Census that she was married to a Wehri and that Theresa Schulte was living with the Clement Wehri family.
Looking for Theresa and Josephine's connection. Theresa was my grandmother and we know that she was seperated from her dad(John Schulte) for a while. She had said she was in an orphanage till her teen years and then joined father in Chicago. it was interesting finding her living in Ohio in 1880 with a family. I am wondering if Josephine could have been an older sister or an aunt. Anyone have a Josephine Schulte in their family?
