nice bit of work. what an odd place to find irish relatives from my french grandmothers side!
this is very interesting story. Andrew and charlotte were living together for a while and had 3 kids "andrew, joseph and charlotte" before the marriage."les epoux ont eu trois enfants avant leur mariage"
charlotte had been married to michel bartelot who was much older than her. while he was dying in hospital andrew and charlotte started a family but got married soon after the old guy died.
charlotte first married in 1 july 1743 at mission of st. laurent.
"michel bertolet age de 45 ans veuve (widower) de francois boucher ... et charlotte age de dix huit (18)"
charlotte dies and Andrew goes on to wed louise truchon.
and the story never ends
Hi,

Unfortunately, not for the moment being. There is a "rumour" from family papers that they were in Scotland not long before that moment, no dates.

On another search on my maternal grandmother who is Scottish, there seems to be lots of back and forth between Scotland and Ireland, so that "rumour" could be founded.

Will keep on digging.

Take care,

Marc

It is very nice to hear from you - no, it is not too late. Since my original posting, I had seen that census online. I wonder if your wife has ever gotten beyond this couple in her research.

Thanks for your posting!

Hi,

Hope this doesn't come too late to help.

John Scot is my wife's paternal GGP as well.

I have found a link to the 1749 Ireland census for Sligo Town, Diocese of Elphin, Ireland.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlsli/census410.html

John Scott, painter, protestant with 1 child >14; p.397.

John Scot, cotter, catholic, with 1 child >14 and 1 <14; p.410. This should be the right one. Once established in the St Lawrence Valley, they were farmers all the way to the last generation.

Hope this helps,

Marc

Presbyterian Minister Scot in Knox Co IN, daughter m. S.R. Alexander

Samuel R. Alexander's first wife was Nancy Scot I think of Vincennes, daughter of the Scot who was a Pres. minister there. S.R. Alexander's second wife was a Dorcas Thompson Smith who may be the sister of the Andrew Thompson I seek. They are both possibly the children of Ephraim and Margaret Thompson who were early settlers in Daviess County, IN.

In 1850 Andrew Thompson married Harriet Degan of Wabash County, IL; she was daughter of Henry and Jane Lauvellette Degan both of Vincennes, In. They had two children: Henry R. b 1852, and Laura Ann, b 1854. They both disappear by the 1860 census.

In the 1860 census, Andrew Thompson's daughter, Laura, b 1854, is living in Wabash Co, IL with her mother's parents, Henry and Jane Degan. Her older brother Henry R. Thompson, b 1852,is not with her. There is however a Henry R. Thompson age 9, living with Samuel R. Alexander and his wife Dorcas Alexander, b 1811, in Knox County, IN. There is also a young Mayhall girl who may have been Susan Mayhall's sister? The connection here is with Gibson Co, IN, where a John R. Thompson is married to a Susan Mayhall.

Dorcas Alexander's maiden name was Thompson, then she married Minard Smith, and after being widowed, married Samuel R. Alexander, widowed son in law of Rev Scott of the Presb. church. Samuel Alexander became the Pres Church minister after Scott in Knox Co, Vincennes.

Dorcas was born in S.C. and then lived in Daviess Co with Minard Smith, then Knox Co with Samuel Alexander where we find her in 1860. In the 1850 census is a John Thompson, b 1801 also in SC; living with him is his mother Margaret, b Maryland, 1783. John has a son named Ephraim. This Ephraim as a young man, goes on to CA to work on gold mines and his letters have been preserved. He eventually returns to Daviess Co and marries Eliza someone, I think the girl he left behind, and they have one child, Martha (Mattie) before Eliza dies. By 1870 Ephraim is living with his parents John and Elizabeth, with his 11 year old daughter in Washington, Daviess Co, IN. Ephraim, b 1834, becomes a successful merchant in Washington. His daughter Mattie marries a J.C. Lavelle, deputy auditor of Daviess Co, eloping against her father's wishes, but she is 20 or so then, per the Daveiss Co Democrat newspaper.

Now I think that Margaret, John's mother, Ephraim's grandmother, is the widow of an Ephraim Thompson who was an early settler in Daviess County, per Goodspeed's book. Ephraim Thompson is in the 1830 census, age 50-60. His youngest male then was 10-15, who could have been my Andrew. His wife was 40-50 (Margaret would have been 47). They also have a daughter of the right age to be Dorcas. The brother John Thompson is already out of the house since he was 29. This older Ephraim Thompson was an elder of the Presb. Church in 1814 in Daviess. He was also a Daviess Co commissioner for many years. He was in Commers Fort.

So I'm seeing the link between these Ephraim Thompsons and Andrew Thompson based on Henry R. Thompson, boy same age as Andrew's son Henry R. Thompson, living with Dorcas Alexander who was a Thompson, and may have been Ephraim and Margaret Thompson's daughter, sister of John, and maybe sister of Andrew?? It's a stretch, but nothing else has worked so far...

I would appreciate any assistance or info.

SCOT, John & CREIGHTON, Mary - Sligo, Ire.

I am researching John SCOT and Mary CREIGHTON, my 7G grandparents.

I have a marriage record for their son Andrew, m. Marie Charlotte Serre dit St. Jean, 23 May 1779, Quebec. Andrew was likely born in Sligo (county? town in county? not sure), Ireland. I have seen his mother's name as:

Crichton,
Cracheten,
Creighton,
Rocheteau,
Nacheleau.

Does anyone know anything more definite about John and Mary? Thank you!

Re: John Scot in Savannah w/Oglethorpe

Albert:
Like you, I am trying to locate the county in NC that my gggf John Scott and wife Mary Elizabeth Carson came from. John was born in NC in 1800 and died in Waterloo, AL in 1884. He had a brother named William born c1804. Both of them are buried in the Waterloo area. Waterloo is just across the TN line and William lived in Wayne County for some time. It is possible that they had a brother named James and a sister named Isabella but not sure. Isabella supposedly lived at Palmyra, IL. It is plausible because some of the family traveled to Palmyra during the Civil War. I have been told by relatives now dead that there were connections in Wayne County and Williamson County. There were several Scotts in Maury County but have not been able to tie to them. I have the names of the descendents but not the names of the parents of John and William. Have not been able to find any info connecting the Waterloo Carsons to a particular Carson line. Saw your post and thought I would see if you recognize any of my information. I live in East TN. One older relative in 1975 told that the family landed in Charleston, SC and migrated up through NC and then into TN and AL.

Bill
