Looking for pictures of Scites family members

Hi all,
The book is coming along nicely and I am shooting for having it done by Memorial Day 2010.
In order to make it the best it can be, I am looking for pictures of all Scites and related family members for the first five generations.
you can email me directly at scottielu at hotmail.com. I would be happy to send along what I have on your family.
Below is an example of one of the biographies for the book.

18. Christopher Adam Scites was born 4 January 1841. He was named for his grandfather, which was an old German family name. Also in the German tradition, he generally went by his middle name, Adam. After growing up in what would be Lincoln County, WV. Adam left West Virginia. In June 1860, Adam was living near Florissant, St. Louis County, MO. He was a farmhand working for Matthias V. Stiegers. M.V. was a prominent farmer, dairyman, and distiller from Maryland, who had moved to St. Louis with his family. By 1864, Adam was back in West Virginia and had joined his Scites and Porter uncles and cousins in Company “G”, 3rd West Virginia Cavalry (see Chapter 9). Following the war, Adam married Julia Ann Bills on 3 January 1867 in Cabell County, WV. Julia Ann was born 25 September 1845 in Wood County, Virginia (West Virginia). She was the daughter of Alfred Newton and Margaret Tate (Taitt) Bills. They lived their lives on Two Mile creek. There is a source that states they did live off of Four Mile for a while. Christopher Adam was a farmer and like the rest of his family a large man, reportedly to be six and half feet tall. Julia Ann was a local midwife and surely helped deliver many of the babies in the Two Mile area. Adam and Julia owned many acres in the Two Mile area. In addition to their homestead, they built a log cabin that would serve as both the community school and the local church. The cabin would stand and was used well into the twentieth century. Julia Ann died 19 April 1911. Christopher died December 1921, while living with his nephew Doliver in Two Mile. The story goes that they had to take the windows out of the house to get his coffin off out because he was such a large man. The couple are buried at the Scites Cemetery, Two Mile.

The couple had nine children, six of which survived.
71. Mollie
72. Susan
73. William
Shelly
Millard
74. Ginevra
75. Genora
Henry
76. John

Terri,
Christopher Adam married Sarah Peyton Barnhardt in 1821.
His son Michael Christopher (son of CA Seiz and Catharina Ruof) married Elizabeth Peyton, who was born in 1825. I don't have it in front of me but I think Elizabeth was Sarah's niece. Catharina Rouf died during or right after the family landed in America.
Hope this helps
Scott
The book is basically at a stand still until I finish my Ph.d, which should be this summer so I am hoping by next summer I can have something ready...it will take another trip to West Virginia but I am pretty close on a lot of families.

I will email you directly with some of the information I have.
Scott

I have her married to Christoph Adam Scites and Catherine Rouf's son Michael Christoper Scites. Is this right???

I want to encourage any Scites family members from the West Virginia Scites families to consider participating or encouraging a male Scites to participate in the DNA project.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see how our Scites family possibly relates to other families both in Germany as well as seeing if we are related to other Seiz, Sites, Sides, Scites families that came to America.

-Scott Lucas
Passport issued 5 October 1819 to Christoph Adam Seiz of Aszlinger in the kingdom of Wurttenberg, Germany. He home was located in South Central Germany about 1-1/2 miles from Switzerland. He landed in New Orleans in 20Jan. 1820 along with his wife, Catherine Rouf, Michael Christopher Seiz, John Seiz, Catherine Seiz & Adolpheus Seiz. How they traveled up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to Va. (W.Va.) has not been established yet. They should appear in the 1820 Census along the route. When Christoph left Germany, he was 37 years old, had green eyes, light brown hair, 1 meter, 75-80 cen. (5"10") tall and had lost his teeth, both top and bottom. He had a long face, healthy complexion, soft cheek, proportionate mouth and straight legs. His children, Michael Christ. was 8 yrs. old, John was 7 years old, Catherine was 3 yrs old, Adolphos 3 months old. He settled on 40 acres of land on nine mile creek, Cabell Co., Va. (Lincoln Co., W.Va.) to this he added 63 more acres. His signature on his passport, and later his son becoming a school teacher, would indicate that he was an educated man. His wife, Catherine Rouf must have died shortly after arriving here in America. He later married Sarah Peyton and had additional children. During those early years, his name changed from Seiz, to Seitz, to Cites, to Sites and finally Scites. Received land grants for his property from Virginia.

Hi Kathy,
I just saw your message written a year ago on the Scites Board. I'm from Lincoln County and lived in West Hamlin for several years.

My GGGrandfather's name is Elisha Adkins ( d. 1880) who married Louisa McComas. They lived around Midkiff, WV. Their children were Sarah, Elizabeth, and William (b.1853). I'm trying to find Elisha's father. Just today, someone emailed that they thought Elisha was the son of America Scites. I checked the dates in Ronnie Adkins book and found them to be wrong for a match.

But my Mother's family is connected to Christopher Scites in some way. Do you know how? I appreciate any help you can give me and I'll share what info I have with you.
Jane

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you, but yes, I am very much interested in the Scites Family Tree. We travel to WV and every so often we go to America's grave and I do wonder about her history. My mother has a picture of America when she was young, and amazingly enough my mother looks so much like her (or at least looked like her when she was young). You can reach me at kaseead@aol.com or kaseead@fuse.net.
I'm sorry Clifton, but your information on Archibald Adkins and America Scites, isn't completely correct. Those are not their children except for Elisha Adkins who married Julia Ann Bills. I know because Archibald was my gggrandfather and I remember staying with my greatgrandpa Elisha. I do have a list of America Scites's children if you would like. Kathy Corvin
