I am not sure, my grt grandfather was one of 13 children born in Charlottenburg Germany 1857. I know he took my grandmother back to Germany on or about 1904-05 for the family to meet her. I have a sisters name but I will have to check the records for her name. I know she(sister) and her husband had a textile shop in Berlin/Charlottenburg.

I am helping my nephew-in-law with his family research. We have just started. His grandfather was Norris William Schwarz. His great grandmother was Gladys Minnie Merkord. Norris' parents were William Christian & Hattie Unnasch Schwarz. William's parents were Frederick William & Henriette Sophia Wiethorn Schwarz. They were all in Texas. Frederick came from Germany in 1871. So you recognize any of these names? I could use some help. Thanks, Doris

I went to Penn for a Schwarz reunion they gave me many pics and none do my Father Harry Joseph Schwarz Know.

However, I have found pictures of a Phillip Schwarz born 1936 of Dec.

And i have found a pic of a Rickhard Schwarz not date of birth. His father is Fred Schwarz.

I have also found spelling of Swartz. From the reunion i went to some of the family changed their spelling and never kept in contact. Why i have not found that out.

Most of this linage is found to be from Penn. Moreover, My 3-4 Ggrandfater imigrated from Germany.

I know from working with researching family history, Mothers name some daughters after them selves and so did sisters. Fathers also have boys with names the same and is very confusing unless you have dates.

on some of the pictures i find relation to Knight,Ticky and Bell familys. On some picts it shows Schwarz and cousin Knight.

I also have some pictures of Bell born in July 1, 1953.

I have many pictures of service men and some have name Schwarz on them. Do you know if any of your Schwarz have served?

On the frnt of the box it says Schwarz Mothers Pictures. Then on tape it says ford Dilworth family, Hal Dilworth family, Dungan Mcmillian, Fred and Barkley and Johnson.

Do any of these names for familys ring a bell to you?

Eargly awiting your reply.
regards
Jo

No i do not but it dosent mean that i don't....hum that did not sound right. I have been searching for Schwarz blood line also. I have pictures with out names from a Schwarz family reunion in Penn I had been given while there.
My father Harry Joseph Schwarz does not seem to know any of them and it is a big shoe box full of pictures. I can tell you we are related to a bell family, knight are cousins of older Schwarz and have found pic with the spelling Schwartz.
Some of the elder Schwarz I have just seen for the first time in my life said that part of the family spelled last name that way. so this is confusing for me and why they spelled it differently. I can tell you for sure that my side of the family came from Germany and Penn.
There has to be more info for me to better tell you if I have any pictures of the persons in questions or if you know where they started or immigrated from. I hope this helps and let me know please. We could be on the same path.
Regards
JoLinda

I realize it's been 4 years since you posted this message but I've only just read it. Katie Haage was my great grandmother's cousin and they lived next door to each other in Lasalle when they were small children. I believe that Gotlieb (Katie's father) and Conrad were brothers. You will find them in the 1870 census in Lasalle Illinois. Katie's date of birth is listed as 1862.

If this is the same Katie, she was one of the first female doctors in the United States and I would love to know more about where she studied, practiced and any other information you may have about her life.

I too have been looking for Lathar Schwarz but it seems as though Schwarz is a very common name in Illinois and I'm not sure where they moved after they were married.

My brother tells me he saw a clipping my grandmother had saved from the newspaper regarding Katie. He seems to recall that she had lived to approximately 104 years old. Amazing!

Franz Johann Schwarz

I am looking for infromation about Franz Johann Schwarz. I belive he is from Rohrbach Germany. He immigrated to the US in 1883 arriving at the port of Baltimore on April 17, 1883. He declared his intention to naturalize on April 29, 1884 and became a citizen on October 1, 1894 in Logansport, Cass, Indiana.
He married Emma Wilhemena Krieg (b. March 7 1868 Huntington county, Indiana) on August 16th 1888 and had five children. Four boys: Frank John, George Rudolph, John Jacob, and Carl George. One daughter, Elizabeth Barbara.
I beleive he came over from Germany with a relative (possibly his brother) named Peter who was born about 1852. Peter died in 1890 prior to becoming a US citizen.
I have searched high and low for information about Franz's past and have come up with very little. He is my great-grandfather and I would like to find out where in Germany he came from exactly and who his ancestors were. Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Don Schwarz

hello,
I found something that may help if you know some history on Henry (Heinrich) Schwarz.

