Hello Leon. Thank you so much for replying. It's always great to meet another relative. I am the great-grandson of John Janke and Anna Schwanke.

In the time between of my original post and your reply I got lucky and found a web site in Germany that contains much data about our Schwanke ancestors and lists Wilhelm and Anna as sisters (along with your ggrandmother Justine). It nearly identical to what you included in your replies. The web site that I used is this one. www.westpreussen.de/retrospect/index.php?m=family&id=I33...

Where did you find your info? If it is a different source, I'd like to have that source for my records too.

There is much I'd like to discuss with you, and I think it would be better via direct email rather than this message board. Please contact me so that we can share information. My email is my username at netscape.net
Thanks---Jim

Hello Wilhelm Schwanke was born Aug 14 1843 and died June 15 1923 and is burried in Reedsville West side cemetery.I have good reason to belive Anna Schwanke Janke is Wilhelms oldest sister of 10 children. Wilhelm was second youngest in family. My ggrandfather and Wilhelm were brother in laws because ggrandfathers wife was Justine Schwanke. Anna Schwanke married Jahn Jahnke Feb 14 1848. If I am not misstaken John and Anna Jahnke are buried at the West end of Cty trunk J Near Potter in Calumet Cty on the south side of road just before road that goes between Potter and Brillion. Hope this helps you I have more information and am willing to share information with you if you can help me. Leon

Hello I hope I can help you with different information that I think is correct. The Wilhelm Schwanke I know of was born Aug 14 1843 near Obodowo West Prussia. He was Married to Augusta Seehafer, daughter of Paul Seehafer and Justine [Weise] Seehafer. They married possibly in 1867 or 68 and came to Baltmore Md. June 28 1868 on a ship named the Berlin from Bremen Germany. They came on the same ship as my ggrandfather Carl Behnke and Justine Schwanke, who was Wilhelms sister,so the two men were brother in laws. The Behnke family came with 5 children. They farmed less then a half mile apart. I think it is possible Anna Elisabeth Schwanke is Wilhelms oldest sister, born Feb 14 1826 Klein Klonia Obodowo, and Married Johann Jahnke Mar 5 1848. Wilhelm Schwanke Died June 15 1923 and is buried with his wife at ST .John St James West side cemetery in Reedsville. Anna [Schwanke] Jahnke is the oldest of 10 children and Wilhelm is the second youngest in the family. There parents names are Michael Schwanke and Dorothea Kaschke. I do have more information if you are interested. Behnke

I am researching Ziebell line. Frederich Ziebell immigrated to USA, I have his father listed as Christoph Ziebell, perhaps that was one of his names, I have his wife listed as Risina Eva Schwanke- their children as Frederich, Caroline Justina, Ludwig Ferdinand, Friederich Gustav, Henriette Ulrike & Louise Ziebell, all born in Prussia 1826-1840's. Related? Name was changed to Sibell after family moved to Minnesota. I have a copy of Frederich's naturalization application in Milwaukee.
Joyce Sibell Watson

I am working on the Fredrick and Louise (BETHKE) SCHWANKE line. From oral
family histories they arrived in New York on June 12, 1864 making their way to Ripon,
Wis. I have been searching for the ship that brought them to America from Germany.
This weekend another researcher provided me with a bit more information..same date,
same arrival port, but with the name of the ship as "quebeck" and originating from
Hamburg Germany. I am assuming that this ship name was "Quebec". The family that I
am looking for during this time period is: Fredrick SCHWANKE abt 33 years old, Louise
(Bethke) SCHWANKE abt 24 years old, and two sons, Gustav abt 3 and Adolph abt 1 at
time of arrival. Can anyone point me in a direction to search?
Thanks,
Pam
Hello everyone, after completing (well as complete as they can be for now) multiple lines of both my husbands and my families and am down to the last 2 - Schwanke and Wendtland. My Schwanke begins with Hermann Schwanke of Spachtsdorf by Friedland, Frankfurt an der Oder . He was born 29 Dec 1859 and died 4/29/1946 in Lansing MI area. He married Augusta Wendtland daughter of August Wendtland and Ernesting Actenburg on 11/27/1887 in Stettin, Pomerania. She was born 10/2/1866 in Knachsee durch Neiss, Stettin, Pomerania and died 9/23/1968 in Williamston, MI
Herman and Augusta had 4 children. Emma b. 9/17/1988 in Higginsville, Lafayette County, MO
Edward August b. 2/1/1891 in Higginsville
Hermann b. 4/18/1895 Higginsville, MO
Elizabeth Augusta b. 7/14/1904 in Higginsville.
They resided in Missouri for a while then I found them again in Joliet, Will County, IL in the 1910 census.

