WALTER SCHURZ
Walter A. Schurz, 85, of Prairie du Chien, died Tuesday, March 22, 2006, at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien.
Walter was born May 16, 1920 in Bridgeport, to Roy and Nettie (Weighner) SCHURZ. He served in the Navy from May 30, 1944 to May 13, 1946. Following his discharge he worked in Illinois for a time before moving to Prairie du Chien. He worked for National Dec until it closed and for Farm Service until his retirement.
Surviving are one brother Lawrence SCHURZ of Rewey, nieces and nephews and a special friend Virginia Vopelak of Prairie du Chien. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Arlene Schabel.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie du Chien Rescue Squad or Prairie Maison.
