Benjamin Scruggs and Carrie Boynton Scruggs were my great grandparents. Benjamin died before I was born but I do remember Grandmother Carrie . I was about four when she died. Her daughter Mary Louise Scruggs Batey was my paternal grandmother. Carrie lived with her before her death. Mary Louise was my fathers mother.I do have quite a bit of info on this line.

Scroggs in Louisiana {Oakdale,Pitkin,Glenmore,etc}
Hi. My name is Ashley and I am looking for family members living and/or deceased on my mother's side of the family. Her name is Diane Scroggs-Boutwell. Her mother was Norma Faye Thompson-Scroggs {B-May 1951 or so D-May 2002} and her father was James "Ed" Edward Scroggs {B-1941 D-1996}. She {my mom} has four siblings: James "Jim", Kenneth "Peanut", Eric, and Debbie "Sissy". I am definitely having trouble finding my grandfather James's family since it seems he was adopted at some point. His "real" family name would be Parker I'm told. He had a twin brother nicknamed "Pug" whom I believe died in war. Not sure which one though. My grandmother Norma's mother was named Corrie Moss-Thompson {B-1907 D-1994} and her father was Rev Lawson Thompson {B-1905 D-?}. Norma had three other siblings: Merle, "Buddy", and Francis {whom has a mental retardation, unfortunately}. I haven't been able to find my great-grandparents's parents or any of their family so if anyone has any info to help please do give me a shout. If anyone has ANY info on any of these families: Scroggs, Thompson, or Moss, please do let me know. I believe most of the Scroggs {possibly Parker} family were from Pitkin, Glenmore, Oakdale area. The Thompson's and Moss's I really don't know. So please help. LOL! If you do have info though, please email me at nikkinchad012904@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!!
Does anyone out there know if someone has further delineated the lines described by MS Dunkin Scruggs in her Scruggs book published in 1912???

I am trying to connect my Stephen Scruggs Born in TN about 1824 to possibly the Drury or Finch lines.

Stephen named his own children Edward, JOhn, James, Mary ( Molly), Margaret, Joseph, Stephen A., and Gable or Gabriel Cammie. These names are very similar to the names of Edward Scruggs son of Drury. Also to the names of the children of John Scruggs son of Drury.

Thanks Franklin for the information on John A. Scroggs' parents. I located a hard copy of an 1850 Cherokee County N.C. federal census and low and behold, there was Joseph's family with at least one of John's brothers that I am familiar; Newton M. Scroggs. I know where he, his wife and one daughter and son are buried. Newt and his family are pictured in a local town history book. Your information helped to clear up a couple of things about my gg grandfather and Newt. I have also found some information that Joseph was the son of a David Scroggs. Can you tell me if this is true or not and how was my gg grandfather related to the three Scotsmen who were the first of their clan to reach the United States. Thanks again for you help.

She actually died on April
27, 2004. I called the San Diego Union Tribune
and the correct obituary was listed in the May
4, 2004 paper.

The oldest child was born in 1808, so the marriage was , probably, in about 1805 - I think maybe in Beaver County.

Does anyone show a marriage between a SCROGGS and an ANDERSON in about 1800?
Thanks

Rollin
I have had difficulty locating him, sometime listed as Scruggs, sometimes as Scroggs. Any help would be appreciated.

Ben,
Just starting to research the Scroggs branch of our family tree. There was an Alexander Scroggs from Cumberland Co.,
PA who was my great grandfather. You talked about 3 brothers from Scotland. I think that my great grandfather may
be the grandson of one of the brothers (Alexander). Aaron Scroggs would be his father. Would be interested to know if
you have any information about the original Alexander Scroggs to know if he had a son named Aaron. If so, I would like to start a dialogue with you to share information. Thanks alot.

Bob Wermuth

I am very interested in any evidence concerning Alfred's father. John seems to be the consensuses of opinion but I believe that David is also a contender as he was at the right place at the right time (Haywood County N.C. 1810 Census).
I am a descendent of Jeremiah Scroggs, AmRev vet from Iredell Cty, NC through his daughter Cynthia, wife of John Copeland. The young couple walked from NC to Ohio in 1808 and their dau Judith Rawson Copeland married my paternal g grandfather John W. Caldwell. My father's mother Margaret Caldwell marriewd Benjamin Monroe Faler and died in Camas, Washington in 1924. This is only a clip of the family but the Scroggs were supposed to have gone to NC from Cumberland or Westmoreland County, Pa before the Revolution. Best personal wishes from perhaps a cousin,Carleton Hugh Faler, SaratogaFarms@aol,com

Thank you for your message on my ancestor, John Scroggs. We knew about the family being in Cumberland Co., PA but not the place or DOB.I've visited Statesville, NC as recently as last August and found a "Scroggs Flower Shop" but no Scroggs. There is a Scroggs Cemetery in the area but so far I haven't located it. Thanks again.Carleton H. Faler

One of Jeremiah's children was Cynthia Scroggs, married to John Copeland, migrated to Ohio 1807/08. For some reason, most records fail to include Cynthia. Does anyone know more of her record> Thanks too to Tim Irwin for posting information re John Scroggs.
