Hi Robyn, was so pleased to get your message. Am fascinated by Dorothea as my family knew nothing about her. We didn't know she had been transported and were told she'd died and left my great great great grandfather an orphan. I found her in her sons baptism record at the london metropolitan archives and once I knew her name found out more.
She had two sons from her marriage to John Fenn, called John fenn and Samuel william fenn. the latter was my 3xgreat grandfather, John died as a child.
One of my relatives has given me a photo of a portrait of Dorothea if you are interested. She lead a very interesting life before her transportation. Perhaps we could communicate by email so i can give you more information.my email is debora.carter@btinternet.com

It states that he was employed at the Bollman Hat Factory. There is also a picture of this young man. Please contact me if interested in this article.

Hi, I have just found your post and I am also looking for information on Dorothea fenn. I knew she went to Austrailia from London, England and married james bradley, but I know her as Fenn. She was possibly a widow as she had a child in England and gave the name of the father as John Fenn deceased, but have found no marriage record yet. I would love to know where the Roberts comes into it, is it perhaps her maiden name? Do you know exactly where she was born? Have some info if we have the same Dorothea. Regards debora

Alma Schweitzer, born 1892, St Paul MN

Seek info on whom Alma's parents were and what happened to her. According to the 1900 census her father was Fred Schweitzer (1862-1937). According to the 1910 census, Fred was not her father but her uncle and she was a daughter, possible illegitimate, of either Fred's sister Louise Schweitzer or his sister Emma Schweitzer. The last trace I have of Alma is the 1910 census on which is 18 and living with Fred and Louise.

Fred, Louise and Emma were children of Crescentia and/or Theresa Hutter who married Ulrich Schweitzer in St Paul MN in 1859. Ulrich died in 1870 in St Paul. Crescentia and/or
Theresa died in St Paul between 1881 and 1885.

All I know is that my grandfather moved to North Dakota from Bessarabia around 1907 when he was 16. His name was John Jacob Schweitzer. He came over with his parents Jacob Schweitzer and Magdalena Wagner Schweitzer. His brothers Gottfried and William(?) and his sister Emily also came over at that time. His older sister Rose stayed because she was married to a man with the last name Rosenberg. William died in a farming accident at approximately 16. Gottfried married twice and had approximately 12 children. I do remember meeting his son Rheinhold (we called Rheinie) from Idaho. Emily ended up marrying into the Leno family. My grandfather married Otillia Rebhagen and had 9 children: Alice (Moos), Hilma (Morris), Violena (Moos), Selma (Dasher), Harold, Marcella (Schultz), Matilda (Kurtz), Cecelia (Pappas), and Walter.

I know of a John,George and Henry Switzer that were born in Speyer,France/Germany[France due to Napolean but was Germany. I know it is really hard because they all had children within years of each other and then each one and a henry ,john and george and all of them were born a year apart so it's hard to tell who's child is whos' because they one John was born in 1827 and another in 1828. I have Great-Grandfather who was William Henry Switzer born in illinois but moved to Iowa my Grandfather Ancil E. Switzer was born there and moved back to illinois. All I know is that most of them worked for the Railroad so you can try the Railroad pension board and also I noticed some land plats in ohio might help . i can not recall when they came over. I hope this is the same schweitzer/switzer[they did change their name] that you are looking for

I have a Jacob Schweitzer/Sweitzer born ca. 1831-34 in Pa. He is listed in Penn Twp., Osborn Co., Ks. in 1875, according to the births of his children, all born in Pa., the family came to Ks. in 1872. He is found there until 1910 when his wife Rebecca, age 79, born in Pa. is head of the household so his death was prior to that date. Does anyone know who the father of this Jacob Schweitzer was? I think he is possibly a George Schweitzer of Southampton Twp., Somerset Co., Pa. Any info. to prove this, or show he is not of Somerset Co., will be appreciated. Thank you.

Big Discount Swisher, Switzer, Sweitzer, and Schweitzer DNA Project
I am the Swisher/Switzer/Schweitzer etc. Surname DNA Project Administrator (volunteer) and a Switzer and Swisher Family Descendent. I receive no compensation from any DNA company.

Here is the link for the Schweitzer, Switzer & Swisher DNA Project in which I have the discounts available:

https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspxcode=Q77790&a...

Direct line male DNA 37 marker tests are knocked down from $249 to $119 among all of their many other DNA tests. This 37 marker test is the optimal test, best results for your money to use for genealogical connections. The FTDNA discount ends on Aug 31, 11:59 pm. FTDNA's discounts ususallu are $15-30 dollars. This is unique opportunaity as it seesm that tehre is a dscount war between teh companies at this time. We may not see these big discounts again or for a long time

There are several companies that also announced discounts earlier. DNa ancestry has a half price temporary discount only for ancestry.com subscribers for the only three tests it offers.

I recommend the mtDNA that measures HVR1 AND HVR2 for female line testing females of direct female lines. A male can test for both his mother's DNA which reflects, her mother's and her mother's mother on up the line. I recommend the 37-44 marker YDNA test for males ( The fewer the markers, the less reliable it is to use for genealogical purposes and the higher level tests are overkill unless you have a good genealogy going back several hundred years and you are looking to do some special lineage comparisons.

One can always upgrade later though it is more expensive to do in steps. Also FamilyTreeDNA usually has a Holiday discount Program but the discount is about half of this one. So you can prepare for a discount as a Christmas Present.

DNA is an effective tool for family research for locating unknown lines and earlier places of origin. Both male and female DNA can be effective in determining relatedness between family trees.

Several companies are offering discoutns right now some end Aug 31. The best Discounts are Ancestry.com for present Ancestry subscribers only and FTDNA is offering an unprecedented discount and multiple tests for the price of one. The discounts for male DNA testing have never been this large. If one tests with FTDNA, their results will be in the largest company database for best possibility of present and future matches. The results from this company can be manually entered into the new but very much smaller DNA database at DNA Ancestry ( Ancestry.com ).

Other companies have big discounts as well but most companies don't allow people to enter their samples of other companies into their database. So it would be wiser to do samples in one company who doesn't allow manual entry and then manually enter it into the companies that allow that.

If you have any general questions and not interested in ordering a sample with this promotion. Please email a week after the promotion ends on Aug 31 I will be tied up recruiting test for all my surnames and suspected distant related cousins.

Thanks

Paul Pettit

Anthony Schweitzer

Looking for any information on Anthony Schweitzer (changed later to Sweitzer then to Switzer) born in Germany 1850, immigrated to America in 1863 at 13 years of age. Father's name was William Schweitzer. Anthony was married to Mary Jane Painter from Robertson County, Kentucky. He was a shoe cobbler. They later lived in Lewis County, Kentucky. I have a picture where they were once in New York, because it was taken at Coney Island. Any help would be appreciated. polleyrobin@hotmail.com

Re: Matthew A. Schweitzer of Pittsburgh, PA

Hi, Bob,

Is it Matthew who was born in 1887? I am descended from Nicholas Schweitzer, who had a brother named Mathias. I believe Mathias had a son named Matthew. They were in the Pittsburgh area. Please let me know if you have any more details and I'll check my documents for any clues.