Edward m. Lillian Schmitz in Will Co., IL in 1925 - they did not have any children.

Emma married Joseph Atsinger a widower in 1919 in Will County, IL - I believe he had children but they did not have any children together.

Herman m. Jeanette Aird date unknown and had the following children:

LeRoy, Thomas, Lois and Richard Schwanke. Herman & Jeanette made their home in Livingston Park County, MT.

I am really stuck with this family.....I know that Augusta Wendland had 2 brothers - Fred/Fritz who married a Minnie and resided in Higginsville, MO - I lose him after the 1920 census
and she had another brother - Ed Wendland who was last in the 1920 census in Higginsville, MO and he never married.

Any assistance will be appreciated..I will be happy to share what I have.
I am replying to a very old message on the Schwanke Board, but am hoping this is still active. I'm researching Wilhelm (William) Schwanke, emmigrated to America from Prussia in 1875 (at age 40, farmer) with his wife Auguste (age 40), daughter Louise (age 9), daughter Auguste (Augusta) age 7, son Carl (age 4) and daughter Hylda (age 6 mos.). This family shows up in the 1880 census in Wisconsin. I believe my line is through the daughter, Augusta, who married John Martin Pollei and resided in Minnesota (although they've been VERY hard to find). Do you think this might be of your line somehow? Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

The 1835 marriage record was family information. I went to Salt Lake City several years ago to the Latter Day Saints Family History Center. I did find the birth record of my GGrandfather Johann in 1836 in LDS Film #0245454, Evangelical Parish Records of Zempelburg.

If you go to your local LDS Family History Center, they will order this film for you to view, and perhaps they can help you find other applicable films.

My branch of the Schwankes came from the north central part of Silesia (Schlesien). They were farmers. This was not at all an uncommon surname there. I assume your Schwankes were Lutheran?

My August arrived perhaps thirty years earlier. He came from what is now Poland, through Hamburg, to eventually Wisconsin and then Minnesota where he was established by 1870. What I am discovering is that "August" was a common name among the immigrant Schwankes. Do you know from what part of Germany your August emigrated?

Found marriage record of our Christoph Schwanke and Eva Rosina Boettcher on Mar 29, 1835 at Obodowo. Their parents were listed as Christoph Schwanke, colonist, and Christian Boettcher, colonist. Apparently Christoph Eva's parents immigrated from Germany? during their lifetimes. Seeking passenger lists for about 1852, and original location of Schwanke's and Boettchers. May I ask where you found the 1835 marriage record? I'd like to explore those records. Obodowo was the Evangelical Parish that my ancestor's death was recorded in (so I'm told...I haven't actually seen it). The former Zempelburg is now Sepólno Kraj.

Bessie ?? Schanke m. Albert F. Wheeler had One Boy & One Girl

Bessie Schwank was born likely late 1800's because she married Albert Francis Wheeler in early 1900's. Had first child, a boy say in 1918-1922, then Betty Marie March 6, 1923. It is likely all this happened in KC, Jackson County, MO. Albert F. Wheeler contracted polio in childhood; was a paraplegic who owned and operated a wholesale service station and auto repair supply warehouse. He had a delivery van built for him that he operated with just his hands. I think it was early 1960's when he died.
Kirb

I am looking for any information on Wilhelm (William) Schwanke, emmigrated to America from Prussia in 1875 (at age 40, farmer) with his wife Auguste (age 40), daughter Louise (age 9), daughter Auguste (Augusta) age 8, son Carl (age 4) and daughter Hylda (age 6 mos). This family shows up in the 1880 census in Wisconsin. I believe my line is through their daughter, Augusta, who married John Martin Pollei and resided in Minnesota. Any help out there?