First it talks about my GG-Gmother Mary Margaret Frick who married Henry Schwarz.

Mary is found in the 1880 US Census on a farm in South Huntington Westmoreland County, Penn. Her father was Daniel Frick B:1818 in Penn. His name is spelled Danniel in that census and her mother was Annie C. Frick B: 1830 also in Penn.

Mary had an older sister Priscilla born in Penn 1855. She had a younger sister Nancy L.(?) who 1868 Penn.

At the time of the 1889 Census, Henry Schwarz is living with the Frick family and working as a hired hand. He is listed as being 22yrs at the time (born in 1858 Germany). From the appearances, he was likly meant to marry Priscilla, but things must not haveworked out that way obviously.

According to the 1870 Census, Mary also had an older brother, David, who was born in 1847 Penn.

In the 1900 US Census Henry B: Aug 1855, and Mary Dec 1865 Swartz listed in Perry, Fayette County, Pa, with children Daniel June 1881, Harry June 1883, Jacob jan 1886, Annie Feb 1888 and Thomas sep 1890. The coupe stated the had been married for 20yrs, and Henry stated he had immigrated to the US in 1871 (29yrs before this census) and was naturalized citizen.

This information led to finding Heinrich Schwarz arrived in New York aboard the Donau (ship) on Oct 23, 1871. He was among a group of teen-aged boys listed on that ship's passenger list. The ship had left from Bremen, Germany, probably around the 23rd of Sep 1871. Which means that my GG-Gfather came from Wittenback, Mittelfranken, Bavaria (Bayern), Germany. This is a small town northeast of Stuttgart, Hamburg Germany.

There are two scenarios to how gg-gfather came to be on the Donau headed for the US. 1 the better of the 2, involves the Prussian Wars of 1869-1872. In 1869, Prussia rose up and swiftly defeated the Austrian army in a matter of weeks. It then set out across Bavaria in an effort to reunite all the duchies of the German Empire.l Halfway through Bavaria, the Prussian Army got bogged down in house to house fighting. They ended up re-groupingand goin to the North, then Westward into what is now Saarland Germany. There, they drovethe French out of the Saarland area, and in 1871, they signed the treaty known as the Peace of Paris in November 1871. Because many parents did not want their young sons be inscripted into the army - neither the Bavarian army nor the Prussian army - they sent them to live with relatives in the US.
2 scenario - involves the same causal forces, but it could have been that Heinrich's father was a soldier, and was killed in the fighting with Prussians. His mother would not have been able to care for him, or may have been killed or died herself, and thus he was evvectively orphanedl. Many war orphans were rounded up and brought to the US for what was problably their best chance at survival.

Hope this helps. smiles
Jo

I a person contact me with the Henry name saying it is Hinrich? and the story of the war. My family did come from Germany. I went to a family reunion in Pnn. in 2007 and heard over a conversation that part of our family for what ever reason changed last name to Schwartz or swartz and have not associated with my side for many a year. I will keep looking at my files and get back to you. My Henry was born in 1855 and married Mary Margaret Frick in Pa. Henry died May 14, 1907 Schttdale, Pa. He was killed in a coal mine.
The children for Henry are:

Jacob Jan 27, 1886
Daniel Sept 24, 1889
Charles L. Sept 11, 1890
Annie looks like 1991
Harry June 1, 1893

I have plenty more info but not at my finger tips right this moment.
Wilhelm Schwarz of Westfalen (Westphalia), Germany

I am looking for ancestors / information on my Schwarz relations.

My Grandfather: Wilhelm (William) Ferdinand Schwarz born Hamm, Westfalen 1901 and emigrated to Canada 1928. He had 2 sisters, Marta, who married into a Meyer family and Elisabeth, who I beleive was a spinster and a Nazi.

Their father, Wilhelm Schwarz, was the adminstrative manager of United Steel Works ( Vereinigte Stahlwerke
). He was a founder of the German Democratic Pary ( DDP ) and a founder of the Weimar Republic. He was living in Siegen, Westfalen in 1928. He may have been murdered by the Nazi's for his political views. This was reported in a WW2 interview of my grandfather about his family by Canadian Army Personnel Selection Officer.
